Only having moved here to Doha, from Abu Dhabi, its a bit early to tell.
I did have a better style of life in Abu Dhabi than I did in Australia - and was quite happy there. Whether I am happier though, that is different, I would say the same, if a little less than home.
So far, and when my wife and baby arrive, I think it will be better than UAE, if only due to better salary and benefits.
dracula: that is so sad.,.but aleast try to have a life here.,.find real friends and company.,.it would help you to give a better quality of life while your family is not around.,.

I am especially interested in this subject as a friend of mine is trying real hard to migrate to Australia or Canada. Her view is that you cannot have a good house, good car, etc in India and so on.... I really get confused as I think the other way round. In your hometown you can dare to do anything you want, as it is sort of permanent. You do not have to worry about the passport validity, VISA status, job security etc.
I feel the best when I go to India and see the society and areas I grew up in. When I see the tree I planted 15 years back standing tall.
We talk about mosquitoes, heat,lack of 24/7 water and electricity supply,the "local" people(our own) we cannot handle, the corrupt system,the rugged roads, etc.
But we happily bear the heat in the Middle east, snow in the west, do not mind the abrupt cut of power in the countries we stay where the weather is extreme,do not know how a "local" is, happily drive on in the busiest and dangerous roads in other parts of the world and daily get up and sweep the snow to pull out the car.
Our children cannot "handle" anything when we go for vacation. We look for wordly comfort and go around the world, when the pasture might have been genuinely green in your homeland.
I am aware of many who can afford to have a better jobs, standard of living, and better schools and higher education. They stay way from their homeland and society to have more privacy and peace of mind!
For the family in our home country YES...it help a lot to lift up a litle bit their quality of living. But for us who stay here to work and work and send money..it's difficult but needed....no other better choice eh.

Emigrating to Canada or Australia is different from living in the Middle East. Most are here on a "temporary" basis (no matter how long that may be).
People emigrate for different reasons, but usually to make a better life for themselves and their family for the long term.
Most expats are in the Middle East just to make that extra cash and return to their homeland.
