I want more money says Slumdog star's father
Is this greed rearing its ugly head ????????????
Should the money go to the father or the child ??
The father of a Slumdog Millionaire child star has demanded more cash for his son, amid claims he will get less than £20,000 for the Oscar-winning hit which has grossed £123million.
Azharuddin Ismail, ten, was plucked from Mumbai's slums to play Salim, the brother of the film's main character.

He was reportedly paid £700 during filming, while another £17,500 has been put into a trust fund which he will get, plus interest, when he is 18. The boy also receives a £20-a-month allowance and his family will get a new house worth £20,000.
But Azharuddin's father Mohammed, who lives in a shack, has tuberculosis and earns less than £40 a month gathering wood, said it was 'not enough' and that film director Danny Boyle should hand all the money over immediately.
This week, Mr Ismail, 45, was seen beating Azharuddin last week when the jet-lagged boy said he wanted a rest.
He said: 'My son has taken on the world and won. I am so proud of him but I want more money.
'They promised me a new house but it hasn't happened. I'm still in the slum.
'I want the money now, it is of no use later. Mr Boyle should take care of my son.'

Screen role: Azharuddin as Salim in Slumdog Millionaire
Azharuddin returned to school yesterday for its annual prize day.
The father of co-star Rubina Qureshi, who played Latika, revealed details of how much she and Azharuddin would net from the film. But Slumdog producer Christian Colson insisted: 'We haven't told anybody how much money is put aside for them.'
He said the film-makers wanted to stop gangsters preying on the families and were monitoring their progress.

the father died of his tb already..read that they were already shifted to an apartment in santacruz(mumbai suburb)..so at least the boy n his family have a permanent place to stay i..hopefully his education should also be taken care of..unless other family members make him concentrate on his so called 'career' at this age..lets hope sanity prevails now n the kid gets an education..
If he wants more money... he should apply to go on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire"
The poor boys father is already dead.
It's hard to determine who is more greedy....the poor boy's father who never sweated one drop ........ or this Danny Boyle who wanted to frisk away with all the profit thinking these slumdwellers will never know.
There are many people like the original story writer who were conveniently forgotten by the more sophisticated cheaters. The question is not what kind of background the family and the boy is coming? The question is were they paid their dues?
Britexpat if it was an English boy, Danny Boyle will pay a handsome to his great grand mother also and with pleasure.
Its india afteral....wat dat mean?
Too late for tears now. I knew Danny Boyle was a royal s**t of a man a year ago, when I saw that those two kids are still in Dharavi or something. Seriously Danny, was it a chip in your fat account, two houses in Mumbai are hardly a frickin' pot of gold, let alone 123 mil. FOR SHAME! Western conscientiousness is a b***h!
I guess the movie has a bitter moral flipside to it now too. Guess what DVD I'll never be buying :[ Nah lemme rephrase that, guess who ain't gettin' half a kopek outta me :P
how depressing some Qlers comments
I wont be a bit suprised if we find out some gang was trying to get money by forcing the parents to get more money
Its india afterall
The monthly allowance is stated is it not? 20 quid. ____________________________________________________

From what I have read, there is a trust fund set up for him using an incentive scheme. The higher he studies, the more the money. Also, he will get a monthly allowance.
How old is the kid Brit? Shall he live the next 8-10 years in his current conditions or will it be better for him when he is sent to an orphanage or sweat shop when his father finally keels over with TB?

The father deserves no more.. The kid did the acting and its right that he have a proper trust fund.. The father will just blow it..
guess It is India right.. He wants more money for his son now.. when he grows up he will expect even more when he marries him off..
Incredible India..
Off to sleep zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

HE WHO DARES WINS
Yeah, why shouldn't he? Look at what everyone else is raking in, in the scheme of things he should get more, as the parent???
Dora what righto? the father wants more money?
-----------------
HE WHO DARES WINS
Yeah, righto....
Danny Boyle today announced that the revenue he receive from the Movie will be utiliszed for the upliftment of those slum kids. He also promised to give them aids for education and builidng homes..........
TB is more common among the lower socio economic groups because of over-crowding and poverty, the common use of smoking and tobacco, played a major role in the spread of the disease which is swelling despite the fact that there's a cure available for it.

There were a rise in interest in Britain for people who wanted to sponsor these kids as repoted in the GT yeaterday..

