Beware: Claiming to Be Stranded & In Need
Okay, so we are visiting for the last week & scouting out potential employers when this guy happens to be at one of these places we are checking out for employment. The place is kinda shaky itself, but that is another story, LOL.
He talks to my spouse claiming that he has been scammed out of someone claiming to have employment waiting here for him, stating he was from South Africa, has two children back home. He said he had no money, no place to stay, and could not get back to his country, blah, blah, etc. Needless to say, my husband felt sorry for him and gave him our mobile number.
When my husband told me about it, all the red flags started flying in my head. First of all, he could not come to Qatar on a one-way ticket nor a visa without a sponsor from South Africa. Therefore, how could he not get in touch with this so-called person who brought him to Qatar for a job and then became MIA? Could he not go to the authorities in Qatar to track down his sponsor? Could he not go to his home embassy to get assistance?
All these questions, I brought to my spouse and said, "Hell no, we are not gonna help someone who we do not know and is named, of all names, John Kennedy! Especially when all these things are sketchy and quite questionable."
So, be careful out there people. You don't know who is out there trying to get over on you!
@ Iqraz
Same person narrated the same story to me when I went to Family food centre in Al Rayaan. But I told him, if you and your family is hungry I can buy you stuff from FFC but I cant give you money.
Then he moved and stopped by a Qatari...
So beware of these liers!!!
It is happening quite often in qatar.... be careful all of you..
My giving of money the intention is to Charity.Rest of the activities will be taken care by our all mighty.
@Iqraz. even i happend have the same incident and i heard the same from few people .. dont know if its for real or scam .. but since many incidents in same story, so it could be a scam
Similar incident but happened in Muscat, Oman. The person was from Dubai and was driving a posh 4*4. Wife and 3 kids were with him. Rest all story is same.
I think if I would have been in his situation I would have sold my car first before begging to strangers. Don't you think?
Last week I went to see my cousin who was admitted to Hamad hospital. While I was comming back to my car suddenly GMC four wheel stopped nearby me and requested help from me.Actually he is from Oman and visited Qatar. His vehicle had problem and repaired through the agent. Then he had to spent all the money he brought from Oman plus visa, credit card everything. Then I checked there was a lady sitting front of the vehicle carrying an infant.Oman's wife looks like half dead becuase of the hunger. There were kids back of the vehicle two tired and Omani was having very frustrated face.I checked the number plate also it's from oman.So finally I just look at my wife face and agreed to give him Qrs.xxx.Then omani thanked me and and went away.

With the exception of listed countries, it is not that easy to get a visa to Qatar. They require that you provide documentation and the like. Also, you need a sponsor to enter the country. He didn't have any of that type of information for my husband. Plus, his name, for a South African, was the oddest thing ever. So, in my opinion, he was full of it.
Mz.Malaika: Do you mind sharing the name of the company that seemed a bit shaky? Or you could PM me the name if you don't want to post it publicly. I am also going through a job search is the reason I ask...
