Irritating Drivers!!!

dazzle
By dazzle

I am very pissed off with those drivers who doesn't even know the rule of thumb in driving!
I'm just wondering how these "idiots/morons/imbecile" (sorry for the terms) people got their driving license here in Doha...
Simple things like "right of way", "left & right turn signals", "who has to go first on a roundabout", "where to position the vehicle on a roundabout", and so much simple things that doesn't even need any education or formal learning but just the use of "COMMON SENSE" will do...
It already happened 3 times (or even more) to us. My husband and I were on our way to my office and we usually take the diversion from Old Rayyan to Al Waab (thru Al Najah School). Twice did it happen that a fellow just took a left turn from a minor road without even looking on his left and right sides to check if a car is approaching...(take note, this is a school zone and you cannot go any faster because there were lots of humps.) We just pass one hump when suddenly a f$%#^@$#&% driver cross the major road coming from the minor road on a very fast speed! Can you imagine??? Do they really know how to drive???
And just this morning... Almost the same place (just a little farther from the school). Our car is running/moving at 60kph along the major road when suddenly an ill-pathetic driver took a left turn coming from a minor road without even checking... Take note: we are at least 5 to 7 meters away from that T-junction!!!
Though you've been a defensive driver all your life here in Doha, if such kind of drivers exists, no wonder why so much accidents happen.
My husband won't drive too fast because I'm pregnant and will be delivering our baby by January.
My fellow Filipinos would understand and know what nationality I am talking about. I don't want to mention who are they, but i know they can sense (if they really have senses).
I just hope these "idiots/morons/imbecile" (again sorry for the terms) drivers at least read some rules in driving and make themselves knowledgeable of the BASIC RULES OF DRIVING!
Well, i just shared this to release some irritating moods.
Safe driving to everybody! Take a lot of care (from this drivers)!

what can we do with these drivers who has no plan of educating themselves? i was told that these "road owners" can easily get out of the mess if apprehended. i was even told that law enforcers will "avoid" catching them (i hope these are not true).

so, when you are on the road, be alert, be alive, be enthusiastic. lol

these drivers really mean. pray for them dazzle...

Unlike in europe the culture of defensive driving doesnt exist .. so till it dosent become a part of evaluation for the license the attitude of the drivers wouldnt change .. I was told by a person with 30 years of driving in middle east that he failed the test in europe just because he had his wallet in his back pocket while driving.. if that becomes a reality here how many of us would pass the test !!1

too slow? i don't think so on a 5 meter distance from the junction. my hubby even blink the head lights to give caution...

Exactly! You said it:) your hubby blinked the head lights to give caution, but you should know that sometimes blinking for a car while slowing down or going slower means for the one who you are blinking for: Go ahead. He might even raise his hand to say thank you, and you will think that he is waving his hand like telling: What da fck?!. He is telling thank you for slowing down, blinking the head lights to him and let him go!:)

I am not joking. This is what it means sometimes. Depends on the situation and the speed you drive..etc

Do you know why those drivers stop 10 meters before the signal pedestrian lines? Guess why?:)

Because they think that these sensors are for the Radar and if they step on it with thier wheels, the Radar will flash on them. I am seriously talking. This is what they think. I have been told by diff drivers that these sensors are connected to the Radar and if the wheel will pass on more than specific number of lines, the Radar will flash on his car :)

I am not joking. This is thier reason. If they know the reason why these sensors are there, they would not do what they are doing. Thats why I hope that the Traffic department will explain this fact on TV and on signages on streets to aknowledge the people.

Welcome to driving in Doha, Dazzle.

Here a large portion of the population drive on the roads as if its the personal property of their dad's. The bigger your car, the more right it gives you to push everyone off the road.

The way some drive, especially during my school runs, makes me wonder if he/she plans to take us along to meet our maker.

am planning to take driving lessons so i can drive myself to work, but seeing the manner that some drivers conduct themselves everyday, just makes me discouraged to take the driving lessons... i value my life so much so i'll think about it some more... :P

Yezz..like the moron who did an illegal u-turn from the right lane (sort of) recently and crashed into me and dented my front bumper. Bad dent too.

But for a month after that, before the dent got fixed (after police report (delayed cos hit and run) and insurance issues), morons avoided me on the road. Must have thought to themselves "Ok. Better stop / not try to change lanes without looking or she'll have no qualms about walloping us". Rats! Now the car is fixed, the bullies are at it again!

There has been lots of thougts that driving in Qatar or Doha in particular is just like going into sucide, and it sure does. Its sad that these messages dosen't goes straigt into the traffic police ears or the law makers.

There's a long list of what annoys me about drivers in Qatar, but generally, I don't find it too bad. You just have to be an assertive driver. There are a lot of exceptions, but overall I see it like this. The LC's drive like crazy, but most of the time they know how to handle a car. Then you have all the indians, that has never gone faster than 60 km/h and therefore thinks that driving the Tiida at that speed in the left lane on Wholesale Market Road, is ok - oh, and changing lanes don't require you look over your shoulders. Just change lane, and preferably do it over a distance of about 2 kilometers. They to me are the most dangerous to me, as they have absolutely NO IDEA about what going on behind them...

However, if you're prepared for this, I don't find the traffic here too bad...

If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough...

i'd like to add my frustration on drivers stopping their cars 10 meters before signals pedestrian lines, blocking the right way exit and on some signals causing the green light to skip many times because they didn't press the undergroung sensors.

i had to advise many drivers to move forward so that out line signal would go green.

Yalla!

I am just guessing that maybe the driver of the other car thought that your husband slowed down or driving slow to let him go.

It could be that your husband was driving too slow because of the humbs and because you are pregnant, and the driver see you but knows that he can easily do it and turn with no accident because you are driving extremely slow, or thought that this slow motion or slowing down this much is a sign for him to turn.

anyway, it is no wonder that you or your husband will face such drivers every single day. Driving is an Art. It is not only knowing how to drive and following the rules, but how to be aware of other drivers who just got thier new license and practising thier driving or those teenager drivers, or drunk drivers...etc. Simply, care about following the rules and be aware of other drivers all the time because it will happen always.

I have my fun with them. Especially at the Center roundabout which is under construction 24 / 7. If you take the turn to pass the Center on your right, people generally try to cut infront of you and steal your lane because of the 3-lane street merging into a 2-4 lane roundabout. So what I do, I stop infront of the roundabout entry and block a couple of lanes, look at the drivers and just smile haha.

Another perfect example of this is the last roundabout on Salwa road before you hit the flyover which is almost complete woohooo!! Straight road to Saudi at last! =D

Dazzle, here's another thought. Since you're driving anyway, why not get the license. Does it get less dangerous if you drive without a license. And, if you're in a crash and hopefully everybody is ok, what would be the economical ramifications of driving without license? Can you afford to pay for a LC out of your own pocket??

It's just good that my hubby has a very fast reaction to such incidents that he was able to control the steering wheel and have the instincts of using the breaks... :)

I have a friend if someone honks at him (from the rear) puts his car in park, gets out, and asks quite politely "you wanted something?" At this point they're nearly drooling with frustration. It's quite funny to watch.
