Moving from Edmonton - International Movers
By Canadian786 •
I am planning to move to Doha in the middle of January. Can anyone in the forum have experience with International movers, moving from edmonton/Calgary to Doha. Below are the questions:
1. Approximate cost of shipping 2 bed-room apartment stuff or a 3 bed room House
2. Good & bad experience with movers - any recommendation
3. Any custome related issues in Doha, I shall be aware of
4. Time it usually took between shipment and arrival
Thanks,
I'm still in temporary accomodation but I've looked at apartments and villas. Right now the market is very high. Apartments are going for about 10,000 riyals and Villas for at least 14,000 riyals (and of course higher for both). Its hard to tell what will happen. a Riyal is worth about 1/3 of a Cdn $.
Apartment sizes are comparable to Canada. Villas tend to be a little smaller than our houses and with no basements.
Well, we only rented one apartment in Doha for around 8 months, then we moved into company compound. We were paying 10,000 riyal. That equals around 3,333 Canadian! It was a three bedroom totally furnished apartment. It was very large though, probably somewhere around 2,000 sq.feet. Hope this helps!

Thanks Charlene & Don for your comments. I decided to sell every thing and just bring the suitcases with me. Can you guys please let me know, what's the rent of a 2 or 3 bed-room unfurnished/furnished apartment in Doha. Also size and conditions with reference to rental accomodation here in Alberta
Thanks
I came from Sherwood Park to Doha in September and really didn't move anything. The cost of moving furniture versus replacement costs are just silly.
I didn't ship anything this time around when leaving Lacombe Alberta. However, I have done so in the past several times. The company always made the arrangments though. We did look into it this time and decided the cost just wasn't worth it! I think it was something like 10,000 Canadain for a container.
When we lived in Kuwait it took about 10 weeks for the shipment to get there. And when it was finally delived to our house, customs had opened every box and there were foot prints all over everything! However, everything made it is one piece.
This time around we decided just to take extra suitcases and pay the differance with the airlines. We checked into other options but this one was actually the cheapest. My husband is no longer with the compay that would send shipments for us, so we found this to be the best way.
In the end we were glad that we didn't do a shipment. Anything that you want for the most part you can find in Doha. However, my only regret is that we do not have our own bed here. Finding a quality mattress in Doha has poven to be a real challange...
Good luck to you!
