It's not racism, it's control
Sometimes I only think having to tell a situation as a racist remark only give themselves pride to their own country or take advantage of their own bad attitude. They hide their own ugliness by being 'knowledgeable' and supportive of human rights.
I cannot say the thing that happened days ago in Souq was racism. It's only a means to control them. It's the country's family day. Give the families a chance. There're other places for them all to meet...but not always there.
See what happens afterwards? They continue selling several merchandises in wide open. Uncontrollable. They do not stop till now. They continue to take advantage of what started from Eid days ago...like everyday was Eid...all because we 'gave' them human rights.
Somebody's belief for human rights should not be used for their own human wrongs.
I was there 2 days ago on a friday. I too was rejected entry. But I saw swams of arab and western guys walking in and out. The guards told us only Chinese, Indian and Pakistan guys are not allowed in. Aparently Arab and western guys can over ride this so called "Family Day"
We were all well dressed in pants and closed toed shoes and we did not look like construction workers. In fact we were here on invite by e prince of doha to organise an economic freedom award presentation. Such discrimination is shameful. In any other country, the management of the building will be in trouble.
I am from Singapore and we have 1/3 of our population making up of muslims and we work, eat and play together all the time. This is the first time I am experienced racisim from muslims.
Never coming back again. Not to Doha, not to the Middle East. Good luck on building tourism with policies like this.
wow...just wow...
It's scary to think they are opening a gun shop in Villagio with the attitude some people have towards the poorer expats here.
Sum up all my posts in this thread and find the real reason for the detail. It ends up that my title heading is the last conclusion to all of it and my topic as the last summed-up paragraph to the idea...
...and casanova, I'm very disappointed that I have met you. I only say what I say and I don't care whether you think I'm grabbing attention or not or nobody replies or they delete my threads or posts, funny or not.
And I said Souq only. I didn't include the malls and the zoo.
I myself am a bachelor and I know the news about family day and I know what to do. I expected the outcome. They didn't (the mob).
And again, as I said, IT...IS...JUST...CONTROL OF THE SITUATION!
Everyone of you go out a little more, please, and understand all the details and experience it. I will not post such topics, funny or not, if it does not come from experience.

in this case you are included in my remark to that moron, nc.
You know...the remark about religion, values, real fathers...etc.
why cant you understand the words they you type, yourself?
Do I need to give you english lessons?
I showed you your stupity in an earlier post here, and I had you shut up, and I dont mind doing it again. Here goes (2nd time):
first you say:
"I am not sure who the "us" and "you" are...."
Then you say:
"It is obvious that he assumes WE have no religion"
duhh???
If you don't know the "us" & "you" how can it be SOOOO "obvious" to you that I am accusing "YOU" of having no religion???
As for:
"I guess it is true, give a dog any bone and he will run with it"
You have to know that dogs & bones are MY line here. Don't steal it! You have to wait until I through you a bone!
Hehehe, wind him up and he gurgles BS...

I get it now, you dont read english Abu, or perhaps your comprehension skills are poor. You are the only poster who twists his own words to be at an advantage.
YOU said "the diffrence between us and you"
YOU said "it is people like you (this being directed at the poster you were replying to) who "will end up not knowing who your real father is..."
I guess it is true, give a dog any bone and he will run with it.

Actually guys, it is better to ignore Abu, his posts are so filthy most are removed by the mod, and he makes no logical sense. It is obvious that he assumes we have no religion and that we
"will end up not knowing who your real father is (even if you think that you know him, but he is not the REAL father. I can assure you about this)"
Jazakallah kheiran Abu.

How has religion anything to do with this? All socieites and religions have slavery, racism and caste systems in their past.
go Azilana!!! you are right?
I'm just wandering how heero makes his posts interesting for everyone... scratching balls is still fresh in my mind.. hehehe.. *peace!

