A Mail on Sunday investigation - which will alarm anyone concerned about animal cruelty - has revealed that schools, hospitals, pubs and famous sporting venues such as Ascot and Twickenham are controversially serving up meat slaughtered in accordance with strict Islamic law to unwitting members of the public.

All the beef, chicken and lamb sold to fans at Wembley has secretly been prepared in accordance with sharia law, while Cheltenham College, which boasts of its ‘strong Christian ethos’, is one of several top public schools which also serves halal chicken to pupils without informing them.

Even Britain’s biggest hotel and restaurant group Whitbread, which owns the Beefeater and Brewers Fayre chains, among many others, has admitted that more than three-quarters of its poultry is halal.

Not if my aunt back there has a say in it..lol! Seriously I can't imagine her giving up her pork chops. And having watched the vid adey posted last night I doubt piggies are gonna see the light of longevity anytime soon!

Couldn't care less...btw...are pigs also slaughtered the halal way? Just wondering, as it says "Britain goes halal"....and there certainly is pork available (at least for now) in Britain.

At the end of the day it's more ethical to serve halal meat to all than serving non-halal to muslims.

flor..only slitting the animal in a specific way makes it halal or Kosher. How it is then prepared from there is no different in any other way.

By slitting the throat of the animal the animal bleeds to its death, meaning that a significient about of the blood is drained from the animal body. Where as stunning it with an electrical stunning gun will mean that animal will retain most of its blood within its dead body.

Scare mongering from the Mail as usual.. As the Whitbread spokesman said: "We don’t specify halal as a requirement in our procurement. We base our ­decision on quality and price"

I am sure that it is more to do with business and costs then Islamic infiltration..

But you mentioned Controversially serving meat....

I know that out of 202 more or less local authorities 200 had an option for serving Halal meat to it's pupils in schools.

With demand and time comes change.

And specailly now when Halal meat is been prepared on a Industrial level maybe they are cutting other meat suppliers?

as long as it was prepared the "PROPER" way, whether you called it halal orother term, it is acceptable. That's why you put meat inspectors, to make sure that products are safe and clean and slaughtered the proper way.

Now I am curious about what Saeed's talkin about "normal" way versus "halal" ways?

Halal/Kosher food has been readily available in the UK as long as I can remember. I think what the problem here is it should be about choice, it's unfair to go to a restaurant and be given halal meat. It's not like we can get non-halal here...or can we?

what I'm saying is, how sure are the food mentioned in the article are "halal". How sure that the food in the Doha supermarkets are "halal"? Because it is stamped?

You call it "halal", I call it the traditional proper way. Won't you eat a food not prepared by you or you did not see how it was slaughtered?

This is good news for many Muslims in UK. Having said that Muslims are also permitted to eat the meat slaughtered by Christians and Jews so I guess its not like they have been deprived in anyway even in the past. still this will make them feel better I guess.

why does it need to be "secretly prepared" as stated in the article?

What so unique about whether it is halal or something else. What is important is doing it the proper way. When I slaughter a chicken and cut it's throat, does it mean I'm doing it the Muslim way? I'm doing it the proper way, not necessary the Muslim way. I was brought this way and to me, it is the proper way.

Is Britain a Muslim-dominated country already that it needs "Halal" food? For the Muslim, it's a requirement, for others, as log as it is properly prepared (from slaughtering to serving), it's not necessarily "halal" or whatever term one use!

flor not everyone in the slaughter house has to be muslim, only the one who is slitting the throat of the animal has to be. The rest of the workers can be from any religious background.
