GPS Recievers and GPS Games in Qatar
How many people in Qatar have a GPS? How often do we use it? How many people are looking for something to do as a family? Any time of the year.
There is an exciting sport that the entire family can enjoy. It is called Geocaching. It is a treasue hunt with your GPS. It is extremely addictive, great fun, easy to do and inexpensive - especially if you already have a GPS. It can be done 24/7 and can be done all over the world as well.
Details of the sport can be got at http://www.geocaching.com
Frequently asked questions - FAQ - can be found at http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=8749
Details of what is hidden in Qatar can be found at http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?country_id=160&x=4&y=7
If anybody would like to discuss the sport with me directly feel free to PMme for more information.

"To be or not to be - that is the question"
Sanjeev - yes, caches being "muggled" [stolen] is a general problem, not only in Qatar but all over the world. I have had no less than 5 of mine muggled already!
The Al Khor Coinbox cache has been replaced already. The Pirates of Al Wakra was archived in about September last year due to the building falling down that it was placed in. If you log onto the geocaching.com page now you will find over 60 caches in Qatar now. They are spread all over the country so I am sure you will find some that appeal to you.
Please PM me if you want more information or would like to chat about Geocaching in general. I am more than willing to assist anybody that wants to get involved in the sport / hobby.

...The Oracle...
Yes this is good indeed. I found
a few geocache's but on my second visit i was sad to find somebody had
removed the whole lot rather than sticking to the rules of taking
something and placing something. The last one i found missing was the
Alkhor coin box.......
The geocache in wakra by the pirates team is not accessible as the area is restricted for outsiders.
if you guys have any tips pls post
Sanjeev
Nobita - have you tried Geocaching yet? It really is great. PM me if you need any more information or assistance. As for the confluencing - you did the same as me - turned around at the sign! Just not worth it.

I turned back by the sign, I did not want to take the risk.
Yes I have, but the problem with Qatar is there is only ONE confluence point in the country and that one is in a restricted military area. You can get there by ignoring the signs, but I am not prepared to be arrested for that!
Good luck

Anyone tries the www.confluence.org yet ?
Have a look at the link http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?country_id=160&x=4&y=7 and you will be able to see where the caches are located in Qatar.
Reading through the descriptions only 1 is located near an airport. Should you wish to avoid it just don't visit the area to look for it. There are many others around that will test your GPS skills.
It really is great fun. Read through the website http://www.geocaching.com in order to get a better feel for the sport. Register on the site and you are "in business"! You will not be sorry and you will get hooked very easily.
Happy caching and hopefully tonymontana and WhoMe will join in too.

I'm game for t geocoaching as long is not near any airport, refineries, or military or government building. Cops and paramilitary people have a tendency to get a little bit nervous, If they spot someone walking around with a GPS in their hands.

I love geocoaching although i did not do it here yet! I use my GPS in the dunes for finding again the nice places!
But geocoaching is a lot of fun!
this is really cool... sa_japie
