Different interpretations of ID by hotels
By fresh start •
I guess we have got used to the new laws demanding ID to gain access to hotel bars, but it seems different hotels are working to different standards!
A couple of friends of mine turned up at the Ramada last night to the QBBF 'Sun Downers' meeting. Unfortunately, their ID (passports) were with the Ministry of Labour or Immigration, going through the application process for RPs.
They offered both UK and International Driving licence as ID - but no go - they didn't even want to drink any alcohol!
The thing is - other hotels have accepted alternative ID and what is someone supposed to do in this situation when the passport is with the offical depts??
Any thoughts?
Mary,
Where I have gone. No ID but the Qatar ID or a passport. Nothing else.
Fresh, surely. This is just a tug o war between liberals and conservatives and the liberals have given the conservatives this to please them, and most likely avoid worse rules.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the bars are only required to accept a valid passport or your Qatari ID or Qatari driving license as proof of identity (the police can track you using any of these 3).
A UK or International driving license does not allow them to track you - that's the point behind asking for ID (Big Brother IS watching you)

And who the hell goes with his passport to a bar? NOT NORMAL.
The stupid thing is that a drivers license is NOT a valid ID...
Other than that these rules are a major pain in the *** and should apply to Muslims only if the government has major concerns about infidelity.
Nevertheless, lets be happy they did not close bars. These rules will be forgotten by 2010.
apart from 'go elsewhere' 'go home'?
I remember a post from another QLer here talking about how these regulations will affect business from coming here..

passport cards meant for land/boat travel? I have no idea if they would - I'm just speculating here. I believe the EU has this form of passport for travel within the EU and the US has one for North American/Caribbean traveling; I think Canada either has one or is getting one for the same purpose. I wonder if these would be considered a legal ID? It is, after all, a passport. Maybe in conjuction with copies of the regular passport & resident card paperwork?
If anyone wants to baby-sit my kids while I go try this out, I'll be happy to report back on the results! ;-)
passport or Qatar Id or drivig licence is must here in doha hotels and bars..
Hotels are entitled to set the standard as per what type of ID they will accept. If you don't have your passport then you won't gain entry at this particular hotel.
two alternatives - go elsewhere or go home
