Contesting a Traffic Violation?
Hi Friends on QL,
Can you kindly help me with my problem?
Last week, a colleague of mine saw a traffic violation on MOI website on our company vehicle that I normally use. He saw that the violation is having 7 BLACK POINTS and a 6,000 RIYALS fine with NO DESCRIPTION on it. I checked it saw the date, time and location of the incident. I was shocked for I haven't been on to that place on that given time for I was already in our office sending emails a couple of minutes when that violation happened. I'm quite sure that it was a wrong information because I know that our vehicle was already park on the parking lot when that incident happen. It's even out of way to my workplace. To be honest, I've never been there on that time and day.
I tried to check it on the arabic counterpart website and saw the description on arabic of course. I tried to translate it using GoogleTranslate the result was "Vehicle driver's failure to pass the optical signals, self -". I'm not sure about this but my interpretation is not not using the vehicle's warning or signal light (part of head and tail lights).
My question now is:
1. Was the Qatar Traffic Law Decree No. 19 of 2007 already been ammended and this violation was already added? I tried to check it but this violation was not there.
2. What are my chances of winning when I contest it on the Traffic Department?
3. What are the things that I should do?
By the way, I have requested and printed a copy of our Access Control with Time & Attendance for that day as a proof that I was not there. I have also printed some MS Outlook documents pertaining to the time of the incident.
Your comment and advises will be very much appreciated...
unless the Traffic Police at Madinath Khalifa provided you the actual information and photos of your violation and found out that it is not your plate number (might be with others) you can contest the violation and remove the black points accordingly. But if they can prove to you that such is truly your violation, you have no option but to pay. As simple as that.
u must pay 6000 Qr.. no other way...
My friends camry was fined for "overloading the vehicle in an unsafe manner above 3 meters".
He had to pay the fine finally.
After been here for 8 yrs ICGuru, i kinda of accepted that this is how things in Qatar works. I am just glad dont have to pay QR 6000 ... and not getting 7 points on my license.
It was happened when i wanted to make U turn in airport road, the light not working, I stopped there like over 10 minutes ... then when the road quite i decided to make a u turn.
I guess the police dont want to loose face? or maybe because I am a woman ?
That is kind of funny Novi, you proved your case and they still make you pay. Did they give you a reason why you had to pay QR 500?

I contested mine, the traffic light was not working. In the beginning I got 6000 QR fines and 7 points on my license. I went down to the khalifa madinat station asked for print out. And it is showed the light not working ...
They asked me to speak to the captain, they reduced my fine to QR 500 and they taken off my points.
This fine is for not stopping at a red light. You can go to the traffic office, but your chances of getting out of it are slim. They will actually show you a short video clip of your car running the light and then you can talk to the captain if you wish to further fight your case, but as long as it is your car (and they are usually very accurate) you will be responsible for the fine.
They do make some mistakes on the dates and times (I had one that said 2am but when I went to fight it I found it was keyed wrong and was 2pm), it won't help you avoid the fine but might explain why you think the car was parked and they say you running a red light.
