Good description cg. :D I can't believe I forgot Quebec City. Ottawa is also really nice.
Amazingly we are both forgetting the Territories! Little does everyone know Pond Inlet in Nunavut is now a major toursit destination for environmental tourism. I haven't had the pleasure of going myself, but I've seen pictures. You can kayak up to gigantic ice flows, see polar bears and caribou, seals, etc. Live with the local Inuit population. It's supposed to be something else. However the population is quite tiny, and you;d have to be very willing to live in isolation and wear seal fur (which is the only thing that is able to stand up to the chilling winter temperatures) And eat caribou and watch the annual whale hunt.

There are many places to visit and many things to see in Canada. Let's travel East to West.
Nova Scotia is a beautiful province, reknowned mostly for its apple orchards and colorful leaves in the Autumn, its horribly polluted Halifax Harbour, and the largest museum collection of items retrieved from the Titanic, which sunk off its shores. The Cabot Trail in Cape Breton is absolutely breath-taking (provided you don't travel it in foggy conditions).
Newfoundland is known to be brutal in the winter yet absolutely stunning year round, though extremely foggy in the St. John's area. I've yet to meet a Newfoundlander outside his/her province who isn't biding his/her time 'til going back.
The population of New Brunswick is roughly the same as that of Qatar, though it is much less culturally diverse, except in the Southern part of the Province, where universities attract students from many countries, particularly the French-speaking university in Moncton (lots of African and South American students). Moncton and surrounding area are beautiful in the summertime, with beautiful beaches, lots of food, miles of protected sand dunes, lots to do for the kids, etc. New Brunswick attracts many Europeans because land there is so cheap, and many very rich Americans flock to its rivers in the summertime for what is recognized as some of the world's greatest salmon fishing.
Prince Edward Island is a popular tourist destination in the summer for families and golfers. About the size of Qatar, it is reknowned for its sandy red beaches and its many children's attractions (Anne of Green Gables, Santa's Village, etc.).
Quebec is a very large province. I'm surprised no one has mentioned visiting Quebec City, one of the most pittoresque cities in Canada. A visit to the Old Quarter is a must, and the food is absolutely amazing, though the attitude is somewhat lacking. English is not spoken in some of the smaller shops, but it is a huge tourist destination and so English is spoken in all major restaurants, retail stores and hotels. In the winter it's popular for its skiing. Montreal is definitely more cosmopolitan, probably some of the best bars, discos and food in the country, if not North America. The area North of Montreal in the Laurentians is not to be missed.
Ontario does not only boast Toronto. You can also visit the country's capital city Ottawa, which has beautiful tulip gardens in the spring, and skating on the Rideau Canal in the winter. There is beautiful cottage country, and many lakes to vacation on throughout the province.
I'm less familiar with the prairie provinces (Manitoba, Saskatchewan) so will reserve comments, but I have heard that it is so flat that if your dog runs away you can see him go for two days!
Alberta is a booming province. While the biggest thing coming out of there used to be the Calgary Stampede, it is now overflowing with laborers living in literal tent cities as they rush to the overabundance of work brought on by the oil boom. It's known also for its Chinooks, warm winter winds which blow down from the Rockies and can melt inches of slow in a matter of hours.
British Columbia is best known for Vancouver and Victoria, two cities that boast cultural and geographical diversity. Victoria is probably the most temperate city in Canada, where the temperature rarely drops below one degree. Lots of rain in the wintertime though. But the Ocean Coast flanked by towering mountains is absolutely awe-inspiring.
It's hard to describe Canada. It is so vast, and so much of it is uninhabited. Most of the provinces are populated only along a thin line at the South of the country that borders the United States. The rest is mostly wilderness and wide open spaces. Some of the best times to be had are in its small villages, not its large urban centers. It can be deathly cold in the winter, and stifling in the summer. The smell of spring in Canada is better than any air freshener they'll ever manage to package. Fresh air, green trees and fields, churning rivers, ocean views, you can find it all.
They kill them for Fur and meat. But also because the population is so large it destroys the fish stocks and if many of them aren't culled, they end up starving to death. I remember during the 5 years the hunt was banned we had two hundred starved seal corpses wash up on the beach. Really wasn't fun burying them.
[img_assist|nid=13228|title=I feel your scorn and I accept it-Jon Stewart|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=180|height=180]
Why do they kill them and what for? Poor wee things i love seals! That would make me so sad.
[img_assist|nid=13270|title=Love Life|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=180|height=113]
love life!
You've never heard of the seal hunt? Every year in northern Newfoundland they do a seal hunt, where I they go out on the ice flows and kill a couple thousand harbour seals. It's a major part of the Newfoundland economy. And every year Paul McCartney and other celebs go out on the ice to say how cruel it is.
[img_assist|nid=13228|title=I feel your scorn and I accept it-Jon Stewart|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=180|height=180]
Oh no dont tell me they do that! Im the girl who cant even kill an ant or a cockroach! It drives the hubby crazy! No really? thats so sad! Nah those guys wouldnt have enough disposable income for it really !!!!
[img_assist|nid=13270|title=Love Life|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=180|height=113]
love life!
You could always open a hotel in the Northern part and take in all those PETA activists who go to whine about the seal hunt Charmed. Nobody else in Newfoundland will put them up. :P
[img_assist|nid=13228|title=I feel your scorn and I accept it-Jon Stewart|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=180|height=180]
she was only giving her opinion on a question and you tore into her FT! Good job she can look after herself!!!
I do think shes right thou, we went to Toronoto and as lovely as it was you do tend to run out of things to do rather quickly but the vibe there was nice! However i do know that most Canadians hate Tornonto! And also land prices is that area are horrendous!!
We want somewhere like Gypsy said in the country so we can have outside activitys such as Canoing, Horse Riding, Walking, just somewhere for people to go and unwind and chill!! ( No hunting for sure!) So thank you all for your comments especially Gypsy - we looked at land prices in Newfoundland yesterday but there doesnt seem to be much up for sale at the mo! Hey ho!!

