car with blue plates beating red light

i was in markhiya R/A this morning on the corner of Total Petrol Station waiting for the traffic light to turn green when this car beside me, a white toyota corolla with blue plates and the driver was a policeman suddenly took off when the red light was still on! it's a good thing no other vehicles were coming from our right side. i have seen some policemen but not all, violating specific traffic rules especially when they're driving their own vehicles like driving without wearing their seatbelt plus using their celfon and what else, overspeeding! is this ignorance of the law or just pure arrogance?

dms - "cameras in R/A's. And there is this system in R/A's about flashing yellow/caution light wherein you can enter the R/A as long as your left side is clear."

If the traffic lights were red, then there are yellow flashing lights. means can enter R/A as long as left side clear .. and then it should turn green, right?

There was this R/A near Lulu hypermart some time back and new traffic lights were installed (so it says on the sign). It was red lights so I stopped. Then it turned flashing yellow and I inched my car forward (when there was no vehicle on my left. I was turning left so had to be on the outermost lane but couldn't make it across as traffic was heavy. Anyway, after flashing yellow, it suddenly turned red. Oops! Yeah, after flashing yellow, normal rules, it turns red, but it was red to start with - so anyway, I got confused and had no choice but to cross then or get into more trouble. I haven't done it again after that once off thing but well, I may make other mistakes, hopefully not.

/Btw, I've never seen so many R/A in MY. So many in Qatar. But anyway, was I wrong or was the traffic signals not properly sorted at that time? Please enlighten me.

//Another thing, coming out of Villagio / Hyatt to go into the city, why is it that people take their own sweet time to cross when it's green? Then the yellow lights start to blink and then turn red, thus the driver behind who started crossing when it was green, got caught in the middle .. and maybe fined. Do they know something I don't? Like no camera at that traffic light?

I normally see police officer smoking inside their police vehicles. It's a bad image on their part.

cameras in R/A's. And there is this system in R/A's about flashing yellow/caution light wherein you can enter the R/A as long as your left side is clear.

But anyway, the thinking that they don't get fined is wrong, they are! And fines for these policeman/lawbreakers or whoever they are are much stiffer. But of course in R/A's , unless caught by their own, they can get-away with it (and so the others).

DaRuDe - if everybody keeps quiet, nothing will change. Complaining is good, provided not baseless ones.

And in complaining, if it's not true, at least defenders can bring up other facts that people can make informed decisions as to what is true (or at least closer to it).

even private vehicles are doing it especially at R/A with signals those drivers are like bulls who run after red color. Just always be alert when passing R/A.

Yeah, keep posting about the problems that we observe. Word will get around. And awareness is always the 1st step to change. The top management of any organization or company must be made aware. It also depends on how they are informed.

I hear people grumbling about this and that but they don't take any action. They just sit and whine / whinge and feel oppressed, justify their negative emotions, go into a downward spiral and then blow up one fine day, to the detriment of everyone around them.

Education (including information) is the key to that change and so, do keep contributing to it. Best to stick to the facts, as you have done and things will change for the better. As jackmohan2007 said, Doha is still a small town, and I add - with a small town mentality (pros and cons to that). Yes, give the place some time to catch up.

brutus, even if they get away with being fined, they'll get what's coming to them... what goes around comes around... maybe they wont get a ticket or even get fined, but in another way, something will happen to them....
