DOHA: The Friends of American School of Doha (ASD) will commence its Chamber Music Series for 2009 and 2010 with ‘A Concise History of American Music’ concert later this month at the ASD Fine Arts Theater.
“On behalf of everyone at the American School of Doha, and music lovers across the country, I am delighted to announce the launch of this new season of musical performances,” said Edwin Ladd, ASD Director, during the press meet yesterday.
Sponsored by IBQ, the concert series will feature not only Qatar-based musical artistes but also world-class talents from around the world.
“IBQ’s sponsorship enables us to include not only locally-based musicians but also major talents from across the globe offering a great opportunity for music lovers here to experience a variety of world-class music up close and personal,” said Ladd.
The inaugural performance this season will see two world-renowned singers from Vienna, Austria perform songs by famous American composers of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The series of seven classical music concerts which runs from October 2009 till May 2010 incorporates classical, opera, operetta and traditional folk music.
“Drawing upon the finest local musicians and international guest performers, the Friends of the American School of Doha Chamber Music Series will significantly enhance the country’s already strong reputation for cultural excellence. We are very grateful to IBQ for their support of this event,”said Ladd.
