Burial or Cremation?

BlueBull
By BlueBull

Which is better and why? Which one would you prefer if given a choice? It's better to burn out than fade away. Kurt Cobain clearly thought so, quoting this famous Neil Young lyric in his suicide note, but then he obviously wasn't referring to the issue of greenhouse-gas emissions when it comes to the somewhat thorny cremation v burial debate.

For most environmentalists, it's actually better to fade away than burn out. Our lives, they say, already result in enough gratuitous combusting of fossil fuels. Much better, in death, to compost down as nature intended :)

What do you think?

"...Earlier Jews didn't allow cremation as they thought human beings were God's creation...thus would be a sin to destroy God's creation. Since Christianity and Islam evolved from Judaism, they advocate burial...."

Islamic logic doesnt work in this way; Islam is a complete way of life which has taught us how to deal with birth and death as well.

So we do as per the example set by Prophet Muhammad PBUH who was guided through revelations by God Almighty. So we follow gods command without any ifs or buts and without getting into reasoning.

We use all our logic and reasoning to verify whether this indeed was what the messenger told us to follow.

"...Since Christianity and Islam evolved from Judaism, they advocate burial..."

Islam is since beginning; Even the first human being on earth (Adam alaihessalam) was a muslim. So how come you can claim that islam originated from judaism ???

Hey, I agree with your Grandad. Can never be too safe in these situations. However, I have no plans on dying as my current employer won't give me sick pay if I die, so not doing it right now!

BlueBull, Thankyou!! Would like to talk about the other side now. Earlier Jews didn't allow cremation as they thought human beings were God's creation...thus would be a sin to destroy God's creation. Since Christianity and Islam evolved from Judaism, they advocate burial.

On the other hand, the Vedantists believed in trans-migration of soul and that after death the souls left the bodies. Since the bodies were considered to be composed of the five elements on earth, they would turn it back to the original form by cremating. The derivative religions of Vedantist ideology, all advocate cremation.

Zorashtrians keep the dead over the towers and feed scavengers..thus bacteria and worms are bypassed and the organic matters enter other higher living beings.

He used to keep a full container of drinking water = 1 liter, a torch , and lump sugar = 500 gm stock, a radio,

a diary used for calendar pupose, another diary/book for keeping money currency notes near by him 24/7.

to dust you shall return. When a person dies, the memories are erased. Whatever you want, it's the living who will finally decide how you will be buried.

Buried please - with a phone in case I am not properly gone. And a can of coke and a sandwich. Nothing like waking up and not having food and drink near you! I would say a cigarette as well but I have been smoke free for 3 weeks now.

And a torch. Hate the dark in tight spaces. Thanks.

But if I am dead, party time for the worms, all they can eat buffet on me!

MM, Yes, I mean cremation by fire. Functionally, its the same as being created by electric process. The end product is the same. I have corrected the spelling.

Cremation in the cremation grounds facilitate some hindu rituals so many prefer it. But, who don't believe in afterlife and appeasing the soul, go for a simpler process in the electric furnaces.

The heat inside the earth, 5 feet or 10 feet below, is good for bacteria to rot the flesh.

Cremation of the dead is a quicker path in the on-going carbon and nitrogen cycle. The amount of greenhouse gas emitted during cremation is insignificant compared to the number of flares burning all over the world on a constant basis.

Well, if you want your body to be food for rodents, ants and bacteria..write a 'will' to be buried.

as per my faith and beliefs, provided my body is intact at I'm not at sea I would definitely want a proper Islamic funeral and burial.

Asking only , Is there less heat in case of 'burial' under ground say 5 feet down as compared to 10 feet down ?

When that moment comes our self pride reading shows 'Zero'.

So it is the 'circumstances' which decide what to do with 'Zero' pride ex 'I'.

'I' has no say .

Recently, what happened to soldiers who were unfortunately buried under the snow in a near by country.

I want whatever they did to Lenin and Ho Chi Minh. So that people can come view my body for decades afterward. Or I want to be shot into space like Gene Roddenberry.
