Chamber of Horrors
I was recently informed that there is a "Pet Shop" in the Al Sadd area of Doha called Animal Kingdom, which sells pet supplies. As I have recently rescued two kittens from the street, I wanted to go along to see what they had in stock. Ordinarily I would pick up anything they need from our veterinary clinic, but thought a pet shop would be a great place to pick up different toys, beds etc. Unfortunately this was not the case. On Friday 22nd August 08 I was utterly appalled at the state of the place. The animals, which are for sale, are kept in squalid conditions. The most abysmal sight was of two dogs locked in a tiny cage together. The cage where the dogs are kept is barely big enough for the dogs to even turn a circle. The bottom of the cage is drenched with urine and scattered with faeces. I dread to think how long they are kept imprisoned each day or if they are ever freed for exercise and play day or night. Animals should not be kept in that sort of condition!! but if people continue to purchase these animals this business will keep trading and the cruelty will continue. If anyone is thinking of caring for a pet, before even considering visiting such a horrible place. I would suggest that you go to QAWS animal rescue centre. They have a lot of dogs and cats needing good homes and the animals are well looked after.
i think that in the Coffee gathering organized by QAWS they entioned that there is no animal protection law in Qatar and they showed some pics as an evidence and those who attended the gathering must rememeber the story Bridget told about the dogs that were shot dead after hunting season becuase they were no good a whole family i think ... and as long as these shops are mking money they will not stop this treatment for animals .. the thing is that not much people are aware of animal rights in here .. so they think that purchasing an animal from a pets shop where it lived miserabley is no problem if they are taking it to a better life .. they don't get the idea that putting the animal in these circumstances is worng at the first place
Take some photos! Send them off to someone. Some authority must be able to do something.

Sounds terible.. I wonder why the "baladiah" allows them to trade.