Thanks for your compliments guys! I feel so loved, LOL!
JoeCanuck, spoken about the T dot O dot like a true Canadian. :D
Father Ted, I haven't directed a comment in your direction in forever, why are you still talking about me?? Obsession doesn't suit you.
[img_assist|nid=13228|title=I feel your scorn and I accept it-Jon Stewart|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=180|height=180]
Nah Mystica you don't have to worry, I'm done with Gypsy, I am getting tired of outwitting her all the time. I am glad you are having a great day! Take care :)
I'm good! Thanks for asking! Please don't be too harsh to gypsy, I don't want her to get cranky and leave the board. without her presence in a day, I shall miss her. she's very intelligent woman who enjoys debates and it's not a sin to be frank and don't allow any bullshit from others. That is gypsy she's one in a million! I like her very much even I don't really post in her thread because she's too intellectual for my category but I enjoy reading all her comments.
Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig 2 graves...
u cant understand what i say. u just know ur self what u say thats all.
[img_assist|nid=13339|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=180|height=180]
Hey darude, you can't construct a sentence by throwing together random words from the English language . If I could understand what you just said I would respond.
The fact is Father Ted don't really know how especial gypsy is in QL. He's a priest so he don't tolerate cheeky people's opinion but what he don't know is gypsy gives spice to QL.
Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig 2 graves...
What are you talking about Mystica? I am nice to everyone until they attack me first. Everyone knows that! And how are you doing today?
...saying in my country; Canada is united by its common hatred of Toronto. Toronto is known as a cold hearted city. If not hated, it's certainly not loved. To find out what your average canuck thinks of the big smoke, all they have to do is leave the GTA and ask around.
Toronto, (and many of the Torontonians I've met), think of themselves as the center of the universe, culture, sophistication, industry...basically all that is good about canada centers in Toronto.
The rest of Canada is just a life support system for the GTA.

According to her comment prior to the last one darude, you were the one being trashed, but then again I wouldn't expect you to know that ...
What's scary is what your partner has to see when you get undressed for bed.
he loves being trashed by ur comments thats why. :D
[img_assist|nid=13339|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=180|height=180]

[img_assist|nid=13228|title=I feel your scorn and I accept it-Jon Stewart|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=180|height=180]
See that right there is your problem gypsy, you need to learn to love yourself if you want to overcome these feelings of insecurity. Hating yourself because of your intellectual capacity (or lack thereof) will achieve nothing.
u are huge one damn need a nuke bomb for u than damn so expensive u are :D

[img_assist|nid=13339|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=180|height=180]