Hmm, I need to respond to Brit....
I want to clarify.... this is the father who will continue to take care of the boy correct? A trust fund should be set up for him for sure, but dont you think that the situation of the family will also be the situation of this child? By leaving the family in poverty you are also leaving this child star in poverty as well. True the father didnt act to get the money, but the father has been the boys caregiver and much more so why would he not deserve anything? The father and biy are one in the same ion so many ways.
Gees Louise, I hope my kids dont turn out like you lot. What ever happened to taking care of your parents? The kid gets some loot so automatically the father is out of the picture?
The father is desperate and living in desperate conditions with one foot in the grave.

The father had dollar signs in his eyes when he allowed his son to take part in the film. I don't think anybody including Danny Boyle expected it to be such a hit.
I suspect they settled on a sum of money and the flat etc thinking they could have afforded all of the above, if the film had been a flop.
You have to remember as well; and I hate the idea of child abuse in any way; that family are already wayyyyyyyyyy better off then anybody else around them now. How much in Rupees is he worth now even with the small allowance (in our eyes)?
When the father agreed to let him go, he also agreed on the amount. It could be open to debate that Danny Boyle et al, where not generous enough at the time. This may come out later.
The way the father beat the child when he was tired was abhorent.
We know they have a very hard life but come on they are better off now than they have ever been and the father/family will benefit when he gets the big amount when older.
cranky.Has anyone seen his skeleton pic? Instead of giving cash to him, its better if he is treated first.
about him wanting more money. What did they expect would happen? I am very concerned with the fact that he beat his own child when the child wouldn't perform after a 30 hour plane trip. In public even. You just know the kid is getting worse in private. I hope the authorities keep a close watch. Does that do any good in India?
The father is sick and desperate. The family lives in the slums and wants to get out TODAY. I would ask for more $$$$$ too! Why not?
"Is it fair that because they started out poor they should get less?"
I disagree. If he had agreed to a couple of pounds in wages, and was paid just that for his toils, then there's nothing unfair about it. That's not to dismiss the fact that more can be shared amongst the team, given the success of the film - maybe they already are doint it, we wldnt know.
---
he just couldn't wait to get his hands on the money that he did not even earn.. :/
The trust fund was set up for the children and the payments agreed "before" they realised that the film would be hit..
I personaly don't see why the father should get anything..
the nerve of him demanding more when he did not even sweat a single drop! it was his son who earned the money, it's him who deserves it.. agree with alexa, i hope they put up a trust fund for the boy till he's old enough to decide on what to do with the money..
I cant agree with that entirely. The director of Titanic James Cameron waived all royalties for making the movie as it was going grossly over budget and the producers were going to halt production.
As the movie grossed far more than anyone expected he was paid for his contribution.... _____________________________________________________

Every one looks for a low cost labour. They must have signed an agreement, mentioning specific amount for a specific role. The guy, if has kept his word, is a businessman & cannot distribut his profits to all. Although this applies only if they signed for any additional bonus sort of thing if the film does well.

CONFUSE ............ if you cannot convince!
a 20,000 GBP house, and an allowance of 20 GPB a month is indeed peanuts when the film grossed 123 million.
Is it fair that because they started out poor they should get less? Come on guys. _____________________________________________________

people who have no house, drinking water, proper food and strugging the life of dog ( literally Slumdog ) they get a handsome amount.. why they suddenly become so greedy ?
The second question to be answered - whether Danny Boyle gave them peanuts ? Even if "yes" when he gets such a big prize, he should be kind enough to distribute to all those actors / technicians behind the film,
Hmm, not sure if I would call this greed. The boy seems to have been paid peanuts for a movie that has grossed what is it, 123 million?
The father is a twat and is looking for the high life on the back of his son, but if his father does get the money he can possibly make a better life for himself, and this kind of snowballs down to the kid (i.e treatment of his TB, better food etc). I dont think he should still be living in the condition that he is, the father had to give consent for the boy to do the film and I think he should be in better conditions as his son does live with him.
The guy said he saw none of the money or the house. I think the kid should get more and his father is asking for it as he is a minor (logically).

discussion already HOT in other forum.
Obviously, he's not contented...
Greed has no boundaries :) He should be happy at least he'll get a proper home to live in & some assistance plus the child can later on work in some movies in small roles which would not effect his studies but its clear greed what his father is showing.
