Britian soon to be knocked out by Russia!

QT

hmmm...

Why do I get the distinct impression Russia will soon knock Britian out of 3rd place in the olympics?

Actually the Yanks got confused.. They thought that baton is something they march with, so they started juggling it..

Go ahead and do your 10,000 meter dash to your local bar. Make sure you tag alone with your Boy, Mr. Paul.

I'll try to persuade Britexpat to drink up some distilled spirits at the local bar, once he comes out of the mosque.

Don't worry about the Yanks dropping the baton, they felt sorry for british runners medal count.

The Baton was made in china, not to american standards, you know ergonomic grip, anti-slippery material and velcro catcher.

CNN. It didn't mention anything about the two US relay teams failing to qualify. It showed only the US athletes that won. Very selective.

These 'septic tanks' need to calm down a bit. The UK & Australia are doing pretty well considering the population of the countries. Infact you could argue the septics are having a poor olympics.

China............. 1,321,851,888

USA............... 300,000,000

UK................ 60,587,300

Russia............ 142,000,000

Australia......... 21,370,000

Germany........... 82,217,800

Although if your comparing the poplulation of the counrty to the medal table...where are these countries below?

India............. 1,132,446,000

Philippines....... 90,574,614

You are right about how the medal count is listed - well at least on Yahoo. That is what I usually check in the mornings. When you click on "Medal count" it gives you the break down. I didn't realize that Great Britain has 17 golds and Russia has 16.

I commend all of the atletes on a job well done - regardless of their nationality. Having two children that have always been very active in sports - I know what it takes. I also feel for the parents who have had to get those athletes to practice every day. My hat is off to them all.

The viewing of the Olympics here is the states sucks. NBC has done a terrible job.

And it's AT LEAST bronze for the boxers. They could go on to get gold. And the girl in the BMXing is tipped to do well.

Apparently the IOC don't believe in a medal table (not in the spirit of the games) but unofficially lists by number of golds, according to this; http://penguinsix.com/2008/08/18/the-olympic-medal-table-race-more-golds-or-more-medals/

Scoring medals 3-2-1 as RR suggested would make sense to me, but I've never seen it done.

but i'm not 100% certain....someone will have to back me up or disprove my theory...it just makes the most sense to me....anyways...

Enjoy the games....and Stay safe all.

The medals are not all worth the same.

Gold is worth 3

Silver 2

and Bronze 1

What they "should" be doing is showing you the total score based on how many of each medal is won....but different countries show the tables by whatever places them in the best position, i've noticed this too lol.

But nations that punch above their weights in terms of medal won are most impressive of all (ie ones that win lots despoite small populations...and no I don't mean like bahrain winning ONE lol)...I mean countries like say Cuba!

Either way participation is what counts and the chance to represnent your country is an honor...even if you finish last!

Go Canada!

Stay safe all.

Someone told me that in America they show the medal table sorted by total MEDALS won, which puts the US top, while everywhere else it is sorted by total GOLDS won (the official way), which puts the US second. Can anyone verify that?

4th is where GB are predicted to end up (based on the last World Championship results for all sports), so it's to be expected. Give us some room for improvement for 2012 as well.
