Ignorant locals socialising on the road

A few hours ago, as I was driving towards home, right in the middle of the street I happened to see two Qatari locals (maybe adolescents) having a tea party blocking both lanes of the road. I approached one of them in a calm manner and suddenly he was just like so what etc. I even spoke to him in his language but it was still useless and unfortunately his pride had him shoved up too far up where the sun doesnt shine. I slightly snapped for a second and told him 'look I dont want any trouble (because I knew that I could easily thrash those guys) so can you kindly let me pass?' When I put my strong Brit accent on they just frowned and got dazzled and finally dispersed into the night. I am not boasting but I swear if I really wanted to I would injure them badly and send them to hospital. Sadly this is the mentality of these youngsters who think that they own the roads and that their daddies/families can easily bail them out anytime. If someone has had an experience like this and walked away without physical confrontation then please do share thanks (so I feel like Im not the only one who has been through such a ridiculous and compelling scenario).

Peace.

Never said that my country was perfect. I am not bringing issues from India or any other middle eastern/asian country like most of you guys do.

This is Qatar Living... repeat after me: QATAR LIVING.

I suspect you both came from marriages between siblings. Check your genealogic tree just in case.

at Mike Shamrock, I'm aware that people in smaller vehicles often become victims of abuse. However I drive a four by four cruiser but that's not the case here, guess I was dressed in civilian clothes (as usual) and I didnt have the traditional gear on, thus setting me apart from the men in white. Even though I spoke their lingo and they kinda thought I was a national so I guess race wasn't really the key issue here but rather sheer pride and miscommunication on their behalf.

Oh well, in the future I'll try and be more cautious and take better measures in some way or another, I'm a man of peace, liberte, fraternite and equalite....(but next time they may not be so lucky). I totally agree with your final points as well- on the queue part and the fact that the world is becoming an insaner place. Hope my point came across well cheers. :)

We can simplify this matter by saying "if you don't like it, just leave it" but the truth is that the expat community constantly grows day by day. I am not sure what's behind this arrogance by some people and when I mean "some" I am not referring to Qataris only.

You can see people driving in a way that puts others in danger, but the way they drive shows their lack of education and that probably many of them used to commute just a few years back with donkeys.

If you drive a low-end/cheap/small vehicle, rest assured you will get bullied and treated like a piece of crap.

You can always spot ads in the newspapers saying that they only want Western expat families in certain compounds. Or vehicles being sold with the slogan "driven by western expat lady" BUT on the other hand you can spot some european/westerners driving in a way that would be inexcusable in their home countries.

People don't know how to queue... I had one of the most disgusting experiences ever at the WWE event in Doha earlier this year.

I can only see this getting worse day by day. Prove me wrong if you can!

Yes youre right...just that I came across some road-raging trash-talking bedouins who felt uber invincible in their old school rough-rider jeeps and you guys are right, not worth it stooping down to their level.

@ramyk...I have British nationality but if I really wanted I could give it up and get the Qatari nationality anytime honestly and I know youre not sounding too harsh, (if you said it to my face then maybe that would be another story lol). Although indeed it sucks that you can't really possess a dual nationality here. Finally, for the record,I also have good Qatari well-mannered friends but I just decided to share this odd experience for some apparent reason and strangely, I don't regret it either.

I'm interested in a lot of justified views expressed on this matter, once again thanks to the understanding positive thinkers on here, bless you all. :)

Yours truly,

Undercover brother from another mother.

Sniper, the incident which occurred, is not a common practice here. Most of the locals are carrying decent behavior. It seems like you encountered with some naughty teen agers...which can be happened any other part of the world also.

I don't mean this in a hostile way, but the reality of this whole thing is, if you don't like the way the locals act then no one's forcing you to be here. Pack your bags and leave. Yes some of them they might be proud, arrogant, etc..but you have to learn to take a step back in this sort of situation and remember that they've let you into their country to make your money, and just let it go.

If you let this sort of stuff get to you, you'll never really be able to enjoy Qatar or any other GCC country.

