Beggars coming to the office
By timebandit •
Yesterday I had a woman walk into my office. She was dressed in hijab, and spoke no English. Except the words "Give me money" and "Mother sick". I gave her some money and then watched her walk into every office on my floor. She was well dressed with a quality looking bag. Now I know you don't have to be dressed in rags to be in need of money, but after she had left a couple of things crossed my mind. Had I just been scammed? Isn't health care free here? How much can she make in a day (she just left with a reasonable amount of money from my floor)?
Who else on QL has experienced this?
better than selling your kitty kat , i guess
may still be a big problem in Abu Dhabi in offices with poor security although if you call the police they quickly disappear (not the police the beggars).
2020 Olympics...that is what I was wondering about...people can just walk into offices here? Not possible in the offices here that I have been to.
They have to pass security .
About an hour ago was waiting outside my apt for the pick up to come to pick up a few things to my new place and a Pajero pulls up and two men wearing local dress call me and start narrating that they are from Saudi, the KSA and after completing their stay while returning they broke down the gear box of their other car on Salwa road and though they got it fixed they do not have any money left for fuel....lol...It was funny to see him talk with his leg on the dashboard.... I just said 'la' and turned. And this is not the first time, happened two time earlier while waiting at traffic signal with that sword like thing near Alfardan towers when the car standing next honked and narrated the same story.
Something is not right about these incidences.
will you start a thread, if you had paid 10 times more to a slut (forgive my ignorance, i couldn't find better name)?
To OP: Complain to your security. They should be fired or severely dealt with for this to happen.
Why Britexpat.. I am told they have death penalty here also..:)
I didn't mean to put you off. I'm sure Qatar is different..
BritExpat..thanks for putting sense in me just when I was about to do the fatal mistake..:)
I recall a case in Saudi..
A "local" gave her number to a friend. He called and arranged to meet her at a place. He got tarted up, expensive aftershave, polished shoes, teeth brushed, hair combed, nasal hair removed etc etc.
Got to the meeting place and as soon as he met her, he was accosted by a couple of men claiming to be her brothers.
Long story short - they threatened to report him to the police unless he gave them all his money, watch, phone etc.
Came back a very unhappy man :O(
Stealth who?
TB now that is a good idea or may be even give Rizks number..He is already bald and technically has nothing to loose..:)
Just give her Brits number ;)
UK, ask Pikey ;) he is well experienced in those things isnt it?
if you do not hear from me..Then please check me in any police station or the detention centre and contact me only on my UK mobile number..:)
best of luck UkEng !
hope to see you back again on QL tomorrow if everything goes fine ? :)
lol Britexpat.. Now thats a thought well considering..:)
Ok will give it to her today and see what happens
To be continued ..
Will advise when and what happens
Take a chance. you can always buy another wig :o)
stealth I know that she is local..
Rizks you really want me to get into trouble...:)
which, QL id ? :)
ask for id
lol UkEng....
why not ask her to lift her hijaba and show u the face before you give ur number to her, just to make sure tat she is she and not a He.....:)
Britexpat.. I just had a hair transplant and don't want to loose the expensive hair because of the worries..
You encountered so late :)
A lady beggar in expensive abaya with a driver and a car is very common here
Give her the number. What do you have to lose.
I had one lady in Abaya asking for my number..
Now what to do yani..Shall I or Shall I not give her my number?
Dilemma
Oopss, i am getting revealed bit by bit ! :(
Was she Knock-Kneed with a Lungi visible under the Abaya ?
it's happening also here in KSA, just yesterday on our office.
is it a fad now?
i will NOT britey, those are mine...:(
Please bring back the Abaya Mrs Expat lent you.

The British sense of humour can sometimes be misconstrued. TB would like to point out that Rizks has never borrowed any money from him. Neither did Rizks promise to give me his car, or pay for all the coffee at the next meet.
TB apologises if his sense of humour is whacky, British and crap, and would like to arrange counselling for any QLers affected by his nonsense.
nah..i remember tat TB - coz recently only i had taken tat amount frm ya and even promised you tat i will return you back soon.................NOT ! :)
And you promised to give me your car.
Oh.... forgotten that as well have you?
Rizks when are you going to give me back that QR 1,000 I loaned you?
oh tats sad to hear Khanan, hope he recovers soon (whoever he is ? ).
The cocounut smashed his head and the treatments done on his head cleared the memory as well as hairs.
after the incident where i was standing under the coconut tree and munching pappadums and suddenly the coconut fell on my head and i have lost most of my memories ! :(
sorry dont remember him !
he is not in good shape and had left Qatar for good.
Not too long ago I was stopped by a Saudi man riding in a GMC car with his family. He claimed he was at the Veillagio cinema with his family when someone snatched his wallet in which he had the money and Master/visa cards then asked if I could give him QR.5000 to fuel up the car and buy his family some food o_O! I almost showed him the middle finger!
