Handbags - serious question for the ladies

leelah
By leelah

Just been arguing with the hubby.. would like your opinion on the matter..

When chosing handbags, do you go for a brand name or looks and practicality ?

Do brand names actually offer value ?

Hmm..

If you want to feed a man today, give him fish.

If you want to feed him for ever, teach him fishing.

Ohk... what you guyz say is super correct.

Working in a manufacturing firm I know the margin which is kept.

Ohk, One thing which you both believe in is this money does reach to the people who are at rock bottom of the pyramid.

The problem here which you point out is not the system.. it is the person.. or the company which is immoral n greedy.

Ohk NO Idea About Armani, But I know about Siemens.. That they have adopted many villages in Germany and help there children in education n employment etc..

I have jus heard about Siemens...

But I have seen in India the Giants like TATA, BIRLA have done so much for the society by opening subsidized schools for needy, employment to the guyz of villages they have adopted...

thts why I feel proud to use TATA products as much possible... also Siemens... even when they cost double the competitors.. I know the money shall be used for good cause in their respective home lands..

Expelling this way of Social work is like not believing in God bcoz there are people still suffering...

CBD - About the uneven distribution of money. Of course they are here to make money, exploitation by the rich of the poor is also common but tht has to be solved too.

Communist way of working does n work... everyone equal is not accepted by people who wrk hard and want to be above avg.

Beeseh - When you say your way of helping is by giving the needy directly....

Thts good.. Everyone for the style tht suits her/him.

I had mentioned in the post tht this is a in-direct way of helping.. not direct...

And along with flow of money... you also get the Snob value... Thts the driving force of money flow in this way...

Now it makes sense??

Ash, a lil update... Most brands are produced in Asian countries by children and women who get a pocket money not a salary and live in slums. Ay, I can see how Mr. Armani & co. give them a salary raise. If I want to help somebody I go there and give them food or clothes or teach them how to make food and clothes. I don't believe that anything of what I pay for an item does any good to the ones who really need it. That is what we call market. Ppl do business to gain profit. As you obviously have no idea how certain things are produced and how much margin they have pls don't say such things.

Ashwin..you wish!

this says there is even distribution in society of money which is not the case at all...

there are people who are tooooooooo rich and people who are toooo poor!

By ashwindoke• 2 May 2009 12:36
ashwindoke

no matter where who spends...

What matters is money should flow.... not stagnated...

even if you buy a Armani....

It might cost 2000 USD.... but tht money comes in market...

Armani thks to your money.. employees more people... gives them salary rise....

Vendors selling cloth n machinery to Armani get more business...

they hire more people....

The more workers are hired.

See how many lives you are touching...?

Brands not only give you a Snobbish feeling.. but also help society.... in a indirect way though..

t_coffee_or_me, there is a slight difference when a person allows themselves a pair of nice shoes for 2000 QR once in a lifetime without having millions on their bank account and when somebody so incredibly rich wastes all his money instead of helping others. God gave him a gift (luck as I don't believe he's so clever or whatever else that he would have WORKED for his money) and he's showing what a selfish little boy he is. If I had that much money I would spend some on myself for sure but I'd spend those 10 millions per year on something that actually makes sense. Your priorities show what kind of person you are.

Hi

I tend to go for the look and the practicality of the handbag though having said that ever chick needs to have at least ONE designer handbag in her collection... I have a Gucci one that I saved up for for ages and I have used it to death....

t_coffee_or_me, I never spend much on brands. Now Curious offered me a shopping tour with his credit card so why not? ;) If it comes to shoes I don't really go for a brand but for quality as I have only 2 feet for all my life. Louboutin & co. is something... well... Every woman must have 1 pair of nice designer shoes. That's what you wear for special occasions.

Regarding bags, I agree with Happy Happy. I find it cheap being a walking ad for brands. And spending more than 1500 QR for a quality handbag is nonsense. I'm trying to get high quality evergreens that fit to most my outfits and will be in even next year.

I shop for a handbag to match an outfit, in terms of color, size and material, if that's available, I'll go for it.

I cannot afford expensive brands, or maybe I can but don't see any convencing reason to put up with their priciing. Even my sunglasses are always the ones that don't show big logos on the sides.

I really do feel an idiot for allowing myself to be a walking ad. for any given brand.

Salam

Alexa, obviously we have a different taste... I don't like these overly kitschy, colorful, shiny, gold, silver, whatever things they sell here. Can you pls tell me where can I get some nice sexy stilettos in the state of Qatar? I tried Landmark, Villagio, City Center, Centerpoint, you name it...

Curious, why wouldn't you get along with my ideas? I have some pretty good ones ;) Oooh, are you a bunny? Come on, a bit shopping hasn't killed anyone! I'm a good shopping-mate, really, I swear! And as they don't have any nice shoes in Qatar it won't take a long time either. Btw, do you know where I can buy Chantal (underwear)?

It is not about buying the Bag.. its about how you are buying it.... for females..

My mom hates it when My dad tries to save time by helping her..... Don repeat the mistake here...

Let them have fun.... in there way...

Ashwin..i thought i am the first man to comment until i saw your name by scrolling down..

I have a thought on this subject..

use the following:

1- choose the bag you like in terms of look.

2- check its quality.

3- check the price.

if one 1 and 2 are acceptable to you then buy the bag!

if the bag happens to be brand names then it happens to be a brand name.

those brand makers focus on the psychology of people. Many people buy items just for the name without checking look or quality. Another prove is that when some brand makers, LV, D&G and all extend thier production to wallets, sweets, pens because they have built a name and want to utilise it on the expense of decieved customers.

Remember, simple bag with fine quality and good looks and nice combination of colours is better than ugly looking expensive bags. And it is not the reason men like women anyway!

In some aspects this is slavery. we get decieved and pay alot of money for stuff that are not worth it. Don't be taken by those illusions.

This is my philosophy in everything i buy not just in hand bags.

Spread the message.

I would go for looks and quality. If I do buy a designer bag it would be because i liked the way it looked and that it matched me. I think first and foremost a handbag should go well with your body type.

I wouldn't buy an expensive handbag that will just be sitting in the corner of my office during the day.

I'd rather buy a nice pair of shoes.

Both the looks and practicality. Sometimes, i find it easier to shop by brand name, not only do i feel i get the latest design, but also the right quality for my money.

branded bags, in my point of view, its an investment, LV handbangs designs are timeless, and if you're a working and have to use the bag 5 times a week in year the price is all worth it.

I normally wouldn't buy a designer handbag on principle because of the ridiculous price tags but if I did i would have to like the style and it would have to be practical for my needs. If you are going to spend a fortune on it you need to be able to use it.Keep Smiling :-) you never know who is looking
