diet pills are never healthy and that's why doctors don't prescribe them. they work by increasing your heart rate. or body temperature which can lead to very dangerous situations or even death. at what cost do you want to lose weight. Just accept that there is no secret or magic pill that will take away having to eat healthy and exercise. the problem is that people try to eat healthy and exercise but dont have a clue how to do it correctly and properly. so they fail.

learn how to do thing the right way once and for all. get a meal plan from a certified health expert.

A few years ago i was training with alot of wrestlers and they did crazy crazy unhealthy things to lose weight because they wanted to compete in lighter weight divisions and be the strongest guys there!! Its a trick in sports that require strength/power, Lets say you weigh 75 kilos and you want to compete with the guys who weigh 70kg so you can be stronger than them, so the guys would spend the whole week before drinking gallons of water everyday so much they would be in the toilet all the time, and the human body loves to adapt quickly so your body gets used to urinating frequently because it expects you to keep bringing the water.

Then 48 hours before the weigh-in they would stop eating and drinking completly!! And guess what you body keeps on urinating expecting you to drink alot but your not, so you end up super-dehydrated, so dehydrated you can lose up to 5kg of water weight! Some guys can do even more!! Ofcourse they are very tired and hallucinating and cannot walk even! But they step on the scale and they are 70kg! They are entered in the lighter weight division! Then comes the science of recovery! They buy these baby electrolyte drinks for kids that have diarrhea it rehydrates them and replenishes electrolytes and they have a full 24 hours to slowly drink up and carb load, and then when the competition starts they are back to 75kg but competing in the lighter division!! so they beat everyone there with their extra weight and strength!

DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS BECAUSE IT IS A HARMFUL WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT! but through these experiences i met many people who used different ways to lose weight but all were temporary and left the person tired and unhealthy. Thats why i recomend gradual with realistic goals, its better to lose 3kilos a year and keep it off than to lose 10 kilos in a month and have it back the next month.

I'm lucky i never had to struggle with it because i was always skinny and wanted to gain weight! Any advice?

Changing your home environment is good too...like don't have junk food stacked to the ceiling. I buy alot of fat free foods because I don't taste the difference. If I can taste the difference, i buy the full fat version but don't eat as much. There are alot of foods that I prefer to be either low or fat free such as; salad dressing, strawberry yogurt, peanut butter, diet coke, etc.. I don't drink drinks that have sugar in them either. I don't like the taste of a drink that is very sweet. I like ice tea with splenda. Ok, Im going on and on.

hey ahmed44..do you go to the gym ?

u seem to know a lot about this subject.....i have reached a saturation point with my research.i have upped myself to 80mins of walking...thats my goal but i am happy even with 45 mins.....

crash diet should be out.

my suggestion:

have the foods you like..... if you normally have 2 slices of rich pizza...have only one and half or just one.have more of saladswith the least bit of dressing.your appetite will reduce gradually.control the amount you eat instead of completely removing it from your diet.

start with 10-15mins of walk and gradually increase it to your maximum comfort level.

Fast results = Fast loss of results

The pills work in different ways, some block carbs and fats from the regular diet you eat, while others are thermogenics that raise your body temperature, and stimulants which speed up you metabolism. All can work and give you results, and all can be dangerous to you also. If she needs to make a certain weight quickly then she can use them assuming its an emergancy like making weight for a sports competition or something like that. However is she's doing it for herself then she needs to look at a more natural, long-term perspective.

The keys to weight loss are using a gradual, tolerable approach and expect realistic results. Everyone has a different bodytype and yes some people have it hard when it comes to losing weight, but still she needs to start slowly and not crash into it.

Start with a short walk everyday, and removing one type of snack from her diet and replace it with fruit or vegetable, make that month#1 goal. The second month step it up a little bit by walking faster and going a little further and also adjusting the diet for example drink more water and eliminate soft-drinks.

Jumping in a gym and a crash diet is the best way to quit fast! Gradually is what works!

true munoz and princess.

usually the first few pounds comes off easily....its the remaining 4 or 5 kg that you want to push off that does not come off fast and thats the damper..when u exercise and manage a good diet...but still not losing weight.

my problem....i never see a shift on the scale but the clothes become lose.

like i had said its a long term committment.....get there and then manage it as best as u can.......i feel getting there is a problem....managing it shudnt be a hassle.

need to be careful of medical preparations that can have side effetcs.i prefer the herbal and natural stuff.but you shudnt be dependdant on the pills or shakes to lose the weight...its just for encouragement to go the extra mile....as it can be really depressing when you work so hard but are going no where.

research hard.

