I have been offered recently a job with an engineering consulting company based in Doha and they offered me QR19000 base salary+hosuing of QR8000 (or fully furnished company flat)+ car allowance QR3000+medical+family air tickets every year.
if possible (depends on my wife's skills) they gonna offer her a job as well (she is a lawyer basically).

Hi Han
Im terrible with GK..terrible....but, im sure that ther is a REC in Kurukshetra as well...correct me if im wrong...im not really aware of the opportunities for women in middle east especially field oriented...
Yes, i do agree with you the fact that the experience and qualifications never let us down...i guess, it is also depends on which company u r gonna work for..coz, one of my childhood friend who works in Kuwait (graduated from BITS Pilani) is drawing a salary of 1500/month local currency and he is always complaining about it as LOW..just because he is working for a local company, he has been offered that number...
Im landing in Qatar on 2nd of March and i was told that the 1st month would be very hectic with residence permit issues, drivers licence blah blah blah...
anyways, im terribly hungry now...im going home to have my lunch and catchup with u soon...its been lovely chatting with you...thanks
krishna
not kurukshetra dear..........its karnataka.
you are right in what you say....but here its still a slightly limited option for women working in field...while mine is a totally field oriented job.i missed out on a couple of options earlier becasue of being a woman.
but the scenario is changing today.
right time.right place and the right job could be fine.
right now....the place is my little kiddies masha'allah.couldnt be happier.
the consolation always is that although the pay may not be gr8 to start off again...but the qualification and experience wont let you down.what do you say?
and if you are leaner and flexible to grasp new stuff, hard worker, then the world is your oyster....

Sounds good to me...Yes, i have heard about KREC (should be Kurukshethra right??)...Yes, u r right...we should always consider the opportunities which are coming in our way and should validate whether they gonna benefit us in lon run both career and financially...in your case, i should say you have done the right thing...
I think at the moment, for environmental engineers (water, urban design etc)Qatar is the right place and u can take advantage of this scenario...at the moment im having 5 yrs of experience in this field and may be i will work for 5 more years in abroad then go back to my country as the current market for civil engineers is really good and they r paying ver well...but, my wife always prefer going USA (i should consider that one as well in 3yrs time)..
let us see how it goes...
cheers
krishna
hi krish,
my qualification goes like this:
have done my BE in metallurgical engineering from KREC, must have heard of that :-D and then did my MTECH from the same college in Industrial Pollution Control which comes under Chemical Engineering.oh yes i have heard of IIT....who wouldnt?
so as an engineer I will be into design and prevention....but other wise I am into all fields of environment.....air, water, soil, GW. everything.
when i was studying we only had masters degree in that field...and candidated from civil, metallugy, chemical and mechanical qualified for it.so i jumped onto that chance.so for employment....i qualify as ..........ooh masha'allah lots:-D
besides that i have worked as a planning engineer and in environment and quality.unrelated yet so related.
currently am a full time mom...thinking of taking up a suitable placement when the right time comes.

Good to see your posting again...Thanks for your offer for helping me out with this new move...
Yeah, Im a native Indian did my schooling, education everything from Indian universities and then got placement in abroad after my graduation from IITMadras (must have heard about this institute)....I did my Btech and PG in environmental engineering with water modelling as my specialisation and worked in Germany, UK, NZ etc..after gaining significant amount of experience in this modelling field, now i am thinking of some financial benefits and as we all know that Middle east is the place to go...
at the moment im working for www.aecom.com in UK.
and gonna work with www.keoic.com in Qatar
It is bit interesting to know about your background as u have mentioned that you are basically an metallurgical engineeer and practising as a chemical engineer...so interesting...how could you manage the principles of environmental engineering because you are not a core env. engineer..very brave and talented it seems...
regarding my medicals: our new company has got their own private insurance and medical services...if something happens like any serious ill or medical visits or surgery or similar to that, then company would pay 90% of the costs and rest should be by us...not a bad deal....
coming to my personnel end, i have got a wonderful wife who is a lawyer and she may take up a job with my new employer soon if she is very keen...let us see what happens....
keep in touch, my e-mail id is: [email protected]
you are welcome and if you have any other queries...do let me know... will try to help you out.
are u native indian working out for the past few years or you have been out all along?
yup me is environment engineer....more precisely industrial pollution control as a discipline of chemical engineering after having done metallurgy engineering :-D
what about you?whats your engineering background?
mind telling which company this is.
most indians...majority are surviving here in 10000qrs...all inclusive...so your pay packat is masha'allah very good.usually in such pay scales schools are taken care of...but its still wiser to confirm.
also confirm how is the medical they are covering?is it insurance or you have to go to the govt hospital hamad for any treatment. do they their own clinic.
hamad is an excellant hospital but its like any govt hospital...people prefer to go to private but its very expensive.
having gone to hamad hospital so many times....i am fine with it......but its always better for you to ensure you are covered if you decide to go elsewhere for treatment.

Everyone sounding similar like to go with the FF company flat....it is good to take advises from people like you who are already in Qatar to understand the realestate fever and other issues...
I will have a word with my new employer as soon as i have my forst meeting with them regarding the school, eductaion etc....
Han, it looks like you are also an environmental engineer...me too an env. engineer with water as my specialisation....
thanks very much
krish
your offer is really nice, masha'allah.
and it they give your wife a job as well....then its very nice.
but opt for a fully furnished accomodation.rents keep rising...let it be the company headache to shell out that amount.
also ask them about school fees....when you decide to have kids and want to put them in school. better have it clear now than suffer later...although i dont think you will suffer much....looking at your basic salary:-D
all the best pal.

Hi abc150 and helloqatar,
thanks for your advise and appreciate your comments on housing and education.
I have no children yet so i am not worried about the education, schools etc at the moment...regarding the housing, as you guys advised i should go with the company offer...
once again thanks for ur comments..
cheers
krish
That is a good offer but abc150 is right, take the housing, not much available for QR8,000. Also right about education, good schools charge more money.
Are we having fun YET?
It is a very good offer. Dont take housing assistance. Instead opt for a furnished appt since house rents are very high here. Rest of the offer is excellent. But what about children education. Schools ar every expensive here. Ask them to give you full education assistance in British school.