exactly my words , and you are the moron for been religious freak you fool , why do you freaks have to always hide behind religion to have any kind of debate its freaks like you the world can do without ,have a nice day weon
I would say what happened in the Souqs is a result of the heavily enforced "caste" system here. The labourers are on the lowest level of the caste system here and therefore are treated badly and not allowed into the same areas as those on the higher level. Race is just one of the ways people on the lowest level are recognized. Clothing and hygenie are another.
yeah right what rock are u living under buddy LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL love your unbiased opinions and what the f@#t has religion once again has to do with this ,,,,, George carlin was right Religion is Bs
lol janey..... he never came back here did he...
I remember 7aaseb.
seems discussions ending up in insults is inevitable here.... sad.. :(
Ok, I'm definitely bowing out of this one if people are going to start throwing insults around instead of debating the issue sensibly. See ya.
"There is absolutely no racism in Qatar or in any other muslim country."
lol أبوبابو - that's a good one! Racism exists all over the world. You clearly have a very narrow minded view of things, so much so that it doesn't really seem worth debating this issue with you.
"if they had money they wouldn't be here as "asian WORKERS.." What would they be then? Asian tourists?
Abu, you said clearly, and I quote
"If "those asian workers" have "lots" of money to spend at malls, they would not remain in Qatar as "asian workers"!!! Or they'd be living in differet lifestyle in Qatar, wearing different cloths, having wives or girlfriends, which will allow them to be within the "family society"
How is this not saying that if they had money they wouldnt be here, even as singles? Perhaps you should read your own words.
"Diplomacy is the art of saying 'Nice doggie' until you can find a rock - Will Rogers"
get your posts but ... what do you mean by giving them human rights? The right of setting under the sun, in the humidity of the weather with an escalator weighing the people for 50 drhms only??? If this guy and others got their rights, right ... you won't find them doing these odd jobs during the eid ... not for earning extra money, but maybe to feed themselves only ...
Try to live their life for a week and I'm sure you will give up and go back to your country ...
Talking about Family day ... I don't know which days are family days, which areas are family areas ... It is the family day? You think that these people are playing the whole week and outside having fun, while it's only the families that work all the week and deserve a day to enjoy themselves?
Many places just turned like that into family places, go there and check where are those families? You can see none ... so is that fair to make it like that?
I would understand it if the whole week would be General and two days like Thursday and Friday would be for families, but ... the whole week?
Talking here about some parks that has basketball and football courts ...
I never seen any family that gone too excited to play a football match, the guy is married to two ladies ... so everyone got her children in a team and he is the referee who is trying to patch tings up in the battlefield .. oouch sorry the play ground.
Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment. (Gautama Buddha)
lol, are you serious Abu?
"Diplomacy is the art of saying 'Nice doggie' until you can find a rock - Will Rogers"
Abu, what Alexa meant was this.... I can assure you that no Qataris or Westerners were flogged by the police stick on these family days. I can only comment on these specific groups as these are family experiences, not sure about other nationalities. This is indeed racism.
It is also not true that if they had money they wouldnt be here as singles, if you know the schemantics of a majority of Asian companies even the mamagers do not bring their families with them as this is a temporary working arrangement.
"Diplomacy is the art of saying 'Nice doggie' until you can find a rock - Will Rogers"
No, being racist doesn't mean you have to apply the discrimination to every single member of that race. The act of stopping just 1 person doing something because of their race is an act of racism.
really...
I wish I could just pretend you're MIR83 so I could easily ignore you...
You're MUCH WORSE THAN Mir83, Sputnik and Cutesrk combined...
but aak, it's really bachelors you see... coz they call us bachelorettes...
aak, single ladies are "potential" families. That's why they let them in.
I demand a "Bachelor Day" every week in major shopping malls and parks. I will leave my family home and enjoy being a bachelor.
How come single ladies enjoy the "family Day" .. Ah it is not Bachelors, it is only single men,,,,
I am confused....what do we want to do...
...You can't mean what you say unless you can say what you mean...
CONCLUSION ..... It's their country they had right to do it...
i knew it! the moment i saw the thread title....Heero...
" they didn't give way for the families" Why should they? Do families have more rights than singles? Someone else said they shouldn't be there because they don't buy anything. Do those with money have more rights than those without? Neither opinion is necesarily racist, but it is definitely wrong! People should be allowed to go where they want as long as they are not hurting others (staring doesn't hurt or many women would be dead by now)
I know HERO ... you create such topics to grab some attention...
but its not funny enough of you to laugh on all the times.

