Electric Clothes Dryer (USA)
By Av8tordude •
I moved all my furniture from the USA to Qatar. I have an electric dryer I would like to used, but not sure how to connect it. It requires 240v, but the dryer has a 2-hot wires, 1-neutral wire, and 1-ground wire. From my understanding, 1-hot wire & 1-neutral wire creates 120v, while the other 1-hot wire & 1-neutral wire creates 120-v, giving a total of 240v. Since Qatar is already 240v, any suggestions (besides calling an electrician) on connecting my dryer?
Thanks
It's more complicated than options a or b above
Two options:
A) Read the manual of the device on how to use it with 240 Volt input.
B) Get the amp rating of the dryer. Go to Arab Round About (National) and purchase step down transformer which will convert 240 to 110 for your dryer.
Do not plugin 110 hot wire into 240 plug. this may damage your dryer.
Parts of the dryer uses 120v, which we do not have here. Call this number and explain to them, they may just add a transformer to get you going 440 763 32 (tell them it is a white-westinghouse, even if it is not)
Buy another dryer. You'll be risking a house fire otherwise, as fire codes are not closely enforced, and many of outlets are not grounded.
