A Saudi celebrity cleric who allegedly raped and murdered his five-year-old daughter has claimed he injured her because he doubted she was a virgin.
Lama al-Ghamdi died in October having suffered multiple injuries including a crushed skull, severe burns, broken ribs and fractured left arm as well as extensive bruising.
Fayhan al-Ghamdi admitted using a cane and cables to inflict the horrific injuries after doubting his daughter’s virginity, according to the campaign group Women to Drive.
After the case attracted international attention, members of the Saudi Arabia's Royal Family are now believed to have blocked al-Ghamdi's release and ensured that a stronger sentence is upheld.
Women to Drive said the preacher, a regular guest on Muslim television networks, had his daughter checked up by a medic after doubting her virginity.
It has been alleged that she was repeatedly raped and had been burned to cover up the injuries she had sustained from the horrific sexual abuse.
Yesterday Sayeda Hamadari, the girl’s mother, who is divorced from the cleric, said she wanted her ex-husband to be put to death, reported The Times.
'I want him killed. I want the full Islamic punishment. This is God’s law,' she said yesterday.
Lama suffered multiple injuries including a crushed skull, broken ribs and back, bruising and burns. She had been raped repeatedly and died of her injuries in October
'I am in constant pain when I think of what he did to my daughter. I cannot bear to think of it. I have been reading the Koran to seek some comfort. Only God knows what I am going through.'
She is divorced from al-Ghamdi who remarried and has two more children, and claims the torture happened whilst Lama was in her father’s care in March last year.
It was previously reported that Fayhan al-Ghamdi had been released after paying ‘blood money’ to Lama’s mother.
Albawaba News reported the judge as saying: 'Blood money and the time the defendant had served in prison since Lama's death suffices as punishment.'
But the Saudi Justice Ministry responded saying that the cleric was still in prison and that the case was continuing.
The death penalty is thought to be unlikely in this case.
Lama’s stepmother is appearing as a witness to the murder at another hearing tomorrow according to Ms Hamadari.
Saudi preacher Fayhan Ghamd was given a £31,000 fine despite admitting using a cable and a cane to beat his daughter
‘My dear child is dead, and all I want now is justice so I can close my eyes and know she didn't die in vain,’ Sayeda Hamadari told CNN, adding that her daughter was ‘brutally tortured in the most shocking ways.’
‘The state needs to even consider taking his two children from him and his wife away because I fear for their lives,’ she added.
'These are not some unfounded accusations, but everything is based on the medical examination by the hospital and the team of physicians who treated Lama when she was first admitted.'
Randa al-Kaleeb, a social worker from the hospital where Lama was admitted, said the girl's back was broken and that she had been repeatedly raped and her injuries burned.
Activists say under Islamic laws a father cannot be executed for murdering his children.
Husbands can also not be executed for murdering their wives, the group say.
Three Saudi activists, including Manal al-Sharif, who started the women's right to drive campaign, have raised objections to the case as it highlights the urgent need for legislation to protect women and children from domestic abuse.
Manal al-Sharif has launched a campaign on Twitter using the hashtag 'Ana Lama', which is translated as I am Lama, calling for an improvement on the judicial treatment of women and children.
Local reports say public anger in Saudi Arabia is also growing and authorities have said they will create a 24-hour hotline to take calls about child abuse.

This is really sad... and most probably he will get away with it...
Our noble prophet Mohammed (AS) prophesied 1400 years ago that there would come a time by the end of time when so-called Islamic scholars would be the worst beings under the sun, out of their mouths would fitnahs come out.
Yet again, another prophecy come true.
And they say Islam is not the truth...
It's also said that ..............fill in the blanks
R we humans?
Doesn't the father automatically get custody in the event that the wife re-marries?
@MM
Not in Qatar...speaking from personal family experience
He's their father. That pretty much guarantees custody over here.
I personally wonder how he gained custody with such a bad record!!!!!
I think it's the end of a long week and my comprehension skills have already left for the weekend!