A love these posts...
Firstly, if the FAMILIES are getting a day of celebration, then the next social group to get one should be the people on Facebook. We'll have a Facebook day, and if you're not on it, stay at home - the whips are ready...
'Can't the Facebookers have a day without other people being there? Three days... is that too much to ask?'
Racism? My driver told me I might not get into Villagios on Friday... being single. Well, in the end I walked straight in, but they didnt let the Sri Lanka guy through who walked in at the exact same moment as me. So, yeah, no racism there.
ALEXA - what a moment, I agree with you! :) Fancy that.
It is essentially capitalism but I think we're going to have to go the long way round to demonstrate it.
The prominence and the promotion of the family unit is a form of class control.
Any high school sociology student will tell you that if a worker has a family to support, (using the word 'worker' to describe all people earning a wage - that includes the carpet factories with rows of people staring at computer screens) then that worker is more likely to do what his boss demands, and less likely to strike.
A worker who is single has more strength at the workplace because they are only responsible for themselves - if they walk out, the family doesnt starve.
Where religion is a key weapon of the ruling class (where religion is a dominant force in a society: e.g. Catholic/Islamic societies) the family is promoted with senseless prohibitions such as safe sex outside of marriage.
Qatar is a rigorously-controlled society - that's right, a dictatorship, remember. That's why the family is such a big deal here - to control all the people.
I can imagine how people might respond to this, if any answers surprise me, I'll reply.
this is exactly what i meant when i said everyone of us is a racist at heart. you find your euphemisms and categorizations, but the fact remains.
They do not...and that doesn't give way to those who can spend their time with their families that will buy anything at Souq.