UkEng, Poor Rizks! He forgot his best friend pajju so quickly.
Pajju your long lost buddy and one time very close friend..:)
who the hell is Pajju ? :O)
Is that a new way for Pajju to scam money..:)
Pajju is the driver waiting downstairs..:)
Almost once in a week, Some times even they come with a kid...
One should never help them, cuz helping them mean encouraging them to continue it
For my understanding, beggar is people who jobless and indeed need help and support to survive so they need to put down their honor to ask people for money. But for those who acting worthless to scam people money n come out with high end car even driver ...what the point....this sound interesting lol
Was approached by one in the Jarir BS parking...I just said 'la' and vanished.
BTW whats the point of being active on QL if one doesnt read such information...flirting is OK but keep tab on such info too...:)
TB, These type of tramps are visiting the houses and flats asking for alms. One of my friend who is living with his family is always getting cheated with such tramps. You should tell them to approach Qatar Charity. This is the modern style of begging.
I've had enough experience with these con artist scams disguised as beggars that made me resolve to hear after call the numbers mentioned by king the next time I am approached! And the straw that broke the camels back moment was the other day in Lulu's this lady, all clad in a nice clean abayah and niqab, came over, gave me salaams, sat beside my daughter and I and assuming us to be Arabs started rattling off in Arabic tales of woe I barely understood. My daughter acted as translator and as it appeared she was short of cash for medicine. So after much thought I handed her some money and she says says she actually needs 100QR which made me suspicious. I just shrugged my shoulders and said that's all I have to spare. So she walked off. And guess what? Not even a few mins later another one, similarly clad, pops up and tries the same thing!! Man, was I upset...This time I just pretended I knew no Arabic so she slunk off. I mean seriously that's so lame. Like my sister joked, bet the first one called her buddy and said "pssst..sucker over there. See what you can get" Sheeeesh!
@TB I think with LV :D
I think I gave my money to Gucci
I was hearing this news from last year and did not believe until I personally experience it. In my case I was actually rushing my way home and there this beggar approached me and asking for money with etc., reasons. I replied diplomatically and told her. "Would you like me to help you solve your problem?" "I know some Charity Center Near Madinat Khalifa and they helped a lot of in need" "if you can't go there at least show me your QID so I could help you more" She replied? a poker face and walk out! I said to myself Alas! she was a scammer!
Well, it is up to you if you're gonna give money. I remember my egyptian friend who gives money to beggars. I ask him why did he give money to the beggar, maybe its their job to ask for money. My egyptian friend told me, I give it to GOD not to the beggar. Though i have different opinion, i respect his.
this is true story:
one day i followed that woman in Hijab and Abaya. she got into a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser with a Driver.
i felt stupid.
Thanks for that athar83
gone thru the same scam..
do check out this link .. they have already arrested quite a few of them ..

I hate beggars that come and harass you
LP.. why are you all using decimal instead of ',' in figures?
http://www.qatarliving.com/node/175028
They can be found everywhere...even in flats. I used to give before, once I was in a parking and a lady asked me for money. First thought came in my mind was… if they had any other option would they beg?? but I was wrong, after two day I saw her in a different mall there were few other ladies they all got in a good car with a driver.
After few days, I saw a thread on QL with the same issue... I think they don’t have any self esteem... for their extra expenses they beg. I don’t give anything now..
and how much she must have made in a week ?
Qrs. 20,000/- ? :(
thinkin of changing my profession.....:)
The 'Richest Country in the World'?
They only 'work' five days a week. So, she won't make more than 20.000 a month. Is it worth the hassle?
Call and Report Begging on 44714225 , 44823455
She could well have left our building with over QR 1,000 and who know how much she had just made from the one next door, and how much she was going to make in the next building,
you will also find people beggin in the car parks too...especially near FFC, Pizza Hut parking etc....they will offer some attar(oil perfume) and tells tat they came here on visit and dont have money to go back home and they dont have money to have food etc. etc.
dunno if they Really tellin the truth ?
since qatar is the richest country in the world, beggars also have more privileges than other countries.
Not me anymore... Unless I know what their circumstances are. And it's easy to stoop so low when no one knows who you are.
+1 to jjj75
If someone has to stoop so low and lose all dignity by doing it, I would give them money regardless. one never knows their circumstances, good or bad
even they came to my home a few times. Yes young lady with nice bag. one time with kid.
Looks like I got scammed then :(
It won't happen again.
my friend had experienced these beggars, there was one lady in abaya and was young with a nice bag in her hand came to his office askin 'Vain Mudeer' (Where is the manager? ) and started askin for money.
She went around in everu office collectin money and guess what ?
a driver was waiting for her down in the car ! :(