[img_assist|nid=13228|title=I feel your scorn and I accept it-Jon Stewart|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=180|height=180]
Glad to see you posting here again. Long time no see and that is why QL was so boring for the last 3 or 4 days.
missing your posts :)
Convince yourself that that is the reason ;).
Yes, of course. I wasn't posting because the thread was directed at Canadians.
[img_assist|nid=13228|title=I feel your scorn and I accept it-Jon Stewart|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=180|height=180]
noticed me enough to chase me wherever I post...
Yes threatned by your vast knowledge...that's exactly it...It's nice that you think I have ever noticed you on the forum though, keep that happy thought. ;)
[img_assist|nid=13228|title=I feel your scorn and I accept it-Jon Stewart|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=180|height=180]
Lady please, I don't believe in no imaginary supreme being. I think you're just envious of my vast knowledge of Canada and feel threatened by me on these forums. It's cool though, I got nothing against you, I just call things as I see them.
Calm m e down? you're the one accusing me of being a racist hick?? I just said Toronto was dull. If that's how the "good lord" teaches you to argue I think I'm better off staying away.
[img_assist|nid=13228|title=I feel your scorn and I accept it-Jon Stewart|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=180|height=180]
Gypsy you should come to my church sometime, maybe the good lord can help calm you down.
Ummm the only person I see still upset over the last thread is you Father Ted. You just keep showing your ignorance about Canada. First of all, let me assure that their are multiple ethnicites everywhere else in Canada, especially Montreal and Vancouver, in fact "white" Canadians are the minority in Vancouver, and I recommend people visited both those places. Infact the second most spoken language in Halifax is Arabic with 34% of the city speaking it. Nova Scotia also as the largest African American population per capita as it was the end of the underground railway. So perhaps you should do a little research before you start making exaggerated and baseless claims.
As for the beer drinking and incestous sex????? What the hell is that, the most sterotypical thing I ever heard. What are you trying to tell me, they don't drink beer in Toronto right now? Or there is no sexual abuse? And beastiality!! WTF??
Toronto is dull, all Canadians outside Toronto say so. Sure you can go up the CN Tower, that's fun for about 10 mintues. As for museums, the ones in Montreal are far better, especially the Art Galleries. Not to mention they have the two worst sports teams in Canada! If you want hockey go to Calgary, Ottawa or Montreal, the Maple Leafs suck. (and Psst Niagra falls isn't in Toronto, neither are those beaches!)
Also, I think it was pretty obvious from Charm's post that she was looking for natural tourism, which Toronto most defintely does not have, and the zoo dosen't count...neither does Younge St on a Friday night. :P
How about you leave the recommendations about Canada to someone who actually knows something about Canada.
[img_assist|nid=13228|title=I feel your scorn and I accept it-Jon Stewart|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=180|height=180]
Gypsy is still emotional over the the last thread, what an immature child. Real Canadians hate Toronto huh? Only Canadians I know who hate Toronto are the ones who are mad at the multi-ethnicities living there. I guess you were one of those rednecks who can relate to the cops I was talking about in the other thread.
To even suggest Toronto is a place to skip just shows how much of an ignorant hick gypsy is, there are just so many enjoyable activities to do there. You have the CN tower, Niagara falls is not far away, several art galleries, museums covering everything from Canadian military to historic sport atheletes, film festivals, cultural events for the different ethnicities there, slightly north of there is Canada's most renowned theme park 'Wonderland', several beautiful beaches are there, the list goes on and on.
If however your idea of a good time is getting drunk and engaging in incestuous sexual activity or bestiality, then by all means take gypsy's advice. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Agreed Greg, but for a tourism based industry there's lots to be done because the East Coast is beautiful, whereas Alberta is already jammed to the gills with hotels and resorts in the rockies, and the theres nothing to see but acres of grass anywhere but the Rockies.
There's a lot of potential for Newfoundland Tourism.
[img_assist|nid=13228|title=I feel your scorn and I accept it-Jon Stewart|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=180|height=180]
Thhe east coast of canada is a tough place to make abusiness work as it is the poorest of the provinces. Right now Alberta is booming.
Bless you Gypsy for your reply you have really made me want to go there right now!! And thank you to everyone else too! Its good to get peoples perspectives on this!
Newfoundland is a name which keeps popping up with us and Calgry too which have both been mentioned! Basically were looking at opening a self catering resort / ground ( not your big tacky style!) in Canada and NB is the top of our list, the followed by Newfoundland! We need somewhere where its not too expensive to do! ( its our way of being allowed into Canada – were obsessed!!) were reaserching all our options at the moment and trying to work out whats the best approach on this!!! I mean we need to ensure that we will have clients!!! Vancouver sounds ideal but it’s a shame about the expensive side of it and I think if we actually moved there we might enjoy the “ grass “ a bit too much and get nothing done!!!! Gosh its all so exciting and thank you all again!!! We going to keep looking around at prices and options! If anyone has any opinion on this that would be so appreciated! Thank you all !

