Islamic Studies & Teaching in Doha
Hi,
My wife and I will be moving to Doha in the next few weeks/months(depending on paperwork...)
We are keen to know if anyone can assist in advising us on good places where my wife will be able to complete her Hifdhul-Quran. Also if you can let us know if there is any scope to provide Islamic studies/tuition to younger english speaking children (as she has a certificate in Islamic Studies).
Thanks for your help,
Riy

also it would be pretty cool if there is anyone who goes on a "road trip" to explore the middle-east (spicificaly tracing islamic sites etc.)... how easy it to do something like that?

Will do qatari, thanx..lili.
Glad you found it interesting - did you register? I think they need more people to register and post stories and vote in order to get the ball rolling. (i love the way you can hit the little arrows to vote a story up!)
that's interesting qatari, thanx.....
you know what ryiyour absolutly right ...Ijust remembered somthing...you can definatly give food to the guys that work in the gas stations they are very happy and greatful for it and alot of them are muslim...u know "al akraboona awla" also the construction workers and cleaning guys you find in the street.....qatar is a wealthy country but i think under the surface, if one looks and has pure intent you'll find poverty and people in need of help..lili.
Speaking of Muslim stuff, check out (and sign up) at Muslim Content. Very cool website that helps you find interesting Islamic links and allows you to vote on them.
lili... sounds like a plan... ill def. ask her to get in touch with u... still a while till she gets there though :-( i get my work visa soon and can only sponsor her after i get my residence which takes upto 6 weeks (so ive been told).... trying to see if i can bring her on a holiday visa for a bit though so she can see if she whats its like as well (make dua I get something sorted, otherwise its gona be a looooong 6weeks for me!)
the best part about collection is the actual part of going out to hand it over to people... makes you so much more thankful for what you have and its realy great to meet different people! As appose to just collecting money for an organisation, where you dont get the same experience.
You asked about charities....They do collect sadaka/zakah for a multitude of things.....orphans, Illiteracy, African relief....they also collect clothes etc....I will ask about "they" and let you know....I'm quite new to town myself ...lili.
I don't know of any social get togethers but contact me when your wife gets here and I'll be happy to show her the ropes,lol...We can all get together sometime. In sha Allah.lili.
it is always good to find like minded people all over the world i must say :-) makes moving much easier....
do you know of any social get togethers that new muslim expats may have to meet up and get to know each other? would be neat for both my wife and i to meet up with new people when we get there insha-Allah
I just want to say that i feel very serene andhappy reading all your posts....Off subgect i know but i miss talking to people who care about their islamic Knowledge and stive to do better......It's probably that time of the year where I am really home sick and can't wait to go home for a visit.......Sorry for the off topic. .lili.
the Qatar Guest Center website is: http://www.qatarguestcenter.com/
cant seem to find an email address on their though to get further details... if any of you can help out with that it would be great.
Shukran
Aisha- jazaki-Allah khairann for the info.
About Qatar Guest Centre and Bilal Philips classes. Where is this centre located? Do you have to register and join at the beginning, or can you join after they've already started?
There are arabic classes as well, and their classes are very good i have heard. But right now they have only started a new one. Just give them ur telephone number or email id and the center will contact u when they start a new course.
Even QCPI holds classes but there classes are held for 3 to 4 months and starts at a period of time, they have announced new classees but haven't started yet. They have a new premises now in the center of the city.
All of them announces in the local newspaper from time to time.
oh yeah, before i forget. Do you know of any community/social work that happens? Coming from South Africa quite a lot of things happen, like Ramadaan collections to collect food for those who do not have enough to eat, winter collections etc.
Qatar being quite a wealthy country, do you have any social programs like that to take part in or would it be purely based for international relief efforts?
shukran
Jazak-Allah khair for your help, much appreciated! Didnt even know Bilal Philips is based in Qatar, sounds pretty cool, heard a lot about him & would def. be worth attending! looking forward to attending some of his programs.
Finaly have my paperwork sorted, so should insha-Allah be coming sooon (fingers crossed) & just hope my wifes visa does not take too long to get sorted, remem us in your duas that it all goes well.
Will def. keep you posted on what happens when we get there. Thanks again.
aisha, i want to learn arabic in the part time.is it possible while doing job?
BTW, Qatar Guests center is related to the establishment of Eid Bin Muhammad Althani charity..Very nice place to work or volunteer...And ofcourse learn about your religion.I've been there they are so cool.
LiveinQatar, Yes Yes Dr Bilal Philips Oh My God I've heard a lot about him! I wish i take his courses inshallah when I have time..
Ummsumaya As I told you there is a tahfeeth center in Alkhor, Actually there are TWO! One is public ( by the ministury of Al Awqaf) and the other is private (I don’t know about it)..There might be other ones…
riy, So far ( Talking about the public tahfeeth Centers\Awqaf) It’s mainly Tahfeeth only.No tafseer.
I know an other one which is called Qatar Guest Center. Dr Bilal Philips is holding classes there. There might be Hifz classes for ladies Just check out with them. There is Friday Tafseer classes which is held after the magrib prayer (at present surah yaseen), and aqeedah classess on Saturday.
I'm sorry I was late..answers tonight for sure :-)
Salaam Aisha,
Any idea what the terms are like & what the entry requirements are for the center? Do you know if they do any tafseer along with the tahfeedh classes?
Shukran for your help
I don't know dear , But I'll know by tonight :-) I'll ask for you inshallah..You mean center for thahfeedh, right? Because I don't think there is something else there...I haven't heard of it before..
Anddd They are not strict, I'm sorry I used that word. It's just that they don't allow carelessness..But they are very understanding though...Worry not!
Salam Aisha,
Do you know if they have an Islamic centre new Al-Khor?
Also, do they tend to be children friendly, or strictly for ladies only?
Well, I think it's almost the same way everywhere. First the teacher reads it all..Then the whole class repeat after her (all together) and then each and every student read from the book alone and the teacher corrects. The next time they meet each and every student read what they have taken after they have memorized it by heart.
About being strict, Well I'm not a good example of a student. I had to be absent several times because of my freakin university sooo I felt like everyone was better than and me and I sadly left.I'll be back as soon as I graduate. Next year insha Allah.. You know seeking knowledge in Islam is holy too..
Soo forget about what I said about being strict. As long as she attend classes on time and do not miss them she’ll be fine :-D
Shukran for your reply - i will insha Allah look into that centre when i get there. I am curious however, perhaps you may know, the method they use in their classes for memorizing qur'aan. Is it a personalized one-on-one type or more class orientated? You mention thay are very strict, do tell me more about what you mean by that.
Do you know of anyone who has/is studying there, whom i could possibly contact.
Shukran
Salam Riy :-)
There are places for your wife to complete her Tahfeedh :-) Take for example: Eid bin Muhammed Al Thani Charity\woman branch, and the so many centers all around the country. It depends on where you live. Transportations are available too. All free. But there are lists and registration time. Also, they are strict on rules. Hope she'll survive ;-) Coz the waiting lists get full too!
There is an Indian lady I know who goes there though she doesn't speak Arabic! BUT , if your wife doesn't speak Arabic I recommend her to join the one in Qatar Center of Presentation of Islam , in Doha. They are non speakers of Arabic. So things will be much easier to her.
About your wife..Hummmm,I’m thinking of the private schools of specific colonies like the Pakistanis, Indians..etc.I think we have group of students from Comoros islands too,,
Or maybe she can work in Qatar Center of Presentation of Islam, The one I mentioned above. If couldn’t, they perhaps will tell her where else she can apply.Nice friendly people there..
May Allah bless you..
