A gud catch I like it...
MUMBAI: The CCTV camera acted spy at Mumbai airport on Monday and landed a passenger in cops' net after he stole another flier's laptop.
The accused, 50-year-old Jayant Roy, had almost managed to escape with the loot as he flew out of Mumbai by a Kingfisher Mumbai-Patna-Ranchi flight. But his game was up as he waited in transit at Patna.
Around 10 am, an Air India passenger, Shashank Gang, who was on his way to Jodhpur, forgot to collect his laptop after he put it on X-ray for security check at terminal 1A. However, soon after, he realised his mistake and returned to fetch it but could not find it anywhere. Running late, Gang asked one of his relatives to follow up the matter with CISF officials; his nephew lodged a complaint with the security officials.
As the officials went through the CCTV footage of the security hold area, they spotted Roy walking away with two laptops, when he should have been carrying only one as his cabin baggage. "Roy put his laptop on X-ray and collected it after the screening. At the same time, he noticed another laptop lying there unclaimed. Roy started heading for the lobby but returned, as if in a hurry, took the other laptop and walked away," a senior security official said. "He boarded the flight immediately."
After Roy was identified, grabs of the CCTV footage were mailed to Patna airport officials and Kingfisher staffers and they were instructed to detain him as soon as he deplaned. "However, the airport employees could not find Roy among those who disembarked at Patna. So, the airline officials were sent to check on board and Roy was found sitting inside, waiting for the flight to take off for Ranchi," an official said. "He denied having two laptops on him. However, after searching his cabin bag, his laptop was found buried under a heap of clothes."