I saw the Defense was trying to use the excuse that the father was whacked out on Tramadol so wasn't really responsible. Considering how many young boys in the Gulf are addicted to that drug, and they manage to not murder their children, it hardly seems like much of an excuse. And the court I guess agreed.
Is it just a weird coincidence that both these cases involve a divorced father and an evil stepmother? Is this father's taking out their frustration against their ex-wives by proxy, or am I reading too much in to it?
In the English papers they said the pair had been sentenced to a couple of years for illegal relations BEFORE the murder trail even started, so they weren't considered married.
Wadeema's mother is not being jailed Fubar. Only her father's girlfriend, Alanood, who was living with the father and the two girls and who participated in the torture. She recently gave birth to a son.
@ Fubar...basically yes...they were referring to the GF...by law when u father a child with any lady and share an address she becomes ur common law wife...and in a sense a step mother to the daughters....they wouldn't want to print a gf in arabic newspapers because that would mean a loser by GCC standards "somehow" gained custody over his daughters....especially with previous strikes and noted drug and alcohol abuse
@MM...I have relatives working in that system....it's very similar to Dhreima (a.k.a Qatar Orphan Fooundation) which we have here lead by her highness sheikha moza
This is why Mimi and I are confused, because I thought I'd read the mother was being jailed too. Which would mean:
Dad - executed
Mother - jailed
Girlfriend - jailed
Maybe it's a bad translation, and when they say mother they mean girlfriend?
@ Fubar
let me give names to paint the picture better....Hamad Al-Shirawi (29) fathered 2 daughters Wdeema and Meera....he divorced his wife...gained custody over his daughters, and he has now taken a Girlfriend named Alanood (27) with whom he had fathered a son
Yup Fubar. Super Cool, I hope that's the case, because from the way the papers are stating it he's going to be raised in prison with the mother.
I'm sure he has relatives both parents being locals....but if he doesn't, they do have a system like dreama in Dubai which takes care of orphans....education, health care, job placement, support, etc etc
Ohh, so the mother was the girlfriend?
So they were an unwed couple?
I must also add, that the father was reportedly a druggie...aged 29 and the girlfriend is 27...they both shaved her head, spilled hot water on her and kicked her around before locking her in the bathroom
She is a girlfriend BUT she is also the mother of his son, AND she has been given a life sentence. Who is going to raise the little boy?
@MM
In Arabic it was reported that the other lady is only a "Girlfriend" he was cohbiting with unlawfully...and the mother of the daughters is still alive, just separated
The mother of his son has been given a life sentence for her role in the torture of the two girls. Where will that baby be raised? The way the papers are stating it, he'll be raised in prison, surely that's abuse as well?
@ Fubar
BOTH mothers are alive....and BOTH are divorcees who lost the custody battle
Deleted - Super Cool just answered my question
^^^^
the mother is still alive....she'll be granted custody
What I want to know in the Wadeema case, and what none of the papers I've looked at are reporting, is what's happening to Wadeema's half brother? Surely they're not going to let the child be raised in prison?
Glad to know at least the world will be rid of one monster soon... May God grant the most beautiful place in paradise to the murdered young girl, and much ease and cure to the little one who survived. Truly her ordeal must be so great, having to live through the pain and disability.
Exactly, Fatimah. I was careful not to say that it is, or isn't, a religious law, because I don't know, and there seems to be disagreement within the Muslim community in Saudi.
However... in the UAE, it is obviously a clearer state of affairs. I see today that an Emirati man has been sentenced to death for torturing his two daughters, one of whom died as a result of his horrific acts:
http://www.saudigazette.com.sa/index.cfm?method=home.regcon&contentid=20130214153153
Except this is NOT Shariah law that claims one cannot be put to death for killing their wife or kids, it's Saudi Law. If it's Shariah law then one needs to state the hadith or Quranic ayah pertaining to this, which there isn't.
But of course most non Muslims will not be aware of the difference between Shariah law and country laws when certain countries claim to be applying shariah laws.
