City Centre not opening soon...
The Gulf Times has this update on the City Center mall closure :
City Center Doha, which has been closed since June 15, is unlikely to reopen in the next few days, sources said. It is understood that the authorities are working on some major redesigning on the floor plans of the complex on the instructions of the Directorate of the Civil Defence and hence an early reopening is ruled out, they said. As per the revised plans, some major modifications would be made on some of the shops located on the top level of the complex.
And QLer azamat provides this piece of satire on the impact of the closure of the major malls in Qatar :
The tiny state of Qatar has declared a state of emergency due to severe shortage of shopping malls, with officials saying that some residents have been restricted to fortnightly shopping trips.
What are you doing instead of visiting City Center/Villagio?
just felt bored because I can't go alone other mall here in Doha only ccd, hoping it will open soon...
Every cloud has a silver lining. Think of the flood of joy and happiness you will feel when it finally does open :O)
I miss city centre it's very near in my home, everyday I'm watching the mall from my window but sad still close....
If your home is in UAE, you should not worry at all !!
People from over the world go there for shooping !
not savvy about malls or shopping but this was the only time i shop and call it shopping as its time to go home for vacation...n not able to catch up with wat i want
I miss Villaggio too....
Ambulances and fire trucks with flashing lights at front of CC. Not open yet.
Ramadan is the month of glorious excess, overeating and massive consumption in the country's shopping malls. It's like Christmas in the west, a time to spend huge amounts of money and reflect on how much we have eaten and how we will go on a diet once its over....
Why? Is Ramadan a shopping month or is it a month of something else?
So we don't have an opening date? At least by Ramadan they should be up and running..
What a nice summer,... we are in fire in the mall or out ,.. :)
its gona be one more month ... and Land Mark is the next one,
Kiwi Iin Qatar you worshiped at the malosque and found peace. Bless you my child.
Isn't it odd how it is nothing to spend QR1000 in CC and yet I lament being charged QR3 or 4 for parking.
A few weeks ago I even kept my receipt from C4. That gave me 2 hours of bliss knowing that our car was parked free of charge. Imagine my horror when handing the lady in the little box my receipt and her telling me that I was 3 minutes too late and that I now owed QR3.00! F**K! I felt like backing up and then ramming her little box (no jokes about that please). Then my wife put things into perspective for me. "Why sweat the small stuff? Because there is nothing else to sweat about. Life is good. So shut up and pay the nice lady." Knew I married her for a reason.

Surely the Mall itself is the place of worship for a shopper..
Malosque - I like that!!!
Why don't they just makes the malls mosques and call them malosques. It seems like a religion for some people and they can't go a week without their drug....
Window shopping does not happen for free as well.
One needs clean dress, polished shoes, ray ban & atleast something in the stomack before someone steps out of the home !
Everything has a cost !
mall rat..
so no big deal..
Brit, the "national" sport is shopping, the "expat" sport is window shopping...;)
Correction..
"Window" shopping ..
When I arrived two weeks ago, one of the first things that somebody told me is that shopping is the national sport here!
I miss Villaggio :o
In a week's time .. max !
any news when it will open???
Surely the signs of the end of days - for those willing to look :O(
Even though I am not a mall-fan, i am affected by closure of city center and villagio, esecially since in summers , malls are your promenade.
i used to depend on villagio carefour and used to have one or two quick eats during the week at the foodcourt. Not to mention that i used to bank at city center. i also miss it for the movie theatre.
Unbelievable. A few shopping malls close and it's the end of the world, is this what has become of humanity.
It is OK..no life changing news I guess!!
I m going to Hyatt Plaza next door to the previous fire testing mall project!!!!
I'm in bars,at home,or out with friends. Not a mall fan.
I'm glad in a way.It means they're taking things seriously, which can only be a good thing.