As you may know, Vancouver will host the 2010 Winter Olympics. Believe it or not, these questions about Canada were posted on an International Tourism Website. Yes, these really were asked!
Q: I have never seen it warm on Canadian TV, so how do the plants grow? (England)
A. We import all plants fully grown from the USA and then just sit around and watch them die.
Q: Will I be able to see Polar Bears in the street? (USA)
A: Depends on how much you've been drinking.
Q: I want to walk from Vancouver to Toronto. Can I follow the railway tracks? (Sweden)
A: Sure, it's only four thousand miles. Take lots of water.
Q: Is it safe to run around in the bushes in Canada? (Sweden)
A: So it's true what they say about you Swedes.
Q: It is imperative that I find the names and addresses of places to contact for a stuffed beaver. (Italy)
A: Let's not even touch this one!
Q: Are there any ATM's (cash machines) in Canada? Can you send me a list of them in Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton and Halifax? (England)
A: What, did your last slave die?
Q: Which direction is North in Canada? (USA)
A: Face south and then turn 180 degrees. Contact us when you get here and we'll send the rest of the directions.
Q: Can I bring cutlery into Canada? (England)
A: Why? Just use your fingers like we do.
Q: Do you have perfume in Canada? (Germany)
A: No, WE don't stink.
Q: Can you tell me the regions in British Columbia where the female population is smaller than the male population? (Italy)
A: Yes, gay nightclubs.
Q: Do you celebrate Thanksgiving in Canada? (USA)
A: Only at Thanksgiving.
Q: Are there supermarkets in Toronto and is milk available all year round? (Germany)
A: No, we are a peaceful civilization of Vegan hunter/gatherers. Milk is illegal.
Q: I have a question about a famous animal in Canada, but I forget its name. It's a kind of big horse with horns. (USA )
A: It's called a Moose. They are tall and very violent, eating the brains of anyone walking close to them. You can scare them off by spraying yourself with human urine before you go out walking.
Q: Like, will I be able to speak English most places I go? (USA)
A: Yes, but you will have to learn it first.
Charmed Father Ted has absolutely NO idea what he is talking about. I would honestly question if he has ever even been to Canada
New Brunswick is alright, but not where I would go for summer vacation. I personally refer to it as the third dullest province, after Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
I would defintely pick Newfoundland over New Brunswick. Newfoundland is spectacularly gorgeous. Up until the end of June you will be able to see ice burgs in the Straight between Southern Labrador and St. Anthony's. You can visit Gros Morne, with it's amazing mountains and fijords, get to look at a moose, a whale and an ice burg all at the same time, and visit a Viking Village. St. John's is lovely little city, with an amazing nightlife. Most importantly the people are the friendliest and most outgoing you will ever meet in your life. In all my travels I've yet to meet people as friendly and welcoming as a Newfie.
Also if you can you would really enjoy PEI and Nova Scotia, especially my island, Cape Breton. There is where you can get lots of seafood and drinks. In fact you'll be going smack dab in the middle of lobster season. And Halifax is the best little city in Canada, amazing heritage and there's loads of places to visit.
If you are looking for something more metropolitan, then go to Montreal. Don't waste your time in Toronto it is the worst most sterile and culturally devoid city in Canada. Real Canadians HATE Toronto. Montreal is culturally diverse, wonderfully unique and European. Great nightlife and restuarants. However, at certain points you may feel like you've never left the Middle East. But I'm a personal fan of Canadian/Arabic culture. Oooo if you get a chance try a donair and poutine. The donair can only be found in the East coast at any pizza place. It's wicked.
If you are in the mood to go really far West, go to Calgary then drive immediately up into the Mountains to Banff. You can spend a couple of days, or weeks, or years in what I think is the second most beautiful place in Canada (after Gros Morne national park in Newfoundland). You'll be able to see glaciers, elk, deer, bears, mountain goats. You can drive in a day or two from Banff to Vancouver. Van is really nice, very modern and Eastern Asian. Lot's of laid back hippies and some of the best "grass" in the world, and the best part is it's legal ;). My only issue with Van is that it is Crazy expensive. Otherwise great.
:D
[img_assist|nid=13228|title=I feel your scorn and I accept it-Jon Stewart|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=180|height=180]
newbrunswick is great if you love eating seafood and drinking.
Newfoundland is like the Alabama of Canada, I never been there but Canadian well share with you a lot of jokes on the newfies. The best places for tourism there would be Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.
http://www.tourismnewbrunswick.ca/
I suggest googling for options. I'm canadian but I have no idea about what's on that side of the country. Good luck.
