Hi, I new in Doha and would appreciate if someone can tell me who I can call to get the satellite dish and card necessary to receive DSTV/MNET, the South African satellite TV channels.
Thanks.
I will move soon to Doha, and my wife is asking me if she could see her favourite italian programs . So I am asking to experts: if I bring my own decoder(Sky) and set a dish to Hotbird or Astra satellites will I see something and ... make her happy ?
My current DSTV has some South African channels... or at least, some Sth African soapies included in the programming... and yes, I am aware it is likely pirate...
I contacted DSTV in Johannesburg with regards their Middle East footprint / broadcast rights. They currently have NO rights for teh Middle East and do not envisage any soon. "Soon" is pretty subjective though. They also indicated to me that they are fully aware of "pirate" providers that are supplying viewers with an illegal service. This is what will be stopped as soon as they have upgraded their satillite software which they say will happen "soon".
I hope that this helps those who are planning on getting into a subscription arrangement with a Middle East provider. One day you are going to switch on to a blank screen despite having paid for your "service"!
Enjoy your recetion and sport on DSTV while it lasts.
it is possible to get dstv/mnet here, i know of a few people who are able to watch it. I believe all you need is the satelite dish and the correct smart card... from what ive heard dstv may be blocking their signal into the middle-east soon...
not sure of where to pick up the card from though.
Unless they broadcast on Arabsat, Nilesat or Hotbird you won't be able to view them here. Those are the only satellites whose footprint cover the region.
