I just had a wonderful 6 days in India. Now I am hooked on India Cuisine especially Gujarati. Would someone advise me as to whether there are any reputable restaurants with Indian cuisine and WHERE they are located.
...of all the stupid things that roads do in here in Qatar, the sudden lane reduction behind the palace that you are referring to is the dumbest and most dangerous. Just had to comment because it makes me so angry, okay, rant over. The Garden is very good, unfortunately, they just raised there prices two weeks ago...still a decent value.
The Garden Restaurant does really nice indian food. The downstairs is all veggie, and upstairs serves meat dishes. I've tried a lot of the indian food available in Qatar. The expensive restaurants in hotels do very nice food indeed, but some of the takeaways do food that tastes very mass-produced. Anyway, when I tried the Garden I was very impressed.
If you're on the corniche heading towards west bay area, turn left before the Emiri Diwan (palace), and then right (so that you're going behind it), then turn left at the next set of light (where the road varies from 2-3 lanes for no apparent reason). You'll be very close to the restaurant then. Park up and ask.
Hold it right there. I seem to enjoy Indian cusine once in a while.
1. Midtown restaurant (Muntaza Plaza, Muntaza)- Lovely Chicken lollypops with spicy dip and Superb Chilli chicken
Chicken lollypop-Ribs style chicken, fried in medium spicy batter. excellent entree or finger food
Chilli chicken- Boneless soft chicken pieces in nice thai sauce et capsicum. Has a sweet after taste.
2. The indus (behind the national panasonic showroom)- 3.5 out of 5 stars. Poor ambience. No family section. The fried rice is not worth the penny. however the the veggie dishes and some common meat dishes are okay.
3.The garden restaurant. (Karaba street)- Excellent veggie and meat dishes. The food is a bit too spicy in general. Stick with the general seating area on top floor. Dont bother the specialty hall ( Its a ripper)
4. The turkish central. ( Al mirghab)- Non indian. Excellent place to dine for meat lovers. Heavenly finger foods, sandwiches, entrees.
5.Intercontinental- the lagoon restaurant (West Bay)- Superb Continental and arabic delicacies on the buffet. Check out the the buffet theme before making reservations. Reservations are a must for weekends.
I am not sure about Gujarathi specials cuisine. But, you can try out in these restuarants where Indian Cuisine is available i.e. Star of India [TV Roundabout], Caravan [Ramada Signals], Garden Restaurant [Shara Khraba], Dasman Restaurant [National area], Swagath Restaurant [Opp. Doha Petrol Station], Mahajaja Restuarant [Shara Asmukh], Maaza Restaurant [Opp Airport], Athidhi Restaurant [Behind Gold Souq], Kebab King [Crazy Signals & Volkswagon R/A], Woodlands [Al Diwan Street], Blue Star & Indus [Behind National Showroom]. All the best, Enjoy your food.

Didn't know meat and grill fell under Gujarati foods. Gujarati's mainly eat vegetarian.