And whilst I am against illegal rallies and violent protests, I believe campaigns like the ones led by these heroic ladies should be utilized by any law abiding, upright citizen when great crimes like this go unpunished or rather barely punished. Thus yes I agree Muslims the world over should voice out their contempt and condemning of the penalty.
The scandal isn't so much what he did - he was arrested and 'punished' after killing his daughter.
The scandal, at least to me and many I know, is that until now he was spared the punishment of death because, apparently, within the religious views of some people, the death penalty isn't applicable when you kill your own daughter.
And, sorry to say, that IS because of religion.
The murder was bad. Sickos rape and kill their daughters in every country of the world, sadly. But the father being released from jail after paying some money IS the scandal most people find sickening.
@MN
Cuz this is not a religious crime...this is a "CRIME"...end of story...He didn't do it BECAUSE he's muslim. Would Christians around the world rally up if a a Christian killed his daughter???? Chriminals do exist, their faith, background, race, and culture has got NOTHING to do with it
Ease up man!!! ur trying to plug Islam in every chance u get!!???
I always knew a Judge's job was the toughest in this world. Not so for this case! You don't even need a 'Learned Fellow' to judge this monstrous beast.Does there really exist (any) Judge in Saudi? RIP Lama...
Sincerelyurs - More horrific than his crime is the judicial systems ruling that even dreams to set him free!
What goes around comes back around, karma. He will get punished for all he did the poor girl? How can he even doubt virginity for 5yr old?? I mean really. Worse he killed her like an animal. It just a matter of time
I cant even understand ...raping a minor girl than burning her private parts...breaking her head and fracturing her arm.I m so much in shock and trauma...how can he do this?
I m so shocked...i m having small 5 years old daughter too..I cant undertand the girls of this age are so fragile and young....I mean my hands are shaking badly...Who are the morons here laughing on this? IS IT A JOKE>...can u feel the pain the poor girl must have gone through???? I m not able to breath...stop this nonsnse now...feel the pain for the girl please...
This cleric should be made an example. He should be skinned alive and his hide should be displayed in Riyadh Museum of Contemporary Arts.
No justice in Saudi, it is just a medieval prison for those unfortunate to be born there or decide to work there.
If this dreadful crime had been commited by a lower class of person, ie:- housemaid, houseboy, local nobody, Joe Bloggs etc,.......Then he would have had his head chopped off by now.....But......This guy is of higher class, so he will get a slap on the wrist and be back on the "telly", spouting his nonsense......Or......He could come over to the UK, and be well looked after.
When will this guys out there stop doing all this evil and devlish things. No wonder a lot of Asian countries dont even want to send their workers to that place. The authorities in that place are to be fully blamed for all this criminal things that have been going on out there as they just standby and watch the brutality going on and on
I did read somewhere that the mother has alleged she was indeed an accomplice or at least covered up her man's sickening past time. If she was indeed, then I pray she gets her dues as well. Being the mother of two children herself, it would be frightful to imagine her supporting all this!
In the old days a political campaign would take rallies and protests and media appearances, and it was easy for governments to ignore them.
Nowadays a motivated person with a Twitter following and a memorable hashtag can achieve all sorts of things.
It's going to get harder and harder for the Saudis to keep their women quietly in the home now.
The women behind it deserve all the kudos for their efforts at bringing about some kind of justice. Yes perhaps soon we may see women gaining their rights in other areas as well, judging by the success of this case. All the women need to do is patient and strong in their perseverance. And In Sha Allah they will soon get the desired results.
I wonder the same thing as well Fatima.
Manal is quite the lady, fubar, not many people have her bravery. She's really been a driving force to get this story international attention.
I was wondering the exact same thing Fatima. All we are told is she is appearing as a 'witness'.
I wonder too if Manal Al Sharif, one of the women behind this whole campaign, was motivated or not by her arrest back in 2011 for driving a car. Has that strengthened her resolve to question the lack of rights for women in Saudi?
He better watch his back...literally!
My heart truly aches for the mom though. After all the hell she endured being married to the demon and then finally getting divorced from him, she has to now live through every mother's worst nightmare thanks to him.
