Last year, when we went to Kerala, we had a desert called payasam (sorry if I misspelled it). It was vermicelli cooked in a nice sweet cream sauce. I think it had some cashew nuts in it as well, can't remember exactly, but I do remember it was delicious!
Can I find that here in Doha? If so, where?
Its called kheer.....and congrats you got the ingredients correct...lol
And its prepared by all Indian, Nepali, Pakistani & Afghani families, especially during Eid.
I wonder if Kheer is also common among arabs?
Indian Veg Restaurants like Aryas, Bharat & Shalimar make kheer but on different days they make different kheer eg sunday - vermicily kheer, monday-rice kheer, tuesday-something else...etc. So you have to make sure that they have the "Vermicili-Kheer" on their menu-for-the-day.
You could get it also in Prestige Restaurant, Airport road, Famous Restaurant (Najma) etc but next week during Onam (Probably you will find a lot of ads in newspapers when they serve onam feast...)
Try Aryaas, but i guess they serve payasam as a side dish. But still you can try in there.

So... is it kheer or payasam? I mean, are they exactly the same desert?

Fatcat....the easiest way would be to ask any Indian, Nepali, Pakistani or Afghani family to make it for you.
Its tastes best when it has that Ghee-like flavour and smell.
You could get it also in Prestige Restaurant, Airport road, Famous Restaurant (Najma) etc but next week during Onam (Probably you will find a lot of ads in newspapers when they serve onam feast...)
