Mashreq bank filed a case againt me while I was on vacation, they deposited the "assurance check" i earlier signed in case I wasn't able to pay the credit card loan I took..something way back home that prompted me to take the credit card cash loan. I paid monthly but was below the minimum required.

Now I have a hearing next week. What are the risks of going there alone? is it okay? do i have a chance to have a cheap lawyer or an arabic lawyer who does not cost/charge much?

Never take Mashreq bank credit card they are worst doing in Qatar for their customers. Lot of hidden charges as well. I have lot of bad experiances with this bank.

Thats the lower criminal court behind Old Mannai / Baby Shop. No problem. You will be there for less than 5 mins. Dont worry at all. Be strong and dont be worried.

There is no need for a lawyer, There is no need to worry about anything. You will be going to the court which is at Al Sadd street. There are so many case related to bouncing cheques.

Lawyer is not required, all you need to do is to make a promise that you will pay of the loan money either now full in cash, or installment.

The court will advice you how much u need to pay. If you pay off then there are no charges against you.

These petty cases are there in plenty these days.

Dont worry, everything will be fine

Of course you CAN go alone, but I am not sure I advise it. You have to sign something you cannot read (I am assuming you dont speak or read arabic). Sometimes the translation is very different that what you said or what was intended.

Also you are being charged with an offense. I would want to have a lawyer to help barter your case a bit and also to fully understand what is going on in the court.

No such thing as a cheap lawyer in Qatar, arabic or otherwise.

The court can supply a translator. I cannot guarantee the quality of translation but you will have to sign the court transcript, which is in arabic and can sometimes differ from what you intended to say or said as it is translated from English to arabic.

you really have to find a lawyer first rather than be in jail as my friends say there in the middle east..go with somebody who knows something at least..i will ask my friends in middle east but its not that cheap i heard..
