Alalam walaikum or Good morning?
By engteacher •
I'm confused of how to greet Qataries, specially any muslim, which one is the most suitble greeting? Being a non-muslim Sometimes i feel Asalam walikum is some kind of a fake greeting from my side, but i wonder do they really expect that greeting from every body, or else do they upset with terms like good morning/a,noon? how do you guys feel of that?
marhabtain means 'two hellos'
So you are giving more back.

They use it in Saudi Arabia too. The marhaba/Marhatain greetings.
I was told by a strict Wahhabi when I came some 12 years ago that that greeting, in arabic is plural, and reserved for Muslims. Salaam Aleyk (singular) peace to you is more appropriate. However in the intervening years things have become a lot more tolerant. If unsure say Salaam (peace) or Marhaba.
Salam Alaikum, good morning, marhaba... use any one u want, if u say something arabic, they would get friendly with u. Think of it this way, if an arab goes to states and says salam alaikum, how do u think people will respond? there is a chance that people might think that he's a terrorist lol, even though he said "peace be upon you" which is pretty weird lol.

Dear Friend,
The correct sentence is "Assalam Alaikum". It is a arabic word which means in english
" May allah's peace and blessings be upon you".
I appreciate your concirn about saying it correctly. If you have any other questions about islam, than you can visit FANAR Organisation which is in souq area or you may call me at 5856874, insha allah i will try to get you answers. My name is mohammed younus.
[Mode note: Restrain from such language on public forum]
There is verse in Quran, which obligates to respond on Assalam Alaikum at least the same way.
There is a link.
Assalam O Alikum was taught in Muslim religion 'Islam'.
Because Islam is the religion of Peace and respect to everyone. you know the meanings of Assalam O Alikum and Wa Alikum Assalam . When Muslim meets they pray for each other .
Peace/Salam ,is for all and everyone. Qataris will surely appreciate you taking the trouble to use their language and way of greeting.
Salam
I learned something from your comments! I feel there's no any direct connection between this term and the relegion Muslim, so this is a term that can be used by anybody !
it means peace on you and he will reply(wa alikum alsalam)means peace on you to.
i think peace is first think you think about when you deal with strenger.
you feel fake but its not.
its the peacful way to say (the cold) hi.
respict.
Someone may be upset if they "salam" you and you don't "salam" them back.

Greeting: As Salaam Alaikum - Peace be on you
Reply : Wa Alaikum As Salaam - Peace be on you too
Greeting: Sabahal Khair - Good morning
Reply : Sabahan-Noor - Very Bright Morning
You can always greet people saying Hi, Hello in case of having difficulty to pronounce arabic words.
Visit FANAR, you'll get some good info on Islam as well as on Arabic.
going by what I've been taught...salam allykum and the response is basically saying peace be upon you...and upon you too. Its the polite and acceptable greeting in Arabic. If you wish to say good morning, only to closer friends, its sabar al hair..and sabar al noor. Try not to think along english comparisons as you are speaking another language and just respect that language for itself. Good luck with the learning and apologies to anyone if I've gotten this wrong
smile lots laugh more
This is a good way to speak arabic You greet them Salam and they will answer and you say Ahlan wa Sahlan. This is a way to say hello because in Arabic it is custom to say hello two or three times..........
Need any help call me
Cynthia
what does it mean?(Marhabtain)
Assalam Alaikom is the most common greetings for everyone.
"There's nothing we can do to change the past, if it teaches you a lesson profit from it then, forget it."
