Aramex Shop & Ship & Customs

All my current items from the UK are showing the following status:-

"Shop&Ship Update Shipment is delayed due to pending customs clearance."

Are you experiencing the same status update?

Is Ramadan bringing S&S to a halt with customs sitting on everything?

I am not blaming Aramex for this, and I haven't even bothered to contact them about it because it's beyond their control. I am just curious to know how big a problem this is by asking if others are affected.

It could have been in the same larger shipment of a number of people's packages, and their has something suspicious. That's what happened to me.

Mine were books and DVDs - no electronics, no foodstuffs.

marycatherine--was there something suspicious in the package or just the routine backlog?

Last year I had a package sit in customs for almost a month--nothing wrong with what I received, but it was in the same larger bag/box with a number of other packages (one of which had some questionable items). Apparently Aramex groups the packages into one larger package rather than sending each individually.

You are right. It is because of ramadan. And you know the system here in QATAR. Its all manual. still the old method. This is the only country which is still using manual methods in the whole of GCC. Once the new port opens then things will be faster. However you should be tough with these clearing people and make them understand the urgency.

I don't consider 21+ day delay to be a few days, especially as this is after the package has arrived in Qatar.

I've had the same problem. It just adds a few days to the wait.

i am working in aramex in S&S. this problem is due to the ramadan. in customs they only clear food items first and then the other shipments so that's why it get's delay.

always UK shipments are much faster then US.

My last shipment was held in customs for nearly 3 weeks in June (about 6 weeks before Ramadan). As mine were books and non-medical or food related that had nothing to do with the delay.

Someone suggested that (a) the inspector (as in only one) was on holiday or that (b) a new competitor with more wasta was able to delay the shipment.

I don't believe either. But it was very frustrating waiting for it to be cleared when it normally takes about 5 - 10 days from the time I order for it to be available to be picked up.

Depends on what the product is. If it is medical / health / fitness supplement related item, they generally send it to the Ministry of Health that is in the HMC compound and you'll need to collect it from there. Unsure about other products.

I have only had it once before a couple of months ago

But they were only held for one day and the next day they were ready for pickup

it means an additional of 3 to 4 days of waiting before you get your hands on your items. Just have to get used to it.
