Rumours are that he is worth around 40 billion dollars. Will be interesting if the Egyptian government goes after the money.

Well now that Mubarak is history we could start wondering and turning our atention to the next despot to face the music. We are only in the 2nd month of 2011 and it looks like it is going to be an interesting year

By anonymous• 11 Feb 2011 23:12

...........Switzerland said it was freezing assets potentially belonging to the former Egyptian leader. Other despots and dictators better take note not to hide their ill gotten gains in Switzerland

You hope for too much. Let's hope that all groups are allowed to participate in determining the future of the nation.

Congrats to Egyptians

Lets hope the new ruler will not serve the Old Masters.

By anonymous• 11 Feb 2011 22:22

We all no the real reason he was hanging on

the Egyptian leader insisted he would stay in office until September as he still has six months left on his presidential O2 iPhone contract and he was not about to pay £24.99 a month for something he couldn't even use.

Not exactly a coup, but no it doesn't make a difference.

Libya probably won't be next-

After 'Victory Friday' in Tunisia & 'Liberation Friday' in Egypt Gaddafi has decided to abolish all Fridays

Finally MUBARAK has decided to step out...

Good move..

Let's wait and watch how NEW EGYPT will be...

The question being asked now is - Is it a coup, since the army has taken over, rather than the VP..

Does it make any difference ?

Let's hope bharain doesn't implode. It could lead to a knock on affect with loyalties to another distasteful dictatorship in Iran.

King Abdullah is slowly implementing reforms. not as fast as many would like though. the funny thing is that when he came to power, many including the West thought that he would take the country in the other direction.

By genesis• 11 Feb 2011 20:50
genesis

the only reason King Abdulla isn't capable of enforcing more reforms is because of Wahabis who forms the majority of the Saudis.

Saudi intellects wants reforms but that doesn't mean they want Al Saud to go ( expect for the minority shiite in the east)

Genesis. I worry for Bahrain.

1000 dinars is 10,000 riyals approximately. It's a significant amount but I wonder if it is too late.

By genesis• 11 Feb 2011 20:42

Today, Bahrain's King has ordered to pay The amount of one thousand dinars for each bahraini family as per a press release now on Bahrain news agency

http://www.bna.bh/?ID=181375

Sadly, the situation is critical in Bahrain :(

News is spreading online that Bahraini Shiite will have a demonstration on the upcoming February the 14th

Shiite in Bahrain are a majority, but unfortunately their loyalty is to Iran

Agree it seems strange. An absolute monarchy praising democratic change.

As for Saudi it does not necessarily follow it become al Qaeda.

I am surprised by the Qatar's official response and about how it took to the whole issue from the begining! Does this sound right from a monarchy?

I think the relation with Israel will change if there is democracy. However it will be an important agenda for the political parties to come into power!

I really really hope Iran is next. this should give hope to the Iranian opposition. That they have a chance to overthrow the regime

With the resources these countries have, there is no excuse for not developing and giving something back to the people (like Qatar for example). I would hate to see Bahrain become part of the Irani bloc that controls Iran, Iraq, Syria and South Lebanon.

By genesis• 11 Feb 2011 20:12

It's still unclear who's next. However, Any of the potential countries ( Sudan, Yemen, Algeria, Bahrain & Libya) could follow

The situation is still blurry in Syria

I think he realised the game was up and the only way he could stay in power would be to start shooting and arresting 100s if not 1000s people like the Iranians. He was too old for that sort of fight and he lost support of his aides
