faulty camera at intersection

TweetyBird
By TweetyBird

I just went through an intersection by Villagio - the light was green with cars in front of me and cars behind me and the camera flashed which I assume means we are all going to get a violation.   I will be so mad if I get a 10,000 riyal fine for going through a green light.  Is it possible to fight it?

We should all have fines after our QL convoy to the beach

Well! after paying 1,200 fines in 4 violations last year, I learned my lesson not to over speed on Salwa Road, Al Waab Road and any other main road that has radars! And I am also aware, if there are any portable ones on the side road!

Yellow is still okey they only flash when you move after it turns red accross the white line. I just saw proof of that this evening when the police car's siren is on and the funny thing is that he slow down after he cross the line, to see if there are any cars crossing before he went over the red light and I saw the flash just when he cross the white lines. So if any of you stop make sure you're inside the white line.

No have never been fined for going through a light while it is yellow on the way to red.  I have never had a violation at all.  Tonight is the first time I have ever seen a camera flash.

And were you fined? Say no or not yet? or else, i will be visiting the gov site every minute of the day...

thatguy - I know what you mean - I have heard instances of people reporting another driver for making a rude hand gesture and said driver was stopped at immigration at the airport.  No proof needed on the part of the guy making the allegation and a lot of trouble for the guy who was accused.  That has always bothered me because I was raised where you are innocent until PROVEN guilty.

Mariam - I've done that before too and worried about it.  But this time I was just moving with the other traffic around me so I am hoping that the others here are right - that it caught a speeder who was ahead of the rest of us.

so what if you recieve a ticket that states some one reported you for not properly parking...

yet the only proof the police have is some one reported the license plate number... even though i was never at the corniche were they say the incident happened...

i have already paid for this ticket... but what am i supposed to do if this happens again... because as a person who trys to obey the law... i felt i was being abused by the law and i am curious what to do in such a situation

in america we would just show up for the court date... and say i am not guilty then the police would have to have physical evidence ie a photograph or something other than a random citizens word...

The newly set-up radars can determine who the culprit is, it senses by the speed and it takes the cars number and the driver with some cameras , even the speed will be recorded and the time. When you go to pay the fine, they will show you the picture of your car with the number and time. Amazing, you can't deny! I was at the Al Saad Traffic light this afternoon and when the yellow flashed up, it will be late for me to stop so i go on in 40 speed, and nothing flashed, but still i feel worried about it.

Thanks ohbee wan - my fingers are crossed that it flashed at someone speeding.  It just caught me by surprise as I was just entering the intersection but there was a car that was a head of me that could have been speeding through it.  I hate to wish something bad on someone but boy do I hope he was speeding and that was the flash.

Thanks Mystica!  Keep giving me something to be hopeful for.  I really do hope it was for the other side or for someone speeding.

just keep in mind that it doesn't mean that someone beat the red light if the camera's at a trffic signal flashes. it does also flashes if someone is over the speed limit specifically those newly installed ones.

i for one have experienced this (thrice already) while going to villagio mall. another car was travelling way above the speed limit and the camera at the traffic signal did flash even if it's on a green light. so i came to conclusion that the newly installed cammeras at the traffic signal do also measures speed of the vehicles passing by. so if you know you're within the speed limit and you did not beat the red light, that only means your safe :)

If the light is green the flash goes to the other side of the road as someone from that side probably moved. now don't lose sleep over it!

Novi -  Well if I end of getting a violation from a faulty camera then I will have to agree with you - it sucks.  And I will never hear the end of it from my hubby.  Good thing was he was in the car with me so he at least knows the light really was green.  Thank goodness for small blessings I guess.

the problem is tweety ... if you dont pay up they wont register your car. You have to go to the traffic police in madina to ask for the proove.

and if you dont register your car for over a month you have to pay another QR 1500 fines.

sucks ...

Vegas - I would like to think if it malfunctioned that they would figure it out but this is Doha and you know how things work around here sometimes.

the flash is very accurate and the camera shutter is very speedy so can catch the violating car easily

Whenever I saw a flash makes me nervous too!  even there's no radars sometimes it's actually some shiny buildings got hit by the sun light!

So far it says there are no violations.  But I won't rest easy for at least a week.  It's not just the fine - it's the points as well.  There must have been at least seven cars passing through that intersection because the light turned green and we all got zapped.

i will tell u something this camera also for speed so if anyone of you was exceeding 80 he was caught
