American double standards
NEW DELHI: The US may be fighting shy of designating Pakistan as a state sponsoring terror but it has no dearth of information linking Islamabad with outfits which are not only hostile to Washington's interest but have also been creating trouble in India.
Interrogation reports of Pakistani detainees at Guantanamo Bay, disclosed by WikiLeaks, clearly talk about Pakistani spy agency's ISI support to many terror outfits like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM) and Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami (HuJI), so much so that the US department of defence put them under a special category of terror groups that gets state support.
US soft-peddling on these outfits despite knowing their clear anti-India agenda had always raised questions with Indian security and intelligence agencies. Though officials here give Americans the benefit of doubt due to their strategic reason to engage with ISI despite knowing the Pakistani spy agency's true colours, it pained Indian agencies, specifically over US failure to share these details with India.
An official said, "Whatever sharing of information we see on the ground now is the post-26/11 phenomena. Earlier, it was few and far between making it almost negligible."
Frenchie, Mon Cher,Rain and Hail storm!!!!And make that double agreement,....For your above post!!!
Polka--we're in agreement.
Hello--No double standard on the part of America, because it's standard is to look after its own interests. Don't look to America in expectation of any sort of justice.
It is simple. If India allows any thrid party for mediation in Kashmir Issue, that means India is ready to compromise. India is not for the compromise....whether it is right or wrong at this stage is a differnt issue.
@fRENCHIEMAN "US-Indian relations will be more important in the long term than US-Pakistan relations for reasons of the economy. Pakistan is an ally of convenience that will become less important in the next few years, as the US pulls out of Afghanistan."
Exactly, and that is why the US will remain silent now when the mouse squeaks in the hope of catching The Tiger!
I was responding to the OP.
I see your point, Polkadots, but I also think that US-Indian relations will be more important in the long term than US-Pakistan relations for reasons of the economy. Pakistan is an ally of convenience that will become less important in the next few years, as the US pulls out of Afghanistan.
Correction Frenchieman, It is not "now" the time for India to sort out it's own problems but it has "always been the time" for India to sort out it's own problems. Time and again India has rejected all "suggestions" from the US to intervene in it's Kashmir issue among others, so much so that US does not have any hand in Indian policies except bilateral trade, why even a desperate plea for help by the US to send in Indian troops to Iraq, help in the war on terror was rejected by the then Indian Govt.
My earlier post was not complaining US not intervening in India's internal affairs[ who needs them any ways!] but a pointer on the bigger picture of their silence on the OBL hideout.
I think America should stop bothering for other countries (as they seem to make it out) or creating problems in other countries of their own making (or through other countries) and mind their own business until and unless called for intervention by any country. And for sure STOP LYING to take control of other countries.
I think it is time for India to sort out its own problems. It does not need American intervention.
I've been scanning the international news section to see the US reaction after finding OBL a neighbor of a senior Pakistani Intelligence officer, to date US has not come up with any ,....Looks like they really don't care if the Pak govt is or is not funding the terrorists , as long as they keep fighting with India, there by cause some dent in India's progress towards becoming a superpower."If you can't stop 'em at least stall 'em" seems to be the driving force behind US -Pak relations and the silence on the OBL issue highlights the US stand- not regarding Pak but regarding Ind.
