In UK. My husband has been offered work as an technical director and camera operator with Al Jazeera. Accomodation is included, utility bvills covered. Salary @ £30,000. We have 2 children, 9yr & 18m. We're excited by the offer, it's about the same as here but with free accom, bills and cheap petrol seems appealing. Is it enough to live comfortably, pay school fees and domestic help? I should also say that I have MS and find I need a lot of help with children, housework etc. What are facilities like for anyone who has mobility issues? Also does the school "weekend" generally tie in with the working week? And how do you find the heat?

It looks like you have a great ex-pat community going, would be grateful for the benefit of your experience

Hiya

I am also looking at a potential job in doha. And one of my main factors is that I suffer from chronic fatigue and the thought of a maid is very enticing. I currently have to pay a cleaner to come to the house 2 times a week (at an excellent price) here in the uk.

My mothers 2nd cousin was married to Annette funicello who is a public sufferer of MS. If you do move to Qatar.. And me as well.. then I would be happy to give you a hand. ..

May Allah make it better for you. InshAllah ameen.

Working at Al Jazeera as a TD, 30K is OK but you should try for 35K. The ceiling for that job is 40K but don't tell them I told you.

Don't do anything until the schooling situation has been sorted out. There are rumours that its will fully paid, but you could be unlucky and end up having to pay towards the fees.

Remember back when I signed up school fees were FULLY paid, so if you are not offered that or at least heavily subsidized then don't sign up.

The American school could cost you upto 10K a year. Also note the long waiting list to get your kids into a school.

OK so get that sorted, then and ignoring all the recent publicity about the channel, you will enjoy it.

As loads of people are leaving you will have your pick of Villas and the team he will be working with are young but a good laugh.

Good Luck

The salary seems a bit low. 35K would be more like it. Accommodation is provided and that's essential and from I hear from the Al Jezeera expats the standard is normally good. However eduction is a big thing. If its not provided, then it will be expensive for you, plus the schools are full. Check to see if you can get you kid in first.

Apart from that its a great place to live and if you come on the right sort of package you will save a lot. Ask your husband to negotiate.....

The offer is annual. Monthly, I wouldn't be asking, I promise you! And no school fees not included. This amount of money is OK here in UK because my sone goes to a church school and we have family support with children etc. Maybe not so great huh?

30000 pound a month or a year? if a month, s*** that a lot of money, u can live very comfortably here in doha. no need worry about anything. you can even have 5 maids for you.

I read it as school not being paid for. n that case you need to think. School is expensive, so knock off 7000 pounds. Really need to question schooling, credical age to move child, but you know better than anyone. Expat life can be hard on a teenager. Just depends on f there out going or not.

Otherwise, for families, excellent place to live, domestic help, full time, live in or out. 2000QR a month roughly.

Heat not an issue, A/C everywhere.

dweller.....the excitment tells me its per month & not annual.

But at least the accomodation is provided!!!

Its GBP 2500 for 1 month rent of a Villa if you are luckey to find one.

+ water + electricity. Taxi fare is GBP 2 minimum fare....etc.

Ok the Petrol is cheap. Its actually cheaper than water.

Here Car-washes use petrol to wash cars as its cheaper than water.

Ok the last bit was a joke.

do your sum carefully. But at least the most expensive part living as an expat in Doha such as housing and schooling are covered.

its a very comfortable life, school days and workdays end and start together, local facitilites are always present. there is a large expat community here, you can live good with the proposed salary specially that you have the accomodation, bills and schools paid by Al Jazeerah
