Not cheaters. Market rate depends on the demand and supply. Also the region, rentals in the UAE are about that also. And also the size of the accommodation and area you were looking at.

The true rental or market rate of the place you mentioned is probably the QAR5,500 but the landlord just kindly gives you a discount on the rental. This is where you go through an agent whom the Landlord trusts, who negotiates on your behalf. Doesn't matter as long as you get a deal you are comfortable with and have the terms and conditions of your tenancy sorted out and the agreement with the landlord signed. Sometimes, direct negotiation by you works as well, some of my friends have done it in the past.

Having said all that, of course, it's better to have someone you trust advising you on the deal, but your own research should suffice so you make an informed decision. All the best in finding an accommodation that suits you.

Stealth taxes, Lol! ... Where's Stealth? He ain't supposed to be taxing us peeps! :p

Quite right, Spybot - "It boils down more to the fact that we give you so much money for housing, we will take it back and keep the money in the country...SO THE RICH GET RICHER AND WE WILL STAY NORMAL LOL"

Life is always about justifications and it's good to be normal - not a target cos mafi riyal ... :p

IMHO, keeping the rent $$ within the country is fair as this give and take is necessary to float the local economy. If we repatriate everything home, not so good is it? :0)

lol...100 to a BR.. Yeah, it happens but still tolerable as it happens quite less. It also avoids several cars taking rounds around your place ....the place almost looks like a 'market' otherwise...;)

High rents are part and parcel of the high salaries in the Middleast.

I refer to the high rents as Stealth Taxes!

pRATAP...tht is a load of hogwash, the owners give the agent a price a set amount tht he wants and yes the middle man escolates it to cover his business. So by saying the owners don't know...I say bull to tht

Eagley ...I feel it has nothing to do with the markets...there r many places standing vacant and 4 what, ppl shack up and split costs either due to high prices or tht is the way they were raised to live like rats in a cage.

SOme pay the high prices as we would like to be comfortable in our accomodations however, for the sub standard quality and poor building of the properties we live in the rents r toooooo high.

It boils down more to the fact that we give you so much money for housing, we will take it back and keep the money in the country...SO THE RICH GET RICHER AND WE WILL STAY NORMAL LOL

Trust me,the owner of the house will not do this in Qatar, they all are already rich enough, it's always the expat middleman who increase the price for their own benefits, the owner of the house would never know at what monthly rent his house is rented out for. These middlemen not only cheat the tenents but also the owner.
