England back to square one

The slaughter is over, it's time for the inquest.

Having arrived in India with high hopes after dominating Mahendra Dhoni's side all summer, England have been brought down to earth with a very painful bump.

The 5-0 one-day whitewash suffered by Alastair Cook's men was an all-too-familiar story, with England's players found wanting on the slow, turning pitches of the subcontinent, and suffering old-fashioned thrashings in four of the matches.

Smith says: "Although it feels like a disappointing tour, if this group of players are going to go on and become as big a force in one-day cricket around the world as they want to, they will learn some lessons from this trip that will be very useful in the future. I imagine that some people will have found out some things about playing India that they won't forget."

I am so glad I don't like cricket. It seems to generate so much anger.

Bunch of half wits who shouldnt have been out there in the first place. This was a pointless exercise. The winter "tour" for England's cricketers will be these idiotic 5 one dayers in India followed by T/20 games - a trip to the UAE to take on Pakistan in test matches and a trip to SL for 3 tests in the new year - pointless. The pursuit of money has made this a 12 month a year game now - India sufferd in the summer in UK and the TCCB are doing the same thing to the England team. Like India in the summer, you dont become a bad team overnight. India have played well here and England havent turned up - its the mirror image of the UK a couple of months ago so cudos to India for bouncing back so emphatically. I sincerely hope that Team India use this as a positive platform to go forward and tap into the wealth of new talent that they clearly have. As far as England ae concerned, I doubt that there is a drawing board to go back too - all the good work that was done in 2011 on the one day format has been wiped out in 5 days!!! Still the best test team in the world and fortunately that isnt going to be tested this time around - they way things are going, they'd lose THAT mantle as well!!!!
