CMC wants men banned from lingerie shops
Web posted at: 4/4/2007 2:37:2
Source ::: The Peninsula doha • A meeting of the outgoing Central Municipal Council (CMC) has sought a ban on employing men in shops selling lingerie for women. The meeting approved a proposal given by a member of the Council in this regard and decided to forward it to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture. Mohammed Hamoud Al Shafi, who brought the proposal said, he had received several complaints from women on the issue. Men employees working in lingerie shops as well as tailoring outlets catering exclusively to women have become a source of trouble for the women going there, he added.

He noted that some of the neighbouring countries, Kuwait for instance, has already imposed a ban on employing men in such shops. The CMC meeting felt that a similar ban is necessary in Qatar in conformity with its cultural and religious traditions.

I have some experience with this thing, I bought a nice evening dress in city center and tried on. Then I can't make the zip work, I need some help but because the worker there was a men I cannot asked him to help me.

With Lingerie shops, so far I come crossed with Ladies worker in shops. So no problem. This is a good thing that they start banned men work in Lingerie or tailoring shops. Although I feel sad that this men will lose their job. But what to do?

Many people want & need to come to Middle East to work. Men ususally are the money-makers for their familes overseas. Thus, they are sometimes faced to sell female stuff. :(

I think no men selling lingerie is common sense, as I said before, you don't see it anywhere else in the world but the Middle East, which is kind of funny if you think about it. :D

This is just a ridiculous debate ending nowhere as it calls for a lot of subjective judgement and analysis. Its their land and let them have it their way Its their choice.....

This is funny.I think it is good though. The women sales staff make the women feel more comfortable. I usually go with my wife because some of those guys working in the tailors are creepy.

A role reversal time, I was taking a class at the Galleria in Houston. So one of my coworkers drags me into Victoria Secret with him to buy something for his wife. I guess he was feeling bashful.

I think nothing of it though, just keep your head down right, wrong. As I walk in I start getting stares like what is he doing in here. I walk past a mirror and look. I am in a thobe. I guess they didn't get many Muslims in thobes in there. I don't know who felt more uncomfortable me or the ladies sales staff after that.

Rayzz men lingerie shopping for there wives is like wanting a death wish unless your wife is an eternal size 2 or hasn't had kids yet. Imagine telling the salesperson she looks about that big. I guess thats how they came up with the thong. A husband went lingerie shopping for his wife and came back with the wrong size so he played it off as the lastest fashion. She didn't want to hurt his feelings at how uncomfortable it was so she pretended to like it. The things people do for fashion :-) Sorry ladies for being so crude but my motto is honey here is the gift certificate or money surprise me.

Act your age not your shoe size

I hope they activate that decision because most girls don’t feel comfortable, AT ALL..

When we ( don’t ask who we are :-D ) can’t buy straightforwardly we say we’re buying a gift for someone else and it hurts us that we lie but it takes the shyness away..!!

u dont need to fly to dubai. only male employees are banned not customers. dont u think the female staff will prove to be more helpful in chosing the right item for ur girl!

i would prefer if my man takes advice from a lady while purchasing something for me!!

I am thinking about designing males only malls & females only malls having these shops:

-Female stuff shops for male shoppers.

-Male stuff shops for female shoppers

-Male stuff shops for male shoppers.

-female stuff stores for female shoppers.

Dear all,

It is always good to know about the traditions of a country prior to visiting & working in that country. Qatar is not a stable country. Traditions are important here. Be prepared if you are working in a position that is unfamous in certain countries.

What if I want to buy sexy lingerie for my girl? Do I have to fly to Dubai for that?

i think its ok to respect the feminity of women... not being touched here or there by a tailor or a sales person trying to fit a bikinni on someones back.... or holding hands right at the nipples of a a lady and then raising a sound of 36 inches to make her blush...., putting hands on thighs are saying is it ok or more tight... hahahah

But as long as men like me get to go in to buy a nice gift froma lingerie shop for a beautiful lady.. its OK... well there might be some trouble in explaining the sales women about ur choice and it might me more inconvienent for them to deal with a male customer and deal with him.

But fo rthe larger intrest, the interest of the women sales person seems sacrifised...

Well MALE SALES PERSON LINGERIE SHOPS FOR MEN WHO WANNA BUY THEM FOR THEIR LADIES!!!!!!!! OOOpsss ... so every1 getting caught and knows who bought a new one..!

Ideal is to keep a male sales person , who could be a floating resource, and can tackle male customers which seldom come occassionaly.

Ducky,

" If this were not the middle east, i'd agree about hiring men in such an occupation, but this IS the middle east - need I say more?"

no, probably not : )

Do you know what's funny. In all the lingerie stores I've been in, in Canada, the US, England, France, Italy, Korea, Japan, etc. None of them have ever had a male staff member. Not even in department stores. Why did they ever hire them here?

By ducky• 4 Apr 2007 10:41

primarily, women are the main shoppers for lingerie and they would feel more comfortable with a female salesperson.

for men to buy lingerie for their woman. they know what they wanted their woman look like privately. I saw so many in Singapore and western country that men are buying those. Why they have to be shy? its sexy..

but for sure its li'bit difficult to employ a guy at this shop at least if you are gay. But nothing wrong with gay either..i love them. they are very good friend! easy to trust..

i mean in the shops dont bother me too much, i mean they are there buying presents for their lady ( well i hope), but theres this guy who works in there and the way he looks at you when your buying items its like hes imagining you in them! I dont think its right to be honest, what kind of man wants to work in a underwear shop anyways!!

ooo, can you imagine the conversation between a male sales clerk and a guy picking out lingere for his wife.

clerk: "Ah, so what do you think she wants?"

husband: "Um, well she says that she needs a new bra, what about that one with the leather and buckles"

clerk: "Good choice sir, may I also recommend this loverly feathered one with the light up nipples"

husband: "Hey! That's pretty cool, she'll love it!"

clerk: "Great, so what size is she?"

Husband gestures vaguley at chest.

clerk: "Ok, so she's a triple D, I'll wrap these for you."

Ducky preventing men from entering lingerie stores may come next ...

How about hiring both men and women and if a lady needs help she asks a woman?

Yeah exactly! Many women actually love receiving lingerie as gifts from their husbands / boy friends! So long as you ban a salesperson from lingerie shop its fine, but if you're talking of banning men from entering a lingerie shop, thats really not right.

As far as tailoring shops are concerned, I haven't been to many in Qatar, but my from what I understand majority of tailoring shops actually employee men as tailors here in Qatar. Infact, many Qatari women visit these shops for getting their dresses stitched. So thats one wish gonna take some time to get fulfilled.

I guess they will just have to stick to the shoe stores. :P

well first, what man in Qatar will admit he's gay? Illegal, illegal, illegal!

however, if a man COULD admit he was gay, can you see it now? all the men would admit they're gay so they could work in lingeie.

hey, that rhymes!

i'm highly in favor of getting women tailors. one male tailor actually felt me up....ewwwwww!

it sounds like the ban is on employing men, not preventing men from entering a lingerie store.

What about guys going to buy lingerie for their wives or girlfriends?? I mean, no male salespeople sure, what guy is really going to advise me on which thong to buy (unless of course they are gay, then I trust their opinion completely). But to ban male shoppers is a little silly.

Well your right man. I'm a guy never ever thought of it. but it is absolutely right. But Man should be certainly banned in lingerie shops. Its nothing to do with thinking small or somethin like that. its just that the ladies fell more comfortable.
