Are you connected 24/7?

technology!!! Pictures, Images and Photos

Do we really need to be connected all the time? ?? Before the use of email and mobiles… we were happy to be fairly unconnected maybe few decades back many people didn’t even have landlines at home. Now we keep our mobile phones on all the time and check them regularly for sms or missed calls. For many of us, logging on to see if we’ve received emails/private messages can be an almost obsessive ritual. Over the last two decades we’ve become a society that’s addicted to being in touch and always available.

For many of us, our entire social lives revolve around phones… instant messaging and social networking. ..we spend a lot of time talking and texting on the phone, and checking sites and more on our computers, keeping up with friends from all over the globe. Its true that phones with internet ..3G etc are extremely popular these days, but still we all love the larger multimedia facilities of our computers, too. Older generation is a still bit bemused about the need for permanent connectivity.

The fact is that our lives would keep going on well without it, and the work would still all be done. But as the speed of life has increased …so has the urgency about things.. Do you think we are victims of Technology?

Can you by choice….pass a day without Mobile /land phones…internet etc? Rather how important is it for you to be connected 24/7?

Yeah...one can also make voip calls, log on to internet, check your emails, log on to Qatarliving or other websites all through mobiles...

I was planning to buy a netbook to use as GPS but then decided my N95 fulfills my GPS needs. Netbook would be usefull for me as GPS .....if I was a passenger and not a driver.

I am connected 24/7 through ma cell. Being an expat and away from Old parents back home, it a BIG relief.

Had few days n Hongkong last year without ma cell. Qtel promised the roaming is on and it was not working when I landed there. I was never at peace. Had to look for public booths every now and then. :(

Time has come to move from PCs to Mobiles...

The problem the mobile smart phone have are:

1. Weaker processor.

2. Weaker Software (because of the processor)

3. Small screens.

4. No keyboard (typing/texting is a pain on mobile)

1 and 2 would be solved in about 3-5 years time.

No. 3 can be solved if all have flat screen (home, Office, Car for navigation) and the mobile has a HDMI connector. When the processor becomes powerful HDMI will be a standard option.

There is always the option of blue tooth keyboard even today.

So in 5 yrs time people will be using mobile to connect to a PC Monitor and the whole 'desktop thingy' becomes obsolete.

Right now I connect my mobile to my tv to watch IPL cricket through Moziac MOB so more than one person can watch the action....though the images become little pixleated on bigger screen....its just an option.

Not with the same person Brite. All my realtives are based in different time zones, like in India, Australia, US, England and Singapore. Some are 5 hrs apart, some are 8 hrs and so on. Again I get only half of a time slot. So, being 18 hrs online everyday is actually less. Don't you think?

More over we Indians have plenty of relatives.

Everything's gonna be alright!!!

We once spend a holiday in a hill station in India...such a serene place...the hotel was more like home stay... there they don’t have TV's...no phone in the room...they take our mobile phone/ laptop in the reception...and asked us to give the hotel number to people who really want to know where you are...

Hubby was a bit annoyed first..he cannot live without checking his official mail..lol but we had such a wonderful memorable holiday....without any external interference....and everything was fine without internet and phones...

We need to "regulate" ourselves and distinguish between those gadgets that add value to our life and those that don't.

I hate being able to found at all times. Sometimes I wish to escape to the top of a mountain and live in a hut. I love going on vacation each summer, because for 2 months the only call I receive is 1 per day from my husband.