Looking forward to heating the current wife's testimony. Was she or was she not an accomplice is the question many people have. Hope the answer will become evident once she has her say.
I don't know what it's like in Saudi jails, but as Miss Mimi says, in the western jails, urban legend always had it that the criminals inside take a pretty dim view of rapists and kiddy fiddlers.
They might get a light sentence from a judge, but they get a harsh one from their inmates.
I said what?? Everyone knows how much I condemned this beast and wished he get's the death penalty. Any reason then why you chose to slander me in this manner claiming I said it's ok? As far as I am certain I have to date not done you any wrong for you to refer to me the way you did.
TFS Miss M: truly glad to see a beacon of light finally. Perhaps this evil man will get his dues.. Though I really doubt any court on earth can make him ever taste the torment his victim endured.
Maybe not a court FatimaH, but I bet you there's some big burly men with a penchant for buggery in Saudi prison who could make him understand.
EWW!
Good news from Saudi..He should be killed...
Why don't we just welcome the positive things we hear, rather than looking for faults with religion?
TFS Miss Mimi......
It might run in the family.
The gay prince's uncle, Prince Abdullah bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, asked Eamonn O'Keefe, a famous footbeller, to stay in Saudi as his "gay lover". O'Keefe declined and fled the country.
Football player with benefits?
Maybe curious !
friends with benefits??
We'll never know if he's gay.
We just do know that he hired gay male prostitutes and visited gay se x venues.
But you know, perhaps he's straight, and just likes being around gay guys. As friends.
ok if u think ur smart tell us how did dailymail come to know
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you.
n how did dailymail know hahaha
hmmm from the Dailymail? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1321860/Gay-Saudi-prince-pictured-happily-manservant-beat-death.html
Says Saudi Arabian gay prince beats his manservant to death!
ahem! ya how did u get to knw :P
how did u know he is gay u naughty boy
Fubar: Like the Gay Saudi prince who beat his manservant (also gay lover) to death. supposed to be jailed for life with a minimum term of 20 years, but suddenly gets sent home!
checking a 5 year old for virginty. moron!
i like him jailed in solitary confinement for rest of his life in a cell which is as big as his brains.
when a group of people carryout anti social activities they are termed as terrorists.. when a country does the same its called war u moron!! not terrorism
It's a good outcome, but one achieved by the Royal Family stepping in and overruling the judge, which isn't a good precedent.
What if the reverse had happens - a Saudi royal is convicted of a crime and the Royal Family steps in to overturn the sentence?
this is about the Saudi Gov't finally doing one right move. The case is incidental!
Forget it MM these guys pull every topic into religion.
fubar: sweet!
This is not about Israel or religion! It's about justice for an abused girl!
nice tit for tat false 9/11 tit in iraq and tat in afghanistan wat a policy
The Independent is also reporting on the story.
They too seem to be carrying the line that he's looking at life in prison since apparently the death penalty doesn't apply when fathers kill wives or children.
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/he-will-stay-in-prison-for-a-long-time-saudi-royal-family-intervenes-in-case-of-celebrity-preacher-released-after-paying-blood-money-despite-raping-and-torturing-daughter-to-death-8491812.html
Gaza based terrorists keep firing missiles into Israel.
Israel fires back. Tit for tat!
I like the statement of petjack100.
People who support terrorists are also terrorists.
what a world we live in! Isrel is openly conducting terrorist activities, and recently i read a headline "the governemnt of Isrel has given green light for more settlements".
now whos supporting these terrorists?? America and most of the nations in the world. So all these nations are also to be tagged as "Terrorists", also the people who appoint such a government are also "Terrorists" :)
Religion does not come into such atrocities, be it Child sex scandal or Raping and killing of a 5yr old. All this is child abuse. The people who do this are monsters and they follow satanic religion.
Why do people in QL always have to bring religion into everything?
