Has any expat bought property here in one of the eligible developments, and managed to actually acquire the foretold 99 year RP yet?

It has been talked about, but as yet I have met no one who has actually managed to get this fabled 99 year RP.

Have you got one?

By law, if you have a residency permit based on the ownership of qualified property, you may not accept employment in the country because that is against the purpose for which the permit is issued.

Such permits are issued for 5 years and are "renewable." Keep in mind that your residence permit can be cancelled without warning or notice for any reason at the sole discretion of the government.

Also, the subject property can be confiscated at their discretion for the sake of "public interest".

In other words, you really don't "own" it, but you are paying for the potential right to use and to stay in Qatar, which can be revoked at any time without refund.

Hi Anwarullah,

Yes, I would like to have your brother's phone number or email address. I will send you a PM with my details within few minutes. One question: Is your brother retired or is he working now in Qatar?

Thanks

its no point having a property here in the gulf. i know of an expat who got banned from dubai for a minor misdemeanor. he had purchased a studio apartment earlier to his exit.

i really do not know how he managed to sell-off this property at the market price.

Excuse my ignorance, but why the hell would anyone in their right minds want to spend the rest of their lives based here???...ok so let's say they give you the 99 year R.P.,what's stopping them from cancelling it a couple of years down the line for something frivolous like pi*&ing off the wrong local or something?...it is still an R.P. isn't it?...a few clicks on the M.O.I Immigration system is all that's needed to cancel it,how is that 'stability' from any point of view?...

Yes Mr. M, but if you buy property here, and get your 99 year visa that means you can live in the property for as long as you like, and until you pop your clogs, without worrying about getting kicked out of the country if you lose your job. It means you can change jobs, and it means you can plan to retire here.

What I want to know is... has anyone managed to get one, after they have bought their property? Because as yet those I know who have bought, are being fobbed of with excuses, and there is lack of clarity as to the process and eligibility.

All I want to know is... has anyone got one? Is it really possible?

Nope, its still a dream, they only give you (as what i heard) 99yrs on your property only!!
