Ebay/Paypal

Just want to share to all.

I placed an order at Ebay using Paypal, and it worked.

It took 7 weeks though for the parcel to arrive doha, coming from USA.

A friend of mine told me that if I know someone from the US Base here, the shipment would be faster, using the base's snail add.

Now I am excited to buy other items at Ebay.

Paypal will debit 1$ or 2$ to verify your bank card. Check your Account balance if you have online banking or wait for the statment to arrive. look for the transaction from Paypal and look for the 4 digit. I don't remember the exact digit but paypal should have informed you on the digit.

Use this 4 digit from your bank statment in your paypal account. Login to your paypal and then type the 4 digit to activate your paypal account

Your Money will be refunded to your account which is either 1$ or 2$ after the activation is completed.

I purchased all of my car parts from ebay or other online car parts websites. it works out great for me since my car parts are not available and it is very expensive to order from the dealer. Some parts i order are deliverd to my Qatar postal address but its takes weeks and some time more then 1 month to deliver. most of my order goes to my U.S shipping address and this is where i get the benefits. its takes less then a week to get the item here in qatar. UPS is ok but not always reliable.

I've heard that Qatar custom duty is 5% on the package. but so far i have not paid any thing.

eldhose407: If you don't have credit/debit card card then you can still buy the pre-paid online credit card from QNB or any other bank. you don't need a bank account for this. this service is available for non customer as well. Atleast 2 or 3 years back i can remember..

Is there any way to credit amount with out any card?. I mean any agent or a person those can credit dollars if we pay riyals in here?

Please give a suggestion. It would be very helpful information.

Thanks in advance.

No customs fees are applied for items under 1000 $ value.

For the taxes, I m not sure but I think I didn't have to pay any taxes for my last order.

For Aramex shipment fees, yes they are so expensive...

Is there any customs fees on the watches or any other items??

Already it's too much tax paying with shop and ship! Shipping inside the US, Taxrates 8.375% for shipping to NY where the box is located, then comes the aramex fees, and then customs.. TOO MUCH!

Hi there,

I recently review one of your posts concerning aramex and international shipment, what I need to know is as most of internet sellers only accepts to deliver to confirmed address, and I asked my bank if they can add my Aramex US mail box as a trusted or secondary address but it is not possible for them to do so, how can I use my aramex us mail box?

I have not suscribed yet to aramex card, can you help me with this issue, and let me know if I can use this card to buy directly in these sites? and if this card address will be my us mail box?

Kindly advice.

DoItTennis.com is refunding me for a failed package delivery. They asked me to set up a PayPal account so they can send me the refund. But now they say that PayPal Qatar is limited to sending money only.

So, DoItTennis.com is now asking me to make inquiries with HSBC Qatar if I can cash a check from the US even if I don't have an account with HSBC Qatar.

Not sure what you mean by refund. Is this about a dispute or what?

Just go for the personal account. A premium account means you need a US-based bank account.

For online sellers that don't ship to Qatar, having an Access USA (myus.com) account is another alternative. They're very efficient and even have a Personal Shopper Service for sites that only accept PayPal (only found out recently that PayPal is now available in Qatar).

WARNING: Avoid dealing with sellers/sites that only ship via USPS (United States Postal Service). Had a very bad experience with DoItTennis.com and now I know the meaning of the term "going postal."

Oh, Better Business Bureau does work. Processed my complaint to them and I finally got a reply from DoItTennis.com.

By the way, I need some advise . . . if I'm getting a refund through PayPal, exactly how does this work? And should I get a Personal or Premium Account?

Very funny.

And finally, if you're interested in an item on eBay and the bidding is hot you can use a software program that enters your maximum bid in the last few seconds (sniping), thereby averting your entry into a bidding war and showing your cards early.

I've been buying online for about 8 years now. I've only ever had 2 problems with sellers not honoring the purchase, once on eBay and once with an online retailer.

I've had other problems that were resolved. I complained to something called the Better Business Bureau in America. You file a complaint and the BBB takes it up with the merchant. Believe me, most merchants don't want a negative BBB rating and the BBB on their case.

As long as you buy from a reputable retailer, such as Amazon, or an eBay seller with a good track record you have nothing to worry about.

Sometimes if I see an item on Amazon I like I check for other sellers that have it and see their rating and price (it's on the Amazon site). I also double check on eBay and then make my choice.

Some sellers are sneaky, they'll sell you a CD for $1.99 and charge $12 for the shipping.

At your end you should make sure your PC is clean, i.e. no viruses, trojans or spyware and always make sure the checkout page when you complete your purchase is secure; it should start with https:// not http:// and should have a locked lock icon near the taskbar.

I find online shopping awesome, except for one drawback, it's almost addictive!

I've been going through those seller ratings and that adds to my hesitancy of buying on line.

Always check the seller rating. Anything in the 99% seller rating should be ok.

Click the "Read Feedback Comments" link and see what buyers have said about the seller. Pay close attention to negative feedback and any responses from the seller.