Good that Saudi is taking a stand on it as this man(monster)deserves a punishment where he is tortured every second of his life until he begs for his death.
u r always at war mimi so i guess u shld open
that could be your reason for the post! but stupids see it in the same stupid angle
Because this article isn't about killing your parents Babu. If you would like to discuss that, start another thread.
why arent u at war with parents abusers ? who carry an automatic rifle and kill their own parents
Who am I at war with? Child abusers? Yup I guess I am.
britexpat dont dispute he is yet to confirm if santa exist in the bible
I know he is Saudi. I was disputing the fact that he is a cleric..
al-Ghamdi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Ghamdial-Ghamdi (Arabic: الغامدي, al-Ghāmdī, also transliterated as Alghamdi, ... is an Arabic family name denoting a member of the Ghamd tribe of Saudi Arabia.
Brity: He's Saudi.
no Mimi, these people think that u r at war with them.. be careful, they might come and chop u too
The Daily Mail is confusing Islamic Law with Saudi Law. That's the Daily Fail for you.
dailymail jokes ? again

This isn't a Muslim issue. It has nothing to do with Islam. This is child abuse, and Saudi's poor laws for protecting abused children.
QDCLover : rape a 5 yr old and break her skull and skip the head chopping episode by giving blood money.
not a saudi cleric ha ha ha foolish media foolish ppl hahaha
We went through this discussion last time. He is NOT a Saudi cleric. He came on TV because he supposedly recovered from drug abuse and told his story of self discovery.
Draw some cartoons and people end up dead. Make an amauter video and people end up dead. Strange world we live in.
people who support criminals are also criminals and who support terrorists are also terrorists..
This monster has to be executed! There's no rule in Sharia that a Father / Husband canot be executed.
Rule is simple, as long as its proven that HE IS THE KILLER, and unless the affected party(the girls mother) accepts DIYA and excuse, he has to be EXECUTED!
@ Marco Nandoz - Keep your stupid racial comments away from this. These kinds of killing happens in all parts of the world, and i doubt that killer would receive this harsh punishment in any other law! so just shush!
no i say its ok when done by a pope
fathima and babu says its okay coz its done by a muslim
Brit/MM : Outrage against this cleric and protests should fill the streets or is the life of an inoocent 5 yrs old girl of no value to the Muslim world? Instead there's a payoff and there is silence from the Islamic world.
Saudi is not representative of all Muslims
nor is
Pope representative of all Christians
Dude, it wasn't Pope, Saudi Cleric! Do they really love kids??? hahahaha
200 kids doha estate
Pope & 5 year old? what was that?
MN this isn't really a Muslim issue, it's a Saudi issue, and the Saudi public (at least vocal women's groups) are speaking up.
but the pope news was much more funnier
You really do draw some absurd parallels. Do you really expect muslims all over the world to rise up because of a case in Saudi ?
Those who can have voiced their disgust and taken to using different mediums. this is probably why the government has acted.
You know what’s funny about this news ?A little five year old innocent girl is raped and killed by her Muslim cleric father and Muslims worldwide do absolutely nothing. But, if a non-muslim makes a comment or draws a cartoon everybody goes ape smashing attacking foreigners and burning embassies.
May her soul Rest In Peace
Turbohampster, I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and say that they would have. At the end of the day, the monsters still in prison and hotlines are being set up for abused children, PLUS PLUS!
Point is would they have stepped in if it wasn't in the papers?
I.e are they only doing it to save face in front of the international press?
I don't agree that with death sentence either. He should be stuck in prison and reminded every day what he did. And as QDC said hopefully some will check on his virginity
see how ppl got inspired by that Pope
I know UK, this actually might be the first instance of decent reporting by the Daily Fail, if it's true.
Hopefully he's kept in prison for the rest of his miserable life.
I wonder why mother accepted blood money, incist shouild be hang to death.
No we do not want him killed, we want life imprisonment, so he can learn every day what it is liked to be picked on by people bigger than you.
Maybe one of the big prisoners can check his anal virginity.
i thought miss mimi left Doha.... Is she in Saudi now ?
Very good move by the child's mother ….finally some justice…
We all want him killed!! Any other punishment is too less for him..
So when he's gonna get his head cut off?
Good Reporting from DM..:)
