Is this the height of selfishness ?

She had 2 kids at 69 years of age and has now passed away leaving them as orphans. Am I the only one thinking that this is selfishness at the extreme ???????????

A pensioner who became the world’s oldest mother at 66 through anonymous sperm and egg donations has died, leaving her twin sons orphaned and reigniting controversy over fertility treatment for older women.

María Carmen del Bousada de Lara, a single mother, died from cancer two years after giving birth to Christian and Pau. She was 69.

Ms Bousada learnt that she had a tumour before she gave birth to her sons at a clinic in Barcelona in December 2006.

The retired shop worker, one of four children from a middle-class family, sold her house in Cádiz to raise the £36,000 needed for the in vitro fertilisation treatment in America. Later she admitted lying to doctors about her age, claiming that she was 55 to get round age limits at the Pacific Fertility Centre in Los Angeles. She had not told her family about the purpose of her trip — but when the boys were born the news caused outrage among them, in Spain and around the world.

worse if she were a man!

in fact there is a lot of them (old men running after teens)! what other than selfishness? maybe the fear of death? or an unfullfilled life?

There is quite a difference..

She was a single mother without a partner. At this age the odds were that she would pop off while the kids were at a very young age.

Would you say it was selfish if it was a 69 year old man out there humping away, or marrying again and having kids?

Sorry but i dont think its selfishness. we do not know the reasons behind her wanting to become a mother at that age. Plus if any person knew they were going to die why would they go and have kids? Logically there has to be something MORE then what the news is reporting. So who are we to judge her?

I'm split on this one....on the one hand I do think its selfish. On the other I feel a) I think its a trajedy to not have someone continue your "line" after you pass on and b) how many men in their 70's & 80's spawn kids left right and centre? Plenty. So there shouldnt be a hue and cry just cause she's a woman.

Stupidity defined!

1- She's too old to take care of them..

2- They're not HERS! donated sperm and donated egg! She was only a container!

SHE LIED about her age! This is one hell of a hospital that will take a woman's word for her age!!

there are cases when tumours in women regress when they become pregnant or gives birth.

And besides, people who are alone/lonely sometimes do "crazy" things...