Thanks for hearin me out man, much appreciated. Sometimes I just think to myself do these things just happen to me coz of me being overnice or the fact that its simply bad karma? It doesnt really matter anymore I guess. However if someone crosses the line by spitting, swearing at families or drawing first blood then self defense is gonna come into practical use. Oh and if you feel like Im ranting on and nagging etc then guess Ill just stop coz it wont really change anything sadly but truly. I rest my case......

Peace

Ok first off, thanks for your great contributions ladies n gents. Secondly, I am educated, I have a life and a well paid job. Id rather work hard than live off pocketmoney or large inherited sums. Furthermore I wouldnt like to have a criminal record here so its pointless just going all macho and fisticuffs. Street fights are pointless here, next thing you know the whole mob is after you. Would you fight near your home so that they can easily find you and attack you out the blue or your family? Dont think so. To some of the half wit morons on here like ahmed.qatar (sorry had to name n shame buddy), your comment was disgusting its scumbags like you that cause problems in the world! There are other rather intelligent ways of having a discussion/debate.

@ gtrman, dude what do u mean newbie? So what? Im sure u were a newbie on this forum at some point. Oh and if youre referring to newbie as in new to the country, well guess what mate, I was born in the UK but lived in Doha most my life...oh and I aint that old either.

whenever there is lots of money going around, there is a blatant lack of respect for rules, along with a "so what" attitude. this attitude is not limited to just this country, it happens everywhere.

I had a teenager throw a bottle of Pepsi (the glass ones)!! At me from a passing car. Gladly the bottle missed my face by few inches and smashed a street light post.

But a teen ager opened fire at his fellow classmates in Virginia a few years ago.

my favorite is when they park in the roundabouts and wait for someone and cars are having to get dangerously close to pass by. Or when they stop a semi truck to have words with the driver about being cutoff right in the exit lane of a busy roundabout causing numerous accidents then driving off to leave the truck driver at blame (yeah, you know who you are).

You are definitely a smart and decent person and showed in this situation who the better man was.

A few days ago, I had a funny situation with two kids at the Carrefour in Villaggio, they were both kicking a bunch of foot/basket/tennis balls and my 4 year old daughter almost got hit in the face. In addition, they wouldn't tidy up so I looked at these little kids and told them "this is not funny, you should at least put those balls back into their place" so one of them came with a cocky attitude, wearing his thob (he was probably 9 or 10 years old) and said "so what? are you gonna make me do it?" and the only thing I said to him was "I know your father and I am sure he would not be very pleased to hear that you purposedly tried to hit a four year old with a ball".

And THAT was the end of the story!

Not sure why u had to mention your Daddy is Qatari! But good and bad exist everywhere I say.

If some juveniles in Qatar are occasionally blocking the roads to chit chat or have some tea other Teen agers elsewhere will stick guns to your ribs and force you to hand over your belongings. Try traveling through Hackney by night and see if you come out the other side in one piece lol

Well done. You handled the situation quite well, Masha Allah. And yeah though I've never experienced this first hand I know such crazies exist. And its amazing the kind of arrogance these kids wear..seriously! Hope you taught them a good lesson and again well done for not losing it completely.

you should have side kicked on of them and made him fly few meters. I had a similar issue once. I was parking car and talking over the phone. My car was parked like 10 meter away from a villa because I was lost. Some Thug came to my car and start threatening me to leave. I left, but before I left, he was on the sidewalk spitting blood.

DO I regret it?

HELL NO!

it is all too common for idiots like that to think they own everything. Its something to do with their upbringing I think.

when I come across these types, I always says to myself, "feel sorry for the uneducated and the ignorant" and move on..

it is no use trying to wrestle with a pig, you will get muddy, the pig will enjoy it.

Oh Im calm, all Im doing is stating the obvious no offense. Dont get me wrong as Im Not hating coz my dad is Qatari and I have no issues with racism, just the uncalled for arrogance that these treacherous individuals display. Just beyond me honestly, these people never fail to amaze me (sarcastic tone). I am very friendly and welcoming and get along with all sorts of people, just that after experiencing a few similar incidents it just starts to become a little too much if you know what I mean. Im sure someone out there will agree....