You can always ask the seller a question about the item you are interested in. I encourage you to do so even if you have nothing to ask. This serves to (a) Show how quick a response you get. A few sellers don't even bother to answer. Walk away from them. (b) show how friendly the seller is; some are almost rude.

Always read the fine print regarding payment and shipping. I came across one seller who wanted to be paid within 2 hours of auction's end and apparently (from the feedback) sent nasty emails to buyers who overstepped the 2-hour cutoff limit.

If the item is precious get shipping insurance. That way the seller can't say I sent it but am not responsible.

Don't assume Power Sellers with thousands of transactions under their belt are trustworthy.

More later.

I've seen guys here buying Rims for their cars :). I guess there would be no problem, the good thing about this card is in that it has limited amount of money which is the amount that you put in. It is not connected to your Bank account so they can steal in case they got your card number.

I don't intend to subscribe to something i would be using for one-time only. Though it would be convenient later on "IF" I would decide to buy something again from the internet but I'm not that comfortable buying online.

Thanks for the offer but I don't want to impose to much on you. I'll send you a PM once I get some things sorted out first.

You will pay only 70 for the card once and you will pay something like that after a year only. They got a list their of things that you can or can't buy. If you want I can make the order on my card and you can pay me later if it is only for once. You can ask someone who got a credit card or visa for that too, I mean make the purchase through Aramex on her\his card. On your address given to you by Aramex, you can PM me with what do you really intend to do. I feel that you are a little confused about getting the card, account or not.

Aramex is much better and faster than the other services and it is really good. All you have to do is nothing but to go to Aramex Office [Located on Salwa Road, on the opposite side to the Mitsubishi Agency].

Ask them that you want a Ship and Shop account, they will give you a form to fill it up. They will ask you if you want the account or also their credit card[Web Surfer]?

If you want only the account it would cost you 128 Q.R, you pay it once and never pay it again. If you want the credit card also [if you don't have a master card or visa or for different issues I will talk about it later] they will ask for more 70 Q.R for the card. You can fill the card at any time with any amount of money. Just go to the office and ask them that you want to put some credit in your card and give them the amount and they will calculate it and charge you in riyals. After 2 days you will find the credit their in your account. You have to renew your card every year by paying 70 Q.R again.

After you complete the registration the following would happen:

after one or two days they will e-mail you with your addresses in the USA and UK. The idea is when you purchase something you would specify those addresses as your current address [which is in fact an Aramex office there that got all of these boxes]. After they got the package there they would forward it to J.F.K airport. From there they would forward it to Dubai and after that to Doha.

They got 2 websites that would help you:

1- www.aramex.com

2- www.issuers.com

The first one 'www.aramex.com' can be used to track your shipment, where is it now? what is in your box? what was shipped and what was not? and a lot more. You can also calculate how much would the package shipment fees would be.

The second one 'www.issuers.com' can be used to check your balance and see what is your current balance? Where did you spent you money and so on.

The benefit of having Aramex Card:

1- You don't get your visa or master involved.

2- There is a limited amount that you put in there, so there is a limit because sometimes we can't control it and keep on buying small stuff until we got very big bills.

3- Billing address is the same as you address, means that you would avoid the problems that some websites would give you because there is no shipment to Qatar. The information on your visa or master card [not Aramex] would show Qatar in the details and you order would be canceled.

4- You don't need to meet some requirements [requested by banks to get Visa according to your salary].

When you receive your package, Aramex would send you a message on your mobile asking you to come and collect your package. The rates go like this:

1- 8 US$ for the first half kilo

2- 5.5 US$ for + half kilo

Don't forget to provide your account number when you decide to put some credit in your credit card and provide them with your box number when you got the package.

Hope that I did not forget something :)

I've bought everything from watches to clothes to paintings and more. Never electronics. First of all there's the difference in voltage, 2nd if the thing doesn't work and you've spent a lot of money then seller can claim it was damaged during shipping. Aramex will only reimburse you up to $100 if you can prove the packing was good and item was damaged during trans-shipment.

The most I've spent is $1000 and the stuff got here no problem. Only 1 incident right at the beginning where the seller disappeared. Now that we have Paypal we are protected. I've made 384 purchases from eBay.

Azzy, glad to answer anything you want but my wife is waiting on me to go out. I hope some other members can answer some questions. Let's continue this later.

Here's the Shop n Ship link.

can u site one auction you did at eBay and how much did you place and what item?

Say I won 3 items (or bought 3 items altogether), can I have them shipped altogether so as I can save money on the shipment cost.

What other items have you bought at eBay.

Any unfortunate events so far, especially for electronics stuff.

thanks again.

I've been using Paypal for my eBay auctions for about a month now. It's very convenient.

You can get an Aramex Shop & Ship mailbox that gives you a US address and a UK address if you want.

That's what I've been using for my Amazon and other online purchases for the past 2 years.

Beats the hell out of Qatar Post.

Only downside is the cost but if you have 2 or 3 shipments arriving together it's worth it and quick.

Interesting you posted this. I was thinking about starting a thread for online shopping tips and hints.
