anyone been to Iran
By ESL Teacher •
Hi,
I know it seems odd but, my husband and I would really like to check out Iran one of these days...it's so close too.
We know some people who have gone and they loved it, they went to Tehran and the Caspean Sea. So anyone else checked it out. Where did you stay? How were the hotels? How much is a plane ticket from here? any details are great.
thanksÂ
Women in Iran are required to wear an ankle length coat on top of their clothes, called a manto.
Being a foreigner you will be able to get away with the fringe of your hair showing but the head-scarf is a must.
You'd be surprised how fashionable Iranian women look and if you drive out to the suburbs of Tehran you can occasionally see women in their front yards or gardens in modern dress with their hair uncovered.
If the dress is covering the full body including arms one can get away with a bit of head cover...that would be fine in Tehran...I am not sure about other places like Eshfahan..Not been to such places....I guess its better to be safe than sorry in such situation...
tg, are you sure she is not allowed to not wear Abaya? I don't think so.
Teacher you better check it out :-)
I know Emirates fly there. Try calling them.
I checked on Qatar Airways and couldn't find a fight to Tehran. What would be a good deal on a ticket there?
wow, thanks for the info, didn't expect so much so soon. all very useful.
take good care.
Pinay29,
You will probably get more response (or maybe your questions are already answered) on the following thread.

Hi, i'm a filipina being offered by a local(from philippines) agency a job as retail manager in qatar...would really appreciate your help and tips on salary ranges for this line of work and what benefits to expect having employment in this country.
Thanks' and God Bless you all
We have a friend who has recently cycled through Iran (en route from Turkey to Thailand via Iran, China and lots of other countries.
He found the Iranians very hospitable and apart from the police following him for half a day before checking his papers, had a great time and was very impressed. He has been stopping in low cost accommodation if a camp site wasn't available.
If you want to check out his opinions on some of the countries he passed through his blogg address is:
www.roddo.net. The month for Iran was April I believe and up to 23rd July he had cycled 9,267k
Dont forget your Abaya....You are not allowed to move out in Iran without being covered....
Expect things to move slow right from Immigration...
The hotels in Tehran are in poor condition and most haven't been renovated since the fall of the Shah. Service is poor, the food, especially the kebabs are good.
Tehran is good for shopping but not much else. You could go to the surrounding areas of the capital to sit in nature and have a mix of tea, nuts and dried fruits as many Iranians do.
Isfahan is beautiful, the architecture amazing. There's a magical hotel there, the Hotel Abbasi with all its walls and ceilings carved and decorated in Persian style. It's like going back in time. Unfortunately so is service in most of the country.
If you're not looking for a Leading Hotels of the World experience and are prepared to endure and explore it'll be an enjoyable experience.
Haggle hard at the bazaars!
