A three-year-old girl died after accidentally shooting herself in the head with a gun she had found hidden under a mattress, police said.
Lilianna Moore, three, had been left home alone by her father, who was out visiting his girlfriend when his daughter picked up the loaded gun in a bedroom at their apartment.
Neighbours reported seeing a paramedic racing out of the building carrying Lilianna's limp body in his arms, blood pouring from her head.
She found the gun hidden between two mattresses, picked it up and accidentally pulled the trigger.
Lilianna was rushed to hospital, but she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Shocked neighbours who gathered outside the apartment block to grieve said they couldn't believe a loaded gun had been left in the same room as a toddler.
Police have not yet made any arrests, and are still determining whether they will file charges against the girl's father.
He is guilty of child neglet at least and now should be charged with Manslaughter.

Sadly, all weapons are dangerous , but guns moreso than knives.
Poor lil girl...let this be a lesson to all those negligent parents out there. I'm certainly all for "making an example of" the father. Letting him off scot free is pure folly in this case!
Tragic!GIASI - There are enough guns out there that can be operated by 3 yr olds (I'd say, almost all of them). It takes very little effort to pull a trigger (FYI I shoot guns for fun on the range). And, given enough time to play with one, they will eventually overcome the safety catch mechanism.LincolnPirate - Yes, lets blame the gun makers. And next time when a child cuts herself with a knife, you know who to blame.
sad story... and a negligent father...how could he left his own 3yrs old daughter alone... is he too eager for some meat of her girlfriend...

Some guns have "hair triggers" .. The key thing is that a three year old should not have been left alone and secondly, the gun should have been in a locked cabinet/safe.
It's the fault of the gun manufacturer! They have to design guns that cannot be operated by children or drunkards.
before it was the women who get blamed by being raped.. and now children being killed because of irresponsible father... for God's sake! she's only 3! another shallow-mind i guess...
I agree with the comment of getinandstayin. It is really beyond the strength of a 3 year child.
Children are just going crazy...yesterday read they are instigating self rape ... now they are killing themselves... seems parents cannot even go for sh*t in peace.

i say they'd better make laws 'n legislations banning onwership and carrying of any type of guns. now that 'd give the birds and wild hares some break
Sad news! The father should be charged with gross negligence!
i'm quite suprised that a three year old could pull the trigger. its well beyond the strength of a three year old. she obviously dropped it and it went off. The father should be locked up for a very long time.
They'd better file charges against the father! Who leaves a 3 year old unattended with a gun!