yeah why are we putting up with this discrimination for a tax free salary. we have no rights we have nothing the place is expensive as hell the weather sucks it completely boring place to live 1 cm from the sun plus the attitude of local people is not nice. now u can make more money in other parts of the world if u have good experience. time to move now for me...cant handle cr...p mentality anymore and looking at this racism all the time and being a second grade citizen. ask those people who spend all there life here in these countries they have to go one day back thre is no retirement plan..america britain infact all other countries are better then this one..
coming back so one day if hero u stink and i walk by you i have the right to kick yo ass aint it???
the things people put up with for a tax-free salary.
Oryx, do you mean "right" as the opposite of "left" or "wrong"?
but we all know that Hero is a 'right thinking member'!
TallG the thing is people weren't banned from certain countries but form certain continents.... asia, africa and middle east...
so mmmmmmmm i think it is financial discriminataion...at the malls
and at the corniche easy peasy... half for families only the other half for bachelors...
so you smell with your heart, heero? Hmmm.
Minor incidents can lead to major disasters.
I genuinely fear what may unfold on the streets at the souks if this stand-off continues. Mobs behave in irrational ways...the people trying to 'control' them can themselves get out of control. I have seen this happen in the U.K. It's not pretty.
If there was ever serious trouble (and I hope that never does happen) what might the resultant crackdown bring?
Maybe I'm looking towards a worst-case scenario...but it's not beyond comprehension that it could happen.
They were too close. Can't hardly move, I say. Took me minutes to walk on the corner park and cross the other side of the road...
...hence the (Ugh!) odor. You'll get fainted if you're weak-hearted...
"Everything in this book may be wrong." Illusions: The Adventures of The Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach
How do you move "improperly", heero? Too close to somebody, eh?
Fascism is waaay too much. I was just speaking about 'control' over the situation...and the aftereffects of not 'controlling' it.
"Everything in this book may be wrong." Illusions: The Adventures of The Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach
It doeant matter how you try to justify it, it plain wrong...
They just didn't give way to the families who want to visit Souq. It was crowded. Almost anyone can hardly move properly from one place to another.
"Everything in this book may be wrong." Illusions: The Adventures of The Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach
Heero...I can't quite believe a right thinking member of a civilied society wrote the paragraph below.
"Now, without anyone to 'control' them, the crab mentality will follow. They will continue getting used to having themselves too 'free' to roam the streets without prejudice to sell even the pirated CD's."
This reads like a charter for fascism. You refer to the victims of the incidents at the souk as if they are insects you can crush beneath your boot if the mood so takes you. This kind of thinking proved extremely dangerous in Germany between 1939 and 1945.
Or perhaps you have a very different interpretation of modern central European history. I'm afraid I find your rationalisation of souk incidents deeply unsettling.
Stork.
Voilence and Racism are both curse. I liked someone commented that they can make these people understand so there is no need to use voilence.
We are just beating around the bush we all know how qatari treat expats its plain and simple.
what happened at the souq is completely wrong and any attempt to find positive in this action is according to me a lame attempt to justify racism.
what authorities should have done also was to have 1 day for enjoyment of workers also. they are human also and they work in worse working conditions then most of the people and they are not allowed to visit there families for 2 or 3 years plus we all know no one pay them there wages also so among all this if on a day of EID (A day where all types of vices or haterd should be kept aside) that particular day poor people get to live such treatment.
i say what a shame.....
I can't believe we're having to discuss what constitutes racism. Here's the last I have to say on it;
If someone is discriminated against because of their race, for whatever reason, it's racism.
So, if men from certain countries are denied entry to somewhere because they have no money, they stare at women, they take up too much room or whatever, then it's racism.
Family days themselves are not racist, because in theory it means ALL bachelors cannot go somewhere. But it's not enforced that way - only bachelors from certain countries are denied entry. That's the racist part of it.
And it's not the act of whipping or hitting these people that makes it racist. That just makes it worse. The simple act of denying them entry is racist.
"Everything in this book may be wrong." Illusions: The Adventures of The Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach
No, their lack of money may be the cause of the racism
I lack money, but I don't wanna go there to meet up with almost eeeeveryone...
Money does not say anything about racism. It's the race. You only thought it was racism because one common race usually meet up over there.
"Everything in this book may be wrong." Illusions: The Adventures of The Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach
Do you mean that "the physical crowd control" is not racism? Who said it was?
What the people are reacting to are "the manner" of how the authorities impose the crowd control. It's NOT RIGHT to whip/hit/shove anyone just because you want them to follow the directives.
Would you just scratch your head and walk away when someone hurt you? I don't think so.
I just wish you won't be at the receiving end of the souq police's baton...coz then you will realize what it would be like...
Somebody's taking advantage of the "discriminated against because of their race" description too.
Now, without anyone to 'control' them, the crab mentality will follow. They will continue getting used to having themselves too 'free' to roam the streets without prejudice to sell even the pirated CD's...
"Everything in this book may be wrong." Illusions: The Adventures of The Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach
No, their lack of money may be the cause of the racism (among other things), but the actual act of not letting them in is racist.
we are all racists at some level. however much we try and deny it.
It only becomes racist when you sympathize for the people that was hurt and you go against the enforcers and say it was 'inhumane'.
That's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read. An act of racism is an act of racism, regardless of how others perceive it.
I think you need to check the meaning of racism. If someone is discriminated against because of their race - i.e. not being allowed to go somewhere where others can - then that's racism.
It's human nature.
But in the souq situation days ago, I think they did it right...
It's only control of the situation. It only becomes racist when you sympathize for the people that was hurt and you go against the enforcers and say it was 'inhumane'.
"Everything in this book may be wrong." Illusions: The Adventures of The Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach
but jsut coz they r the law enforcers doesnt make them right always. does it?
Police take action, reaction happens.
"Everything in this book may be wrong." Illusions: The Adventures of The Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach
...when the words related to 'hurt' becomes a sympathy for the masses...
...plus it was you who said 'certain race' so now it sounds racism...
"Everything in this book may be wrong." Illusions: The Adventures of The Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach
SO in ur context, its Eid only for those who have families. n the ones who are lonely shudnt celebrate Eid. They cant go to parks, no shopping centres, not souq waqif. so wht do u want these ppl to do, meet on the roads? i m not saying that there shudnt be a family day, but cumon all the 3 days!!!! There shud be sum fairness in the system. 2 days family and give one day for everyone. N if u r so bothered abut not mingling with them. y dont u go sumwhere ele. Nice suggestion isnt it? U cannot justify the inhumane treatment tht happd. there can never be justification for such behaviour. n this is a 3rd world country. atleast with such a high GDP , u can hardly call Qatar a 3rd World country. Can you? and as human beings how can we say tht it was right. If they dotn understand the language, get sumone who can make them understand / speaks their language. Theres always a solution for a problem, u jsut need to find it. Violence has never been the solution and it never will be.
I always find it hard to understand your writing, but I think you're saying that denying entry to men of a certain race isn't racism, correct?
