DOHA: The Ministry of Labour has asked companies to inform their workers about their job nature through bulletins or newsletters, prior to handing them jobs. The ministry has stressed that these information should be given in language and manner the workers understand, else, companies will have to face legal actions. This is as part of the ministry’s aim to ensure occupational safety and health conditions at work places and accommodations

The ministry has also indicated that employers cannot cut wages of the workers to supply them with safety equipment and other precautionary measures, a local daily reported. Also the workers have to follow employer’s occupational instructions, which are to protect them from injuries or diseases and use safety equipments and appropriate clothes while at work, the ministry urged.

Labour ministry has asked the companies to follow the instructions. Misnistry inspectors will check on work sites and any violations noticed will be strictly scrutinised and legal actions will be taken. This is part of the ministry’s aim to ensure occupational safety and health conditions at work places and accommodations.

To protect workers from harsh sun and rain, the ministry indicated that shades must be used and workers need to be given all means of precautionary measures to protect from heat in work places, provide drinking water in working places and also well ventilated resting places. During hot summer months, the companies should not let workers work under sun for more than five hours from June 15 to August 31.

It has also stressed that the construction materials used must be fire resistant and buildings should have more exits. Ovens and boilers installed in worksites must have the necessary technical protection, which can prevent smoke/ fire at work site. Also companies should inform workers on the fire hazards, give them needed protection from fire, train in fire fighting apart from installing fire and safety equipments in work sites and installing fire alarm system.

To ensure safety and occupational health conditions, labour ministry will conduct many inspections at worksites.

We must respect and obey these steps always.

SAFETY is the first Priority to all concern irrespective off all jobs.

Its starts the time you awake up and end until you go to sleep!

The workers should know their job responsibilities along with the safe precautions in details before he/she will start the job.

Thank you for your revolutionary action towards the workers and their families as well!

Only until August 31? I think the daytime temperature for the month of September is still intolerable (?) heat temp + the body temp that raises while moving... i guess still not healthy/advisable to work under the sun or during daytime.

also, can they provide shade for laborers while working if it is a road work?

“the companies should not let workers work under sun for more than five hours from June 15 to August 31” .. That means they only have to work a few minutes each day :O)

This is a good thing if will be enforced. What I don't like with some job descriptionis the one that comes to the end wherein, "or be assigned for other works from time to time"!it's good, mine has nothing like that.
