Encouraging students to cheat in exams?

Yesterday, I read this ad on QL: "SPY earpiece skin color BLUETOOTH earphone hidden cheat exam سماعة امتحانات جديدة"!!! Do you think this person is selling a useful gadget to our students? Does this teach students self-reliance and honesty? I think you, seller, should be ashamed of yourself!!! Do you encourage your own children, if you are a parent, to cheat in exams!!??

I recall talking to a Doctor friend a few weeks ago and his main concern was people logging on to medical sites and diagnosing their own illnesses and medicines :O)

And people should always look up on the net on all the details and possible side effects etc before popping any of the meds prescribed to them. Specially when you consider how so many of the doctors always seem to be so "rushed" and give "express" consultations. All in all I say Thank the Lord for the blessing called Google and yes children should not cheat in exams!

Here the problem is that doctors are hand in glove with the management who jointly are responsible for the sales figure in their hospital's dispensary.

In Barwa's Atlas Hospital, a doctor refused me to approve a day of rest if I didn't buy medicines from their hospital. He prescribed me anti-biotics for common cold on the second day with all other medicines costing me some QR 170.00

I had to buy the medicines or else I would lose double the amount as leave without pay.

Yes, I understand. Still, if you know what's wrong and know what needs to be done, they at least can't mess it up too bad!

I'd do that for myself, but my daughter's school constantly requires doctors' prescriptions. In fact she had a bad case of head lice recently and they made me take her to the doctors for that too! I know others have this same issue as well. So sometimes I need to take her over just so I get the "blessed" yellow slip.

Fathimah, I usually look on the net what doctors at home would recommend, as long as it is a pretty common disease that you are able to identify yourself, you can get good info on the internet and can compare that to what the docs here do or recommend.

By FathimaH• 16 Jan 2012 21:17
FathimaH

Very possible. But in that case I wish they'd stick to the potentially less harmful stuff than plying a patient with a multitude of antibiotics for even a common flu.

Sadly, in many developing nations - If the Doctor does not give out medicines or injections, then he/she is not considered a good doctor.

I am wondering Fathimah, trust me, I am!

That's why I go and see my docs when I go home! :)

So in their theory weak faith = weak immune system. And yes over here antibiotics are handed out like paracetamols..even for kids. You gotta wonder at em doctorates!

Fathima, I went to a doc because my immune system was weak and I wanted a B12 shot...I was told to go to church. I kid you not! What I love most are the ones who give you antibiotics for a sore throat..and tell you that because your throat is not infected to take the antibiotics for 2 days only.....

Judging by some very quack like docs I've seen around here Nom, I'm not surprised. My "fav" being this lady doctor who some years back told me I was too young(at past 25 years of age) to get breast cancer!!

Once I asked a friend of mine if he had prepared himself for the fluid mechanics exam, that used to be one of the most dull subjects in our 2nd and 3rd year courses.

He showed me some chits containing some minute alphabets and numbers, apparently all formulae of theories and one index chit to identify the chits easily!! For example, if he had to copy any formula of chapter 2, he would read the index which would direct him to the socks or back of the collar, whatever be the case..lol

Fathima, not to scare you more, but there were doctors that turned out NOT to be doctors....and they were practicing...so you can only imagine what other certificates etc. are fake.

By FathimaH• 16 Jan 2012 20:08
FathimaH

Now you are scaring me. And here I thought cheating starts and ends before high school. Back in Sri Lanka it was actually close to impossible for students to cheat by their A/Levels. But then again what would I know? My mom pretty much scared us stiff as youngsters with horror stories(possibly made up!) that made us never cheat in ANY exams!

Fathima, In the engineering college, we were under the impression that it was impossible to do well without cheating...so, even the most studious guys also brought formulae written on the set-squares, Tees and drawing boards.

By FathimaH• 16 Jan 2012 19:33

I doubt it. Such cheats can only go so far in life before they meet their Waterloo. I want to believe they will get caught and stopped before they even get anywhere close to a scholarship.

Its just an ear piece...how does the examinee's friend know what is to be dictated?? Unless a wireless transmitter is implanted somewhere under the skin.

but yes I'm sure these sellers will find plenty of more than willing customers, even for a hefty price!

Well a new gadget, 4 cheating, it is not gonna change anything after all teachers are giving papers at a price...so just another way would u not say...lol

Definitely encourages cheating. I am confused though. An ear piece is a one way thing. How do you communicate with the person at the other end ?

By ingeniero• 16 Jan 2012 17:05

Seller is selling the product, so its a business idea, a selling slogan what ever you say it..

Now its duty of parents to teach their children to stay away from such things. as "neo" said about cigarettes and alcohol, this is another example

fred2265

Like many things, this has legitimate uses as well, the seller is just being exploitative by naming the cheating usage in his advertisment.

1. Does this person who made "SPY earpiece skin color BLUETOOTH earphone hidden cheat exam سماعة امتحانات جديدة" like some one to cheat him/her?

2. Does this person who made "SPY earpiece skin color BLUETOOTH earphone hidden cheat exam سماعة امتحانات جديدة" like some one to cheat his/her family?

A dead brain or mind will support such idease, a dead brain or mind is like a stone or a wall, if you speak all day to the stone the stone will never reply to you.

P_Moidu: A friend of mine was sacked from his job as a teacher at Qatar Unvi cuz he didn't allow some elite kid extra marks to help him on his failed paper.

I teach at a university in Qatar and trust me students are very inventive when it comes to cheating. However, they do not get very far.

This is very similar to selling cigarettes and alcohol in terms of ethics. It may be bad to use but there is still good demand for it. Why not make use of that opportunity to make money out of it. If you don't surely someone else will. Its your duty as a parent to teach your children good morals. You cannot control the world to fit their benefits, thats not realistic.
