Honesty vs. Care

mallrat
By mallrat

How do you prefer a friend to treat you? Honesty or Care?
You can only choose one.

Honesty- You can listen to the honest truth but normally, the truth hurts.

Care- You want a friend to tell you no any part of the truth, it doesn't hurt your feelings.

POLITENESS, n. The most acceptable hypocrisy. (Ambrose Bierce, The Devil's Dictionary, 1911)

Yap that's it greentea... you can tell it to your friends carefully, with care.... and of course they will surely understand you... if you both love each other as friends you'll gonna help one another to be a better person...

By greentea• 23 May 2010 09:37

but i would still prefer to hear the truth esp. coming from my well meaning friends.. and besides, friends who cares knows how to break it to you gently ;)

I agree with Chocoholic. If I have asked for your opinion, yes. Give it to me in all its bitter harshness. However, if I have no asked for it, kindly keep it to yourself.

For me, being true to your friend means you do care for her/him... and that's what i want also for my friends to do to me... Just tell it in a positive way... maybe of course it will gonna hurt but just dont be direct to the point... you can just give him some clues or make yourself as an example for him/her to be aware of the truth...

Friends will tell you the truth in a caring way, and they'll also know when telling the truth might not be the best thing for you, and rather being their for you is.

What you need to watch out for is "friends" who tell you the "truth" for their own benefit and then tell the "truth" to everyone behind their back to make them look like a good person, when they aren't.

Absolute truth does not exist. Fanatics and communists had claimed and failed in the past. We all carry our truth with us. Care is something which is very hard to find, but it exists.

most probably yes...at some level...if one never learned is the way to say it, has a mean and shallow level of conversation...atleat

By anonymous• 22 May 2010 21:42
anonymous

lemontree, its unlikely that even after 20 years of marriage, you would be able to get away by telling some blatant and hurtful truths to your wife..

does it mean your relationship with her is shallow?

By lemontree• 22 May 2010 21:36
lemontree

acceptability of blunt truth is directly proportional to the depth of relationship

By anonymous• 22 May 2010 21:23
anonymous

nomerci, yes, we should understand the best intentions of our friends...then again, you have used the word 'should'..

we are not talking about what we 'should'..

most of us are not that elevated and enlightened mentally that we can ignore the 'hurt' and churn out the 'truth'

atleast i am not...i want to listen to the truth which doesnt hurt.

By shapil• 22 May 2010 20:51
shapil

Truth I can find from my enemies, care I can only get from my friends.

By nomerci• 22 May 2010 20:38
nomerci

rishimba, then again, should a friend not know that you have their best interest at heart and understand, no matter how you say it, you mean well?

Also, some people do not "get it" unless told in no uncertain terms....

I have to say though, by now I have made it a habit to silently walk away. As most times it is not even worth the effort.

By anonymous• 22 May 2010 20:26
anonymous

nomercy, thats exactly what i am pointing at...if the bitter truth is told with a bit of tact, its better and it works as well...

blatant truth will hurt the person and the friendship will soon get soured..

Dracula, no matter what the situation is, it is always better to tell the truth. One can do this in a tactful fashion. It may be difficult at the time, but it will pay n the long run.

nomerci

It's better to tell the true BEFORE making a big decision in your life!

Think about you have to marry with someone but you dont love him!

By Jaryz• 22 May 2010 20:14
Jaryz

listen....

you can easily tell them "HONESTLY" about it that you don't want to listen about your shortcomings, weaknesses whatsoever :)

rishimba, you are 100% right , most people do not want to know the truth. If the truth is told to them, even with the intent to help them get better, the person telling them the truth is called all kinds of ugly names and is ostracized.

Thing is, I don't care...I do tell the truth, no matter what.

I believe that , as I said before, only the truth can make us better people. I try...if they don't want to listen it is not my fault.

By anonymous• 22 May 2010 20:06

jaryz, there is a difference between what we want to listen and what we think we should listen..

especially when it comes to our shortcomings, we really dont want to listen to such weaknesses about ourselves from others..but we all say that we want to know about them from others..

is it not living in the denial mode?

the fact is, people dont want to listen to the truth about themselves if its bitter to swallow..

all who have answered 'truth' are living in such a denial mode that they are fooling themselves..

just for the sake of argument, if i say to an ugly girl that she is ugly and she will remain ugly even if she tries out loads of make-up on her face...will she like it?

i cant call a fat guy fat....can i?
