Man charged with assault with sandwich

DOVER — A Berwick, Maine, man turned himself into police Friday afternoon on a simple assault warrant alleging that he threw a sandwich at a deli clerk last weekend.

Capt. Michael Raiche said the incident happened Oct. 17 at Duston's Bakery & Deli on Portland Avenue.

Forty-year-old Thomas Goulet entered the store and ordered a few sandwiches. Raiche said the clerk prepared the sandwich for Goulet's son but had questions about Goulet's order. However, Goulet was on the phone and she couldn't ask those questions so she proceeded to do other job functions while she was waiting for Goulet to get off the phone, according to Raiche.

Raiche said Goulet became angry when he got off the phone and saw that his sandwich wasn't finished and called her a vulgar name.

"He then took the sandwich that was already made for his son and threw it at her face," Raiche said.

The clerk was struck in the face, but unhurt by the flying sandwich, which police have yet to identify.

drmana, I agree with you to some extent, provided the law system is not flawed, penal code listing crimes updated, maintained and enforced fully without an inclination to certian class of people in the society. Finally, the verdict should be in accordance with the applicable laws without leaving completely to the discretion of the Judges and political pimps.

Thanks LK...that means even a verbal threat can count as an assault. If that is applied here, I think the courts will be busy sorting numerous such cases here.

drmana, Assault,is the threatening of a victim, generally verbal. Although assault does not include the actual touching of the victim, the victim believes that he/she is being threatened and in danger of being harmed. Whereas in the case of an insult, your ego is bruised, your pride is hurt, you have been shown powerless and diminished in some way, and you are hurt and mad as hell!

Did he club (sandwich) him around the head?

Did he escape via the Subway?

Before he attacked did he says 'Let's Roll'?

Did the Police Grill him?

Did he say 'lettuce go, I ham innocent'?....
