Delicious Singapore Food has arrived in Doha
Tried the Singapore Seafood Restaurant at Ezdan Tower 3 in West Bay. Wooo...it is sedap, must try la. :)
Delicious dishes that I ate:
- Seafood fried rice (Fried with wok. Heat matters when you fry rice. Frying noise from the tossing of the wok makes me feel like in kopi tiam)
- Duck Rice (Special Dish of the Week)
- Tofu (wah lau, long time no eat liao)
Best is the Sambal Blachan Chilli!! Really authentic and taste damn good with fried rice. But those who can't take spicy food, better not eat too much else u will start to see smoke coming out of your ears. :P
They have less spicy chilli which is similar to chilli that you eat with Hainanese Chicken Rice.
Heard from the restaurant manager that they want to introduce more Singapore dishes but need to wait for imports to come to Doha. Singapore chilli crab, fish head noodle soup, oyster omelette, fish head curry...hope they come soon :)
Today is the last day of Singapore Seafood Restaurant. Goodbye and Thank you for all the good food.
I hope I can find the another Singapore restaurant with the same quality in Doha in the future.
My two colleagues went couple weeks ago and had terrible service, after waiting for ages the rice came out but no other dishes, then rice got taken away and brought back again later. One guy got his food while the other guy had to wait. It all came at different times.
Got the impression they still getting the hang of the restaurant trade. I think the food was ok tho.
I heard they are gonna close shop soon, end of March I think. No more edible chinese food in Qatar after this. Tell me where I can find?
They have only 1 singaporean chef, 1 Nepali Assistant, Joshua the Manager, 2 Singaporean lady serving staff. 1 came from china and other's name is Grace.
Novita - Something is better than nothing right.
I was the only customer there at that time.
1. Fish Head curry - Not available. excuse Fish heads available here are too hard.
2. Penang Laksa - Not available. Chef does not know how to make it.
3. Wontan Mee - Next Life may be.
4. Fried Rice with Sambal blachan. Yammy much better than boring Western Food ;)This is qatar Sambal Blachan not Authentic Malay or Chinese :(
kakka, are u singaporean? or hv u live in singapore before? what do u think about the place. Me still havent got the chance to try the place out.
Which tower is it again?
I Tah Pau Chicken Rice for QR 38 per pack and went home and made soup at home to go with it :)
Their sambal Blachan is no where near the Sambal Blachan served with Nasi Lamak. FYI no Singapore Malay Dish is available. not even fish ball noodles :(
bogster ... hv u been?
Chicken rice with no soup no kick leh..must have then powerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
and sambal belacan....with rice and lemak.....fuyuhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....power........*slurpz*
"Best is the Sambal Blachan Chilli!!"
Seems that you never tried Sambal Blachan in malaysia & singapore before.
Chicken Rice is serving without authentic soup now (Joshua the Manager os SSF dared to say they serve Chicken Rice without Soup every where in Singapore & malaysia. BS we all know Soup is a part Chicken Rice dish everywhere in Hawker Centres :(
Wah Seh....Yummy....but is it Halal?Just curious hor......
Tried the place.. Not impressed. the food is decent, but expensive..
Looking at the bad comments above, I think they are truly undeserving. As a resident of Ezdan too, I'm surprised to see someone missing the coffee shop who used to be there!!! (I'd rather pay QR40 for chicken rice than sandwiches, and now we have 2 coffee shops in Ezdan, 1 in end of Tower 3 & another in Tower 4)
The truth in SE Asia, is that the best food can be found in small family owned shops or in the streets. The focus is all on food & not on decor, etc.
This restaurant is one that serves original SE Asian Chinese food & doesn't adapt their cooking to Western/Middle-Eastern tastes!
I can only liken this situation to the ones in London, where you see the Chinese flocking to Chinese restaurants in Chinatown/Bayswater/Paddington & there's always only a handful of Westerners; and the general perception of Chinese food are the ones you call for Westernized takeaway by numbers & are often full of cornstarch & grease.
If you expect to see items like General Kung Po's chicken, Sweet & Sour Chicken or Chop Suey (which FYI originated from the US to cater to American tastebuds & are not at all Chinese) or you thought the "Chinese" food you eat in City Centre is great, you'll be deeply disappointed.
On the other hand, if you want fresh seafood cooked SE Asian style, this is the best place in Qatar & I dare say in Bahrain, UAE & Oman region as well. Try the hamour (grouper, kerapu or "sek-pan" for you guys in SE Asia) in the fish tank, which is as fresh as you can get.
If your budget's smaller, you can just opt for 1 portion of Crab Meat Fried Rice (real crab meat which are scraped out from the shell & not those synthetic ones) & a portion of Tofu/Roast Chicken. This should be enough for 2 persons (or 3 small Asian persons).
I don't mind paying QR 40.00 for a Chicken Rice once in a while.
You must try.
1. Fish Head curry
2. Penang Laksa
3. Wontan Mee
4. Fried Rice with Sambal blachan. Yammy much better than boring Western Food ;)
I thought the first 3 pics were good...for an on the spot point & shoot.
First 3 items look good...but the quantity seems less!!!
And is that for QR 40?
stress_in_babel ... if that was the affaect on you of his photos...you dont want to see the ones the restaurant uses to advertise here in the building... really...it is beyong horrible.
really... and just by TRYING to eat there and being stopped by the smell of the place... I dont understand how some people actually stay inside. Not many I assure you...
who.am.i... believe me, it doenst get better when the smell in the restaurant is also bad. I also LOVE asian food and thats why i gave a few chances to this restaurant... all equally bad.
Ugghhhh...u made me want to vomittttt....
May God help the people of Palestine!
I love Southeast Asian Cuisine. I might give it a try. The photos are quite alright, I think its the food presentation that needs improvement. (:
cheers,
paul
You really had a time taking pictures just to advertise this Singaporean food huh? well, you did a good job of doing it.. I'm sure everybody here is so excited trying those new dishes.

When I write... I believe... I'm honest....
What is singapore rice pudding?
Sorry, im not working there. Eating good food is my hobby hence my nickname.
Thanks for the compliments on my pics, think the restaurant should use me as their food photographer, agree that their pics are not delicious looking.
Ya, the prices are not cheap but this is Doha. Cant possibly find QR 10 char kway teow.
funny enough , i just spoke with a friend who lived in Ezdan. Both of us used to live in Singapore before we came to Qatar. He said your food is allright ... you price Hainanese Chicken Rice QR 40 ... 20 sing dollar for hainanese chicken rice ??? Dont tell me you have to get the ingredients of hainanese chicken rice from abroad :)
I will give it a try ... QR 40 for hainanese chicken rice, I can be sure the restaurant wont be a place that we will visit regular :)
I agree the photos is awful ... maybe you should hire some professional photgrapher to advertise your restaurant. The food picture is off putting ...
Definatelly Chef works there... why would a customer take such photos???
last time I tried Singapore rice pudding which was not all delicious
OH MY GOD... do you work for them? I live at Ezdan and have been three times to the restaurant always trying to give it a chance... and try the food.
1. the photos they spread around the ezdan buildings are just awful. not inviting at all.
2. walking into the -always almost empty- restaurant the smell is not what would make you hungry for the food. the color and smell of the dishes...are not good. at all.
3. the decoration makes the place look too cheap compared to the gigantic industrial kitchen they built there.
As most residents would say... bad choice to replace a perfectly fine coffee shop - who was always full - for this restaurant.