Agreed Princess. The stories that I have heard were very graphic. Scary. I was told that the Xenical almost teaches you to not eat any fat because of the "after effects". They're embarassing. I would think that's not good to get down to virtually no fat. So, I can see how it would work for several months and then stop working.

I think some people do need that extra boost(pills). I don't see anything wrong with it if you research what you're going to take and see a doctor.

"seconday effects are terrible" So I have heard too (in graphic detail --yuck). I have never had to take pills exercise (when I do it) is enough for me but some people need that extra push. We my dear friend are lucky (more so you !!!!!)

One of my friends used to take Xenical (and other kind of pills) to reduce weight, in her case the pill worked the first 6 months, she was perfect but after that she started gaining weight and now she can loose it. I am not agree with this pills, the secondary effects are terrible !!

munoz....have not tried actrim since still breast feeding.i have tried herbal life n slimfast a few years back.herbal life did help push off just 2 kgs but thats the weight that would have come off easily with good exercise.the problem with shakes and pills is..they say u can have your normal diet otherwise.....what is the normal diet....the greasy food thats causing the weight gain....so with herbal and slimfast u need to cut fat out of food.it has to be healthy low fat food.if u can count calories then very good...bcos thats what i do.

i still feel right diet and exercise does the trick bcos its a long term committment.

i want to try actrim to just jump start the weight loss.to keep me motivated.actrim is available over the counter with other herbal products...saw it in tylos pharmacy in the mall.it cost 85 riyals...i think and last 10days.

like i mentioned earlier she needs to get the hormonal aspect ruled out...usually its the main culprit for women.

i have heard cinnamon supplements work to curb sugar cravings and manage weight but again long term goal.thats free of side effetcs so shud try it.

I have heard from lots of people that Herbalife works really well as long as you do not eat greasy food. I have never been fat so I would not know, but I know a few guys who swear by it.

ANy of you out there who can relate to my comment that Herbalife works, I think if you can say it works it might be a good way to lose weight. Anyway when compared to pills I think shakes are better and also gives you a chance to forget about meals and still have your required protien, carb and vitamin intake....

I have a few friends who are using Reductil and have found it great. It technically needs to be purchased with a prescription. However, there are quite a few pharmacies that will sell it without the prescription. (I am not endorsing this behavior, but know that it is possible.)

I agree, she should go to the doctor first. Most doctors are going to tell her NOT to take pills. However, that is up to her. She just need to get an all clear from the doctor that it is not your thyroid. Research, research, research. It's so important to know what you're taking.

Hassan...no clue. I'm avoiding the games at all costs.

what to suggest. However, would suggest that she have her thyroid tested before doing anything, the last thing she wants to do is mess that up.

Munozchick - is that drug available here over the counter? Just asking as I heard that it was not and is only avialble by perscription. A friend of mine tries that Xenical ... er no thanks!

I don't usually take anything that's not FDA approved. Reductil is and has a low risk of side effects and it is approved for long term use. Alot of prescription diet pills are only short term.

i have read about actrim...its supposed to be side effects free...bcos they are just fruit and plant extracts...and its available in the pharmacies.

their literature states u can lose upto 4kg a month.with actrim u eat and drink normally with exercise.it shud be taken after meals.4kg for over weight people comes off easily.

Xenical seperates the fats from the foods that you eat. It teaches you to eat healthy foods that are low in fat. Of course, the fats that are seperated have to come out somehow and I'm sure you can guess how they come out. It's not a pretty picture. Some friends of mine were taking this and quit taking it within the month. They did lost some weight but the "accidents" were not worth it I guess. I thought about trying it but after their experiences, I don't think so.

get her to rule out any medical condition first for being overweight...always related to hormones.....u say she has been overweight for a few months...pls get it checked.

if there is a hormonal imbalance u will put on weight....then you put on more weight and the hormonal imbalance keeps on...its a vicious cycle....

exercise n proper diet...which means low fats and meals ateast 5 times a day...but small meals.

how long does she exercise.......u need to really workout max of 80mins to bring about weight loss....new study......

keep a target of 3 months to see some proper weight loss and u have to keep at it.

i dont know of xenical...have heard of actrim which is fruit extracts.

happy heart
